#7 is very good theme support
for an older theme, in Harpie Channeler. I don't see Harpies becoming Tier 1, but this certainly helps the
Deck in more ways than one. She has the same basic
unremarkable stats as Harpie Lady (though Icarus
Attack can come into play being Winged Beast) I'll
point out.
She allows you to Special Summon a Harpie Monster from your Deck
once per turn in face-up Defense position. Other
than herself, of course. Said effect can also only
be used once per turn. While you control a Dragon
type Monster, this cards Level becomes 7.
Harpie's Pet Dragon does come to mind, but maybe you could make a
Dragon Harpie hybrid instead. There is a Harpie's
Pet Dragon variant XYZ in the set this card came in
(whose name escapes me) as well, although only Rank
4 if I recall. Also this card is treated as Harpie
Lady while on the Field or in the Graveyard. That's
worth noting, not that you should play any of the
Harpie variants aside from Harpie Queen or this
anyway.

Harpie Channeler
Wind/Winged Beast/Effect/Level4/1400/1300
You can discard 1 "Harpie" card; Special Summon 1 "Harpie"
monster from your Deck in face-up Defense Position,
except "Harpie Channeler". You can only use this
effect of "Harpie Channeler" once per turn. While
you control a Dragon-Type monster, this card's Level

At number 7 of Pojo's Top ten cards of 2013 is
Harpie Channeler, that's right 2013 gave us new
Harpie cards, now if only Konami would do more to
support the forgotten archetypes, instead of
chucking out one shot archetypes all the time.
Anyway Harpie Channeler has two effects. The first
allows you to discard a Harpie card to special
summon a Harpie in DEF mode from your deck. Well
since Harpies love special summoning this is a great
effect, especially as this will alow you to summon
most Rank 4 Xyz monsters that need two material. But
that's not all, if there is a Dragon on the field
(say Harpie's Pet Dragon) then this becomes a level
7 monster, allowing you to Xyz summon most Rank 7
Xyz monsters.
Overall a great addition to Harpie decks, not
much on it's own but Hapries like to flock together

Harpie Channeler
Howdy there, today's card is Harpie Channeler,
the backbone of the Harpie's Monster Line up. Who
would have thought 2013 Harpies could be good, a
card released in 2002. Now why can't we see them
make Dark Magician competitive.
Traditional: 3/5 (Big Eye steal opponents CED,
hilarious?)
Advanced: 5/5 (I think if they got any more support
the deck would be under Konami's watch more then it
currently is)
Art: 2/5 The censoring of the Harpies ruins their
Succubus diva-esque appearance

Welcome back to our short Christmas week
everyone. Today we look at #7 on our list, that
being one of the newest cards in a very old
archetype, Harpie Channeler.
There's not really much to this card, but it can
be devastating. First off, it's a Harpie Lady while
on the field or in the graveyard, so it works with
Hysteric Party, Hunting Ground, and Elegant Egotist.
That's lovely, those are all excellent cards. The
main attraction though is its summoning effect. For
the measly price of a Harpie card in the hand, you
get to summon any Harpie monster from the deck. ANY,
folks. If you choose to get the one Harpie card
that's level 7 (the dragon) it even does you the
favor of becoming level 7. That gives you access to
the almighty battery of rank 7 XYZs on top of the
incredibly annoying rank 4 monsters this deck can
use.
So basically, it's another card that opens up a
fast array of options to you. Need a big beater
that's hard to stop? Make Dracossack. Want to steal
something annoying like an opposing Dracossack,
maybe a Lead Yoke, whatever? Make Big Eye. Like to
live dangerously? Throw Tempest into the mix and
make Number 7: Lucky Straight. Or, if you want to go
the rank 4 route, Harpies have access to Lightning
Chidori and Ice Beast Zerofyne, both of which can
have a negative impact on your opponent's field in
their own unique ways. With Divine Wind of Mist
Valley on your field, you can go one step further
with summoning a Dancer, bouncing it, then summoning
twice off those effects and making the Phantasmal
Pet Dragon.
In short, this is a crucial piece of support that
Harpies needed to ever be considered playable. Throw
in the additional support they got from Hysteric
Sign and Harpie Dancer, and you have a really fun
deck to play. If you play Harpies, you play three of
this card.

Hello Pojo Fans,
First, here's to hoping everyone will have a very
Merry Christmas. We start back up the countdown with
the #7 pick: Harpie Channeler. This little beauty
was the catalyst in a resurgence of the Harpie
themed deck. Though the deck hype has cooled, it
could see a comeback. Channeler is a level 4 Winged
Beast, 1400ATK/1300DEF Wind monster. You can discard
1 "Harpie" card; Special Summon 1 "Harpie" monster
from your Deck in face-up Defense Position, except "Harpie
Channeler". You can only use this effect of "Harpie
Channeler" once per turn. While you control a
Dragon-Type monster, this card's Level becomes 7.
This card's name becomes "Harpie Lady" while it is
on the field or in the Graveyard.
Channeler is the searching Harpie for the deck.
Discard a Harpie you don't need at the moment to
special summon one that you do from the deck in
face-up defense that isn't Channeler, a nice 1 for
1. While a dragon is on your side of the field,
Channeler is considered a level 7. Discard a Harpie
to special out Harpies Pet Dragon and you have an
instant Big Eye or Dracossack. Channeler can be
searched by Flying Kamikiri #1 from the Deck, which
could help to get it to the field quicker. Harpie
Channeler is the combo maker for the deck.
Discarding a Harpie will fuel Hysteric Party, set up
an Icarus Attack play, or with Elegant Egotist in
your hand you could have three Harpies on the field
to use Harpie Lady Phoenix Formation the next turn.
Having to discard a Harpie and not any card or a
monster limits the playability of the card, as you
would like to get the most out of your Harpies. Its
stats (like most Harpie monsters) aren't high enough
to deal with what is out there, but other cards can
help power it out. The special summoned “Harpie” is
summoned in face-up defense, so no attacking with it
unless it's used as synchro or Xyz material. You can
only use the effect of Channeler once unless you Xyz
or synchro with her and bring her back. The card is
good, and the deck needed someone like her, but she
could've been better.
Traditional- 3/5
Advanced- 3.5/5
Art-4.5/5- Though edited, the card still has some
good artwork.
Until Next Time,

Harpie's Channeler
Harpies went from barely playable to high-tier
with just this card. It's not one of the ways you
can run Harpies; it's the only way you can run them
if you want to win games. So, needless to say, all
Harpie decks must use 3 (and you wouldn't want to
use it outside of a Harpie deck).
There is a lot going for it. It's really
accessible and easy to summon. It triggers the
effect of Harpie's Hunting Ground, Hysteric Party
and all other cards that benefit from Harpie Lady.
It makes the pitifully bad Harpie's Pet Dragon
actually useful, and the discard (compensated for by
the summoning ability) can give you graveyard power.
It can XYZ both into Rank-4 and into Rank-7.
In Traditional Format, however, it's a different
story. Control decks (or anything that's not a
lockdown, FTK or OTK) just don't do well.
Advanced: 5/5 (Great)
Traditional: 3/5 (Good)
(Ratings are in context of a Harpie deck)
