Monday

It's a new week, and that brings you five new reviews from Cosmo Blazer!  Opening the week is Fool of Prophecy, a Level 3 Spellcaster type Monster, of the Earth attribute, with 1600 attack and 900 defense.  Spellcaster is obviously well supported, and 1600 attack for a Level 3 isn't shabby, although being Earth, as opposed to Light or Dark, hurts you a little bit.  Now, once per turn, you can send a Spellbook Magic card from your Deck to your Graveyard  During your End Phase when you activated this effect, you can tribute this card to Special Summon a Level 5 or higher Dark attributed Spellcaster from your Deck.  So long as you have five or more Spellbook Magic cards in your Graveyard with different names.

Let's take a look at that...a choice here would be Dark Magician, of course.  In terms of advantage, you're technically breaking even.  You tribute this card, and give up a Spellbook Magic card, two cards (even if one is a Magic card as opposed to two Monsters) and that's assuming you picked a Spellcaster that required two tributes.  If you choose Level 5 or 6 it's a -1, as you gave up the two aforementioned cards.  Losing the Spellbook card isn't huge, and Fool of Prophecy does help with its own effect by dumping a Spellbook Magic card.  You don't necessarily need to use this in a Spellbook Deck, there are cards that can do this better.  I might make sure I had more than the five cards to fit this criteria though, if a card were to be removed by your opponent, than you're out two cards for nothing.

Ratings:

2.75/5 both Formats...maybe better in Traditional cause you could fetch Dark Magician of Chaos via the effect

We open our week with one of the new Prophecy cards from Cosmo Blazer: Fool of Prophecy

“Once per turn: You can send 1 "Spellbook" Spell Card from your Deck to the Graveyard. During the End Phase of the turn this card activated this effect: You can Tribute this card; Special Summon 1 Level 5 or higher DARK Spellcaster-Type monster from your Deck. You must have 5 or more "Spellbook" Spell Cards with different names in your Graveyard to activate and to resolve this effect.”

So here we have a card that looks really good on the surface, built in Foolish Burial for a spell book spell card (good), bring out a Spellcaster boss (Good). BUT you have to already have at least 5 “Spell Book” spell cards with different names in your graveyard. (Ouch?) That is where he falls flat on his face.

I suppose in a build focused around him he could be ok, but until we get the new Prophecy support spell I don’t really see many people trying to add him. As it stands, there is already little to no extra room in the main deck (Worse than Genex mermail, to the point that even side decking can be a major challenge.), and not many people I know are willing to give up continuity for the sake of a possible win more card. (A win more card: At its best when you are already, or would have won anyway.)

Once the new support spell comes out I expect to see some randomly tech’d, and even build centered on him. But for now he remains an iffy pick for a deck that is already bursting at the waist trying to stay at 40 cards.

Advanced: 2/5 (3/5 when the new support hits the TCG)
Traditional: 4/5 (I actually love this card in traditional. It is so much easier to mill cards in traditional, which is a huge boon to this card)

Today's Card of the Day Review is Fool of Prophecy, a Super Rare card from the Cosmo Blazer booster set.

This card has 1600 ATK, which is pretty weak in the general scheme of things, along with it being an EARTH-Attribute Spellcaster. It does get the benefit from all of the Spellbook as well, which is a nice gift for this card so a Spellbook of Power would make this 2600 ATK, not bad. The ATK is a bit weak so the effect needs to make up for it. Fortunately, it does.

This can help you get to its transformation, Reaper of Prophecy, in pretty quick order. The 1st effect allows you to send one Spellbook card from your deck straight to the Graveyard. Pretty simple really. If you pitch a Spellbook of Secrets, you can use a Spellbook of the Master in your hand, target said Spellbook of Secrets, and search your deck for any Spellbook you need. It's a nifty trick whenever you open up with a hand where you don't have a Spellbook of Secrets.

Despite this, you can even use this effect to dump any different-named Spellbook to the graveyard to help boost Reaper of Prophecy's effects whenever it comes out, which is a nice bonus......and another boost for this card because it would help lead to its 2nd effect.

"During the End Phase of the turn this card activated this effect: You can Tribute this card; Special Summon 1 Level 5 or higher DARK Spellcaster-Type monster from your Deck. You must have 5 or more "Spellbook" Spell Cards with different names in your Graveyard to activate and to resolve this effect."

Pretty much, if you can get 5 different Spellbooks in your Graveyard, you can trade in Fool of Prophecy directly for Reaper of Prophecy from your deck. Even sweeter, Reaper of Prophecy will get all 3 of its effects as well. Unfortunately, until you do, it does sit on the field as a vulnerable 1600 ATK monster so you want this effect to go off the turn you drop it, give or take. Good news is that Spellbook of Life does work on this so even if that were to happen, you still have access to its effects.

However, keep in mind that while Reaper would be the prime target for Fool's effects that it is not the only viable target. Dark Magician, Dark Magician Girl, Delg the Dark Monarch, Prophecy Destroyer, and many others can be summoned via this card's effects, making it a lot more flexible if the player is willing to give it some creative thinking.

All-in-all, this card is indeed pretty good, if not a bit slow. This card can easily get better as we get more DARK Spellcasters so keep a close eye on this card as time passes by. Each DARK Spellcaster we get adds to Fool of Prophecy and Reaper of Prophecy's dark arsenal.

Traditional Format: 1/5 (Too slow for such a format. May be too slow even for Reaper.)
Advanced Format: 3/5 (It's not bad at all as a 1-2 of, depending on the player preference. This card does need some good testing before you just throw it in there.)

Fool of Prophecy

Earth/Spellcaster/Effect/Level3/1600/900
Once per turn: You can send 1 "Spellbook" Spell Card from your Deck to the Graveyard. During the End Phase of the turn this card activated this effect: You can Tribute this card; Special Summon 1 Level 5 or higher DARK Spellcaster-Type monster from your Deck. You must have 5 or more "Spellbook" Spell Cards with different names in your Graveyard to activate and to resolve this effect.

Another week and another Prophecy Monster, Fool of Prophecy has two effects. The first effect allows you to send 1 "Spellbook" Spell Card to the grave. This is a strange effect, granted a large amount of Prophecy monsters need a number of Spellbooks in the grave for their effects (this guy included) but it does seem a bit desperate. The second effect allows you to tribute this card; if you have used the first effect and have 5 or more different Spellbooks In the grave; to special summon a high level DARK Spellcaster. This is a good effect but other Prophecy monsters have a similar effect but you generally don’t have to wait until your end Phase or tribute themselves to use them.

Overall a solid card but there are better Prophecy monsters you can play
