Paladin

Runner-up for best card of the year belongs to...Mecha Phantom Beast Drassosack. a Rank 7, Wind attributed XYZ Monster, with 2600 attack and 2200 defense, who is XYZ Summoned with two Level 7 Monsters. Once a turn you can detach an XYZ Material from this card to Special Summon two Mecha Phantom Beast Tokens Machine, Wind, Level 3 with 0 attack and defense.

The Mecha Deck runs off Tokens for various reasons. For combos, protection, sacrifices, just to name a few reasons. The ability to produce two in a turn from one Monster is excellent. Speaking of Tokens, while you control at least one, this Monster cannot be destroyed by Battle OR card effects.

If ridiculous protection weren't enough by tributing a Mecha Phantom Beast Monster, you can target one card on the Field and destroy it. Drassosack can't attack if you use that effect, so destroy something bigger with it. This is the heart and soul of the Mecha Phantom Beast Deck. Get him out soon, keep your Tokens, he can win you games.

Happy New year! At number 2 of Pojo's Top 10 cards of 2013 is Mecha Phantom Beast Dracossack.

Mecha Phantom Beast Dracossack is a Rank 7 Machine. with 2600 ATK and 2200 DEF which are solid stats. Mecha Phantom Beast Dracossack has three effects which nicely roll into one another. First by detaching 1 material he can special summon two Mecha Phantom Beast Tokens, two monsters for 1 material is very good. But now that he has Tokens, he can't be destroyed by any means until the tokens are removed. But he can use 1 of those tokens to destroy a card on the field and still have 1 left to protect him. While he maybe a Rank 7 he is easy to get out, cards like Harpie Channeler and the Dragon Rulers can help with that.

Overall a great card with no stupid conditions to ruin it, just a solid machine with three simple and effective effects, and that is what I like to see in my cards.

Baneful

Mecha Phantom Beast Dracossack

The effectiveness of this card will vary on the format and how many accessible LV8 monsters there are to summon this big guy. When Dragon Rulers were at their peak, Dracossack saw lots of play. But now, with the recent limitings and bannings, it's a bit harder (but still far from impossible) to summon.

With strong stats, a protection buff, creation of tokens to use for whatever you wish, and quick easy removal, Dracossack is well worth his cost (2 LV8 monsters) to summon. Whether they take a little bit of work to attain or (especially) if you can bring him out with ease. But still, how this card will be assessed throughout time will primarily be based on how easy it is to summon it.

Advanced: 4/5 (Very Good)

Traditional: 2/5 (Okay)

Terrorking

Hello, my dear readers. I am Terrorking, known far and wide with lofty titles such as the guru of greatness, the marquis of marvelous, the sultan of superb et cetera et cetera. It is with these reviews that I shall claim yet another epithet, the conquering king of card reviews. Well then, now that the introduction is over, let us begin our journey together on the flying battleship that thinks it's a dragon, Mecha Phantom Beast Dracossack.

It shouldn't come as a surprise that this is one of the best cards of 2013, and if it does you will need to pay very close attention (I mean, have you looked at any decklist throughout the year?). The deck that makes the best use of this card is the Dragon Ruler deck, with its assortment of Level 7 Dragons that come out from the hand and graveyard for little to no cost (it's actually no cost). But even this mighty stallion of a deck has a fault: it can't keep up field presence, largely due to the dragons retreating to the hand. That's where Dracossack comes in: you can now overlay your two Dragon Rulers and summon this behemoth. Here's the beautiful part, you get to detach a Dragon Ruler (which means you can use it later or immediately since they can summon themselves from the Graveyard) to create two tokens. Now if merely creating two tokens was all Dracossack did, the card would still be pretty good, since a +1 cannot be a bad thing, but Dracossack goes above and beyond the call of duty by making itself immune to destruction while you control these tokens. Now THAT would be enough to make any card glorious, but Dracossack goes above and beyond the above and beyond the call of duty by tributing one of the tokens to destroy a card on the field. The sheer utility this card has is near-absurd, and has more combos that kill than all of your local burger joints put together. Let's look at the main, shall we?

Summon Dracossack ---> Make your tokens ---> Tribute them to summon Light and Darkness Dragon (thus locking down your opponent) or Fog King (if you're in that pesky Dragon Ruler mirror match) OR tribute the tokens and Dracossack to summon MOISTURE CREA- errr, I mean Obelisk the Tormentor. Yes, these tokens open the door to making any Tribute monster playable. And often times, all that stops them from being so is the fact that they're, well, tribute monsters.

And that's just taking into account the Dragon Ruler deck. With Divine Wind of Mist Valley up and a few Harpie Dancers, you'll be making Dracossack by overlaying your Ancient Fairy Dragons, and then you can make your tokens and Synchro into yet another Ancient Fairy Dragon by summoning Effect Veiler, or more practically for that deck, a level 9 or 10 Synchro monsters. In Dracossack's own archetype, Mecha Phantom Beasts, he creates valuable tokens to fuel the weaker guys' effects and keep them alive through your opponent's turn.

The best way to deal with Dracossack is to stop him from being summoned at all. If you cannot, there's always the very trusty Effect Veiler, Breakthrough Skill and Fiendish Chains. Let them guide and protect you.

But here's the real reason to use Dracossack: it's a dragon plane. You can be riding the skies like your name is Seto Kaiba. Look at you, you stylin' devil.

Tradition: 2 (Level 8 is king here. And by "Level 8" I mean Chaos Emperor Dragon)
Advanced: 4.5, when being used in Dragon Rulers. 3.5, everywhere else
