So we're trying to make Monarchs playable again hmm?
Monarchs, as everyone should know, we're about
quick advantage, +1 (or more) be it destroying a
Monster, a Magic or Trap(s), discarding from the
Hand for Damage, etc. Granmarg the Mega Monarch is
not a Monarch of the traditional manner. Anyway,
I've not seen a Monarch played in a long time. The
new Elemental Lords saw some play upon release, and
worked sort of in a strange Monarch fashion, but
obviously were a different thing. This particular
Monarch has 2800 attack as opposed to the 2400 we're
familiar with, but still the 1000 defense, and is
Level 8, as opposed to 6. Earth and Rock are
actually more supported than people tend to realize
(namely on the Rock end). This guy isn't as bad as
he may initially appear, but it's hard to justify
the resources, and he's not very splashable. You
can Tribute him or one instead of two Tributes IF
the Tribute is a Monster that was Tributed all
ready, so doing so doesn't save you much resource
there. He can break even advantage wise by
targeting and destroying up to two set cards on the
Field. The fact is, the 2800 attack is nice, but
there's quicker, easier, and less costly ways to
destroy two cards (and more) than doing this. If an
Earth Monster is Tributed for this card, Draw one
card, as well. Not enough to sell me...

This week we will be reviewing cards from Shadow
Specters. We start off with cards from the Monarch
theme. Granmarg the Mega Monarch is the souped up
modal of its predecessor – Granmarg the Rock
Monarch. In fact, it is a good compliment to the
Rock Monarch as Rock is a Rock, so if you can
tribute summon both monsters, you can potentially
destroy up to three face-down cards on the field.
Granmarg the Mega Monarch brings us to 11 Monarchs
currently. Unfortunately, only the Rock Monarch is
an Earth so gaining the effect to destroy two
face-down cards is going to be hard in a Monarch
deck and a Monarch deck is about the only deck you
will see playing the Mega Monarch. If a card you
target with Granmarg is chained then it will not be
destroyed. Even if you do not gain that effect, you
will still get a monster with 2800 attack and get to
draw a card, so that’s not too bad.
If you are going to be playing Granmarg the Mega
Monarch with the other Monarchs, you will also want
to be playing cards like Return of the Monarchs,
March of the Monarchs, and Double Summon. Even with
those cards to protect your Monarchs and give you
searching ability, I still do not see Monarchs
challenging the top decks until the format slows
down. Monarchs are simply not explosive enough. If
you do run them, I would suggest running only one
Mega Monarch as the two tribute requirement is a bit
too pricy to be consistent.

Welcome back from the weekend folks. Today's
card is a revival of the old Monarch archetype,
Granmarg the Mega Monarch.
Earth/Rock/ATK 2800/DEF 1000
You can Tribute Summon this card by Tributing 1
Tribute Summoned monster. When this card is Tribute
Summoned: Target up to 2 Set cards on the field;
destroy those targets. If this card was Tributed
Summoned by Tributing an EARTH monster, add this
additional effect.
● Also, draw 1 card after that.
Gonna make this brief, because I really don't like
this card. First off, no self-respecting Monarch
player uses Granmarg, muchless this one. They stick
to Raiza and Caius, with Mobius being a third
choice. Speaking of Mobius, his effect destroys two
backrow, which is similar to this effect, but he
only takes one tribute without tributing off a
different monarch.
Then there's the second problem; this is meant to
work with the new support card, Return of the
Monarchs. However, using that card prevents you
from using the usual Frog engine that Monarchs adore
so much. Now you have to find a reliable
alternative to even utilize the new Monarch support.
You could use a discard and summon engine maybe,
like Fabled or Dark world, but is it worth the
effort? Well no, because this monster itself isn't
worth the trouble. Maybe the mega Mobius we get
next set, but not this.
Long story short, I don't like it, it's not
reliable, and it's overshadowed by other Monarchs
that have been around for years. Skip it folks.

Hello Pojo Fans,
Today we're going to take a look at the first of the
“Mega Monarchs”. Granmarg the Mega Monarch is a
rock-type, level 8 2800ATK/1000DEF monster. It's
effect revolves around tribute summoning it. “You
can Tribute Summon this card by Tributing 1 Tribute
Summoned monster. When this card is Tribute
Summoned: Target up to 2 Set cards on the field;
destroy those targets. If this card was Tributed
Summoned by Tributing an EARTH monster, add this
additional effect.● Also, draw 1 card after that.”
Granmarg version two belongs in a deck that does a
lot of tribute summoning. It can be searched by
“Return of The Monarch” (tomorrow's CoTD), you can
use Trade-In with it, which is a plus, but other
than that this card cannot be searched. 2800ATK for
a possible one tribute is pretty good, 1000DEF isn't
good, but plenty of strong monsters have low
defense. Tribute Summon a Monarch by tributing
Treeborn Frog, resolve the effect of the Monarch,
then play Double Summon and bring out Granmarg the
Mega Monarch. Another play would be instead of a
Monarch, use Dark Dust Spirit to clear your
opponents field of face-up monsters, then Double
Summon and clear out their backrows with Granmarg
the Mega Monarch. Up to two set cards destroyed
instead of one is good. If you run some Earth
monsters you may get the draw one card this monster
offers. Tribute Summon this card by tributing The
Trojan Horse to get the draw and the set card(s)
destruction.
If you want to get the extra draw, you'll have to
play a fair amount of Earth monsters. Likely, an
Earth monster used as a tribute for the monster
won't have been Tribute Summoned, so you'll need two
to gain the extra draw. The set cards you can target
with the first effect can still be activated. Am I
the only one who thinks the “Mega Monarch” would be
able to prevent at least one of those cards from
activating (like
Mobius the Mega Monarch)? Granmarg the Mega
Monarch can't be searched except by Return of The
Monarch, so unless you run three, it may be hard to
find.
The next “Mega Monarchs” will be more playable than
this card. Everyone cannot wait until Caius and
Raiza. Could this be played in an Earth-based deck?
Possibly, but if you are teching a monster in an
Earth-based deck, it's likely Dark Dust Spirit or
Grandsoil the Elemental Lord.
Traditional-1/5- No reason to play it, much better
monsters than this to tribute.
Advanced-2/5- A little better, but still no reason
to play it in a deck with tribute monsters.
Art-3/5-Those rocks must've been set cards.
Until Next Time
