Today we look at another addition to the Fire
King family in Fire King Avatar Yaksha. This is a
Level 4, Fire attributed, Beast-Warrior Monster,
with 1800 attack and 200 defense. If a face-up Fire
King Monster you control is destroyed by a card
effect, save the Damage Step, you can Special Summon
this card from your Hand. If this card is destroyed
and sent to the Graveyard, you can select and
destroy a card in your Hand, or that you control on
the Field. You can only use the effect once per
turn. He can Special Summon from the Hand easily
enough, has a good attack, and adds speed and combo
potential to the Deck.

Alright today we are reviewing #4 on our Judgment
of Light Countdown. It’s a Fire King support
card that has finally been imported from the OCG.
Here it is!
Fire King Avatar Yaksha
Attribute: Fire
Types: Beast-Warrior/Effect
Level 4
If a face-up "Fire King" monster you control is
destroyed by a card effect (except during the Damage
Step): You can Special Summon this card from your
hand. If this card is destroyed and sent to the
Graveyard: You can destroy 1 card in your hand or
that you control. You can only use this effect of
"Fire King Avatar Yaksha" once per turn.
ATK/1800
DEF/200
So this card has a lot going for it. It can be
searched by Fire Formation-Tenki and has decent
stats. This card’s defense points may look
weak at first but at least it’s a target for
Rekindling. The main reason this card is so
good is that it finally gives Fire Kings the boost
they need to become a competitive deck. This
card allows you to destroy your Fire King monsters
in your hand or on the field when this card is
destroyed. This can help trigger your Fire
King effects and also get rid of dead any Fire King
High Avatar Garunix in your hand. This card is
also searchable by cards like Flamvell Firedog and
Onslaught of the Fire Kings. Overall this card is
great. The only problem with this monster is
that you can only use the effect of this card once
per turn but that isn’t too much of a problem.
You only need to use it once to get everything in
this deck rolling.

Fire King Avatar Yaksha
FIRE/ Beast-Warrior/Effect/ Level4/1800/200
If a face-up "Fire King" monster you control is
destroyed by a card effect (except during the Damage
Step): You can Special Summon this card from your
hand. If this card is destroyed and sent to the
Graveyard: You can destroy 1 card in your hand or
that you control. You can only use this effect of
"Fire King Avatar Yaksha" once per turn.
Continuing our way through the Top 10 cards of
Judgement of the Light is at number 4 Fire King
Avatar Yaksha. Stats wish he has the same as his
teammate Fire King Avatar Barong and he has the same
first effect. This second effect is very
interesting, when this card is destroyed, you can
destroy 1 card that you control or that is in your
hand. That’s right; he actually destroys cards in
your hand, which should lead to a lot of ruling
arguments.
This effect though is very unique and very good,
especially if you are stuck with Fire King High
Avatar Garunix. Of course he works well with the
other Fire Kings as well. His stats are decent, 1800
ATK is good and generally 200 DEF would be bad, but
thanks to Flamvells, it seems to be the ‘in’ thing
with FIRE monsters.
Overall, a very good support card for Fire Kings and
they need all the support they can get.

We’re now down to #4 of our Top 10 Judgment of
the Light Countdown. Today’s card is Fire King
Avatar Yaksha:
Level 4
FIRE
Beast-Warrior / Effect
1800 ATK / 200 DEF
If a face-up "Fire King" monster you control is
destroyed by a card effect (except during the Damage
Step): You can Special Summon this card from your
hand. If this card is destroyed and sent to the
Graveyard: You can destroy 1 card in your hand or
that you control. You can only use this effect of
"Fire King Avatar Yaksha" once per turn.
Fire King Decks have been under the radar since
release, mainly due to other things like Dragon
Rulers, Prophecy, Mermail, and the similarly-named
Fire Fist running around. They’re a solid Deck
regardless, and Yaksha is great support for them.
First off, you can summon him if another Fire King
you control is destroyed by card effect (a trait
that several Fire Kings share if my memory serves
correctly). Upon his destruction (note that it can
be in any way, by battle or card effect, and can be
caused by either player), he can destroy another
card in your hand or on your side of the field.
This is great for setting off any other Fire Kings
in your hand or field. One perk I can definitely see
in this is setting off a Fire King High Avatar
Garunix that’s sitting in your hand.
He’s also got 200 ATK, so Rekindling abuse is a
given. Being a FIRE Beast-Warrior means he’s a
target for our good friend Wolfbark from Friday.
All in all a very solid card, and definitely one
Fire King is glad to have.

