An Elemental Dragon hey? Tidal, Dragon Ruler of Waterfalls is the
card in question for today on our countdown. We have
a Level 7, Water attributed, Dragon Monster with
2600 attack (not bad) and 2000 defense. This Dragon
boasts a few different abilities.
First, it can be Special Summoned from your Hand or Graveyard by
removing two Water and/or Dragon type Monsters from
your Hand and/or Graveyard from play. That's some
versatility for a Special Summon, only increasing
this cards power. It sure beats tributing two
Monsters for it.
During your opponent's End Phase, if this card was Special
Summoned, it returns to the Hand. That sucks that
it's if Special Summoned period, not just via its
own effect. You can also discard this card and one
Water Monster from your Hand to the Graveyard to
send a Monster from your Deck to your Graveyard.
Ironically this card is a combo card for a lot of Decks, although
not necessarily Dragon. It plays with Atlantean and
Mermail fairly well being Water, but the Water
actually hurts its play in Dragons in my opinion. If
this card is removed from play, you can add a Water
Dragon type Monster from your Deck to your Hand. A
second one of these perhaps? You can only use the
effect of this card once per turn, but that's just
fine, especially if you use the latter effect to
cycle another one to your Hand, or sent one to the
Graveyard via this other effect as well.

Happy Friday everyone, hope you had a good
holiday. We wrap up the week with our #5 card on the
top 10 list, Tidal, Dragon Ruler of Waterfalls.
Chances are if you've played the game in the last
six months, you've seen this card, whether it be in
Mermails, or in the actual E-Dragon deck. It gained
immense popularity as soon as it hit the streets,
and has continued to do so right up until its
upcoming restriction to one on January 1st.
So what makes this card (and the other dragons)
so broken? It's the fact that they never go away. If
you banish them the replace themselves. You can use
this and Redox to set up your grave for future
plays, or just stock it with fodder to summon your
other dragons. With 12 available in the deck and few
ways to stop it, it's very hard to stop the constant
stream of Rank 7 XYZ monsters that the E-Dragon deck
can generate. If you haven't sided the few key cards
that shut this deck down AND they can't Blaster
whatever defense you came up with, you're gonna have
a bad time.
Personally though, I'm very excited to see the
deck go away on January 1st, as I'm sure many other
players are. If you thought Spellbooks were an
auto-pilot deck, then E-Dragons were the textbook
definition of the term. And that stems from the vast
multitude of effects this Dragon and his compatriots
possess. They are all some of the greatest cards
printed in the past few years, and inside of the
various elemental decks they can go in, they work
wonders, but put them all in one, and it's
unrivaled. This card's unique effect is the Foolish
Burial effect, which is great, but I'm not sure it's
any more outstanding than Redox or Tempest. Almost
situational really, though in something like
Mermails it could be used well.
There's hardly anything to say about this card
that hasn't already been said. It and it's brethren
are nasty monsters and have dominated the metagame
for the past six months. It's a great card, but it's
time for change.

Hello Pojo Fans,
The first of the Dragon Rulers to make it on the
list, Tidal, Dragon Ruler of Waterfalls was hit
twice by the ban list, once in baby form as Stream,
then again coming up in the new year. With
2600ATK/2000DEF, this Water Dragon-type has a lot of
effects. If this card is in your hand or Graveyard:
You can banish a total of 2 WATER and/or Dragon-Type
monsters from your hand and/or Graveyard, except
this card; Special Summon this card. During your
opponent's End Phase, if this card was Special
Summoned: Return it to the hand. You can discard
this card and 1 WATER monster to the Graveyard; send
1 monster from your Deck to the Graveyard. If this
card is banished: You can add 1 WATER Dragon-Type
monster from your Deck to your hand. You can only
use 1 "Tidal, Dragon Ruler of Waterfalls" effect per
turn, and only once that turn.
This card was part of the almost unstoppable
Dragon Ruler deck that dominated the format since
its arrival. Even after the banning of their baby
forms, Dragon Rulers still stood atop the format
(much like a true ruler, not backing down against
attempts to dethrone them). Tidal can be Special
Summoned by removing a combination of two Water or
Dragon monsters from your hand or Graveyard.
Removing from the grave is the more likely choice as
you don't want to lose hand advantage. Tidal will
replace itself when it is removed, netting you a 1
for 1 tradeoff. Discarding this card and a Water
monster to the grave will allow you to send a
monster from your Deck to the Graveyard, setting up
plays or activating the effect of the monster sent
to the Graveyard if he has such an effect (Mermails).
If Tidal is banished during the Damage Step, its
effect can still be activated to add a Water,
Dragon-type to your hand.
Tidal returning to the hand during your opponents
turn if it was Special Summoned can leave you open
or needing to find another way to bring it out.
Though you can avoid this downside by Normal
Summoning it, two monsters can be costly field
presence. Though its effect to send a monster to the
Graveyard is useful, Foolish Burial does the same
thing and you don't need another Water monster to do
it. With Dragon Rulers getting hit again, Mermails
will still run this guy and continue to plus off him
and make rank 7's.
Traditional-2.5/5
Advanced-3.5/5- Mermails love this card as much as
Dragons do, if not more

Tidal, Dragon Ruler of Waterfalls
Compared to other Dragon Rulers, with 2600 ATK,
it's statistically better than all but Blaster. It's
effect, however, is arguably the weakest of the
bunch as it's the only one that doesn't net you a
card or create a loss for the opponent. Sending a
monster from your deck to the graveyard could setup
some nice combos though, even if it's not a
sufficiently good effect by itself.
Add it's ease of summon as well as it's searching
effect upon banishment into the mix, and you get a
pretty well-rounded card that's good for both
Dragons and WATER decks. Not the best Dragon Ruler,
but I'd still take one of the weaker Dragon Rulers
over most WATER/Dragon monsters.
