We continue with the Monarch theme today with the support card “Return of the Monarchs”. With Return, decks that rely on tribute summons get a powerful search engine. This type of deck will not be able to use a side deck so the ability to tribute summon has to be able to gain you a decisive advantage.
 
The best deck that tributes and gives you an advantage is a Monarch deck as all of the Monarchs meet the attack and defense requirements and gain an advantage when tribute summoned. Return of the Monarchs is not limited to searching out Monarchs despite the name. You can also search for cards like Dark Armed Dragon, Cranium Fish, Lightray Diabolos, or Gaia Plate the Earth Giant to name some of the better ones. You could also use it with Monarchs and Evigishki Gustkraken in a Monarch/Fusion deck.
 
Return of the Monarchs has one drawback. You can not summon from your extra deck. Tribute monster has one other support card that has this same effect, “March of the Monarchs, so playing Return in a tribute summon deck with March basically means that you are not playing with an extra deck. There is one other card that we can play with these two support cards with the same restriction, “Seal of Orichalcos” that will boost our 2400 attack monsters into a more dominant 2900 attack monster.
 
If you can get all three of the support cards above on the field and keep them there along with being able to tribute summon once per turn, you may have a fighting chance. That is too many cards and too slow a process to be a viable option in today’s game. Xyz and Synchro monsters are just too strong for decks that do not run them. Add that to the fact that Return of the Monarchs is dependant on tribute summoning and you have a deck that is only good for recreational use.

Today we have a card I mentioned yesterday: Return of The Monarchs. A continuous spell card, “You cannot Special Summon monsters from the Extra Deck. When you Tribute Summon a monster: You can activate 1 of these effects;● Add, from your Deck to your hand, 1 monster with 2400 ATK and 1000 DEF with a different name from that Tribute Summoned monster.● Add, from your Deck to your hand, 1 monster with 2800 ATK and 1000 DEF with a different name from that Tribute Summoned monster.The Tribute Summoned monster must be face-up on the field to activate and to resolve this effect. You can only activate this effect of "Return of The Monarchs" once per turn.".
 
This card is made for a Monarch deck. After you Tribute Summon a monster, you can activate one of the effects, you don't have to. Adding a monster is always a plus, it replenishes your hand and can set up plays depending on the strategy of the deck. In this case, you're going to be reloading your Monarchs. Bring a monster with 2400ATK/1000DEF, or a monster with 2800ATK/1000DEF to your hand that has a different name than the monster you just summoned. Being able to summon Caius, get his effect, then search out Dark Armed Dragon and possibly hit for 5200 damage is a pretty good turn. If you run Illusory Snatcher, you can search him out with this card, then next turn if you tribute again  you can elect to special summon him rather than activate "Return of The Monarchs". He will become a copy of your tributed monster and allow you to have an XYZ possibility if "Return of The Monarchs" leaves the field.
 
"You cannot Special Summon monsters from the Extra Deck" isn't the best way to start out any card. XYZ and Synchro Summoning is a mainstay in the game. Even in a Monarch deck you will be using your extra deck, and even if you don't always use your extra deck, you still want the ability to use it if the need arises. Only being able to activate this cards effect once per turn hurts it, but it also prevents abuse of the card if someone were to tribute summon several times in one turn somehow. What hurts this card the most is that you cannot search out the monster you just summoned. If you tribute Caius, you can't get another Caius. I suppose you could just loop Caius to Raiza over and over, or search a monarch to help you next turn depending on the situation you are in, but who wouldn't want to summon Caius and get another Caius?