Advanced: 4/5
Art: 5/5 (He definitely among the coolest looking
Fire Kings)

I totally messed up on my Angel of Zera article
because I thought he got 300 ATK for the banished
cards. Still, it'll still give him considerable ATK.
Anyone who got the Onslaught of the Fire Kings
Structure Deck can tell you about the Fire King
monsters: It introduced the first three Fire King
monsters and their two Spells. Lord of the Tachyon
Galaxy also introduced a baby version of the Fire
King High Avatar, and now we have this. The Fire
King Avatars have an effect that allows them to
summon themselves out of the hand whenever a Fire
King gets destroyed by an effect (but two of them
can't have it happen in Damage Step). This effect is
most useful to allow Fire Kings to swarm before
building up their most destructive plays by
constantly recycling Fire King High Avatar Garunix
and Sacred Phoenix of the Nephthys. Most of them
also have compatibility with important Fire support.
For Yaksha, this includes Flamvell Counter, Flamvell
Firedog, Rekindling, Coach Soldier Wolfbark, and
Fire Formation - Tenki.
Yaksha, of course, has the general Fire King Avatar
effect I just described. The second effect is
important as it plays off it. All Fire Kings have
effects that are tripped when they are destroyed,
and Yaksha is flexible; not only can he not miss the
timing, he allows you to decide whether you want to
destroy a card on your field. Most importantly, you
have the decision to destroy a card in your hand,
and all Fire Kings have a secondary effect that is
activated wherever they get destroyed. The most
popular play is to use Fire King Avatar Barong to
get Fire King High Avatar Garunix to the hand; use
Yaksha to destroy Garunix to constantly destroy
monsters.
Fire Kings are not the only monsters to get effects
when destroyed in the hand. Sacred Phoenix of the
Nephthys is a Fire Winged-Beast with effects similar
to Fire Kings, and thus is always used alongside
them. Other Decks not related to Fire Fists can use
Yaksha to activate similar effects, such as Decks
with Necro Fleur and Yubel. There is also Earthbound
Immortal Ccarayhua, but it's usually not worth your
time when you have the Garunix/Phoenix cycle going.
Yaksha is significant in this manner as there is no
other card that lets you actually destroy your own
hand. Any card that gets an effect when destroyed in
hand will also get it if destroyed on field, so
Yaksha's ability to do both is flexible. Granted,
you can do some combos with Traps that activate
effects only if destroyed, but Yaksha isn't worth it
to just combo with those Traps.
Other significant cards that will get effects if
Yaksha destroys them in hand:
All Maldoche monsters
Archfiend Empress
Babycerasaurus
Box of Friends
Brushfire Knight
Doomsday Horror
Geartown
Fencing Fire Ferret
Hazy Flame Cerebus
Kaiser Glider
Light and Darkness Dragon
Water Dragon
Trad: 3/5 (there are more groundbreaking things but
it might work)
Adv: 4.5/5
Aesthetics: 4/5 There is an isolated volcano in the
southern seas that the cryptids known as Fire Kings
protect as their sanctuary. They are born from the
volcano, and cloak themselves in flames to
disintegrate any that threaten their safety.
Afterwards, they emerge from the fires, reincarnated
with a new body. These abilities were displayed when
the Atlanteans warred upon the volcano, and when the
Fire Kings held them off, the Atlanteans appealed to
the Mermails for reinforcements. The yaksha is a
kind of Indian fairy, in Hinduism, Jainism, and
Buddhism. They are the guardians of natural
treasures in the trees and mountains. Although
ordinarily peaceful, there is a kind of yaksha that
is rather violent, which are formed by a vengeful
spirit known as a bhoot. You know, when I first saw
Yaksha's art, I always thought it looked like a man
tilting a wide-brimmed hat and twirling a flaming
staff, but with a closer look, it's a witch doctor
that looks like he has the Monkey King's weapon and
he's doing some karate kick. There's also another
yaksha monster, a Water Fairy Spirit, named Yaksha.
Philosophy Corner: A good friend of mine just got
her very first boyfriend, and a lot of us [her
friends] are all giddy because we all "saw it
coming." When one of my girl friends becomes
somebody's girlfriend, I think the people that get
excited most of all are her friends, rather than
herself. Cheers to you, sister.
