Friday

We opened with Spellcaster support this week, and we close this week with Spellcaster support.  Mystical Fairy Elfuria, despite being a Spellcaster, really has little to no room to work in a Spellcaster Deck, of any build.  Not because so much of being a Wind Monster, but because of her effect.  As stated, we have a Wind attributed Spellcaster, with 1500 attack and 900 defense.  1500 attack isn't bad for a Level 3, but her effect can make her a gem, in a dedicated Wind Deck.  So you're immediately wondering if this Deck is even possible to be done...

Certainly, perhaps a Harpie Deck, maybe in a hybrid with Dark Simorgh, as a heavy hitter.  Mystical Fairy Elfuria, if able to be kept on the Field (so maybe we're talking a strange Wind Stall/Burn hybrid or something?) could be deadly.  By revealing a Wind Monster in your Hand to your opponent, neither player is able to XYZ Summon a Monster with Monsters different than the Level of the Monster you revealed.  I'd say a good trick would be to use a high level Wind Monster, say something Level 5 or higher, as higher Rank XYZ Monsters are more difficult to Summon.

I wouldn't use anything Level 3 or 4, that's making things way too easy for your opponent, likely that's what they want.  Or, in Traditional anyway, reveal Yata and limit them to only use Level 1 Monsters.  Even though revealing you're holding Yata might not be the best strategy.  This is one of those cards that just gets KILLED by the Wind attribute, and subsequently, its effect.  I really want to like this card, I'm just having a hard time finding a competitive use for it...sighs

Ratings:

Traditional:  3.5/5 for reasons listed above

Advanced:   2.5/5 for no Yata

Welcome to Friday! Today we will be covering a very interesting tcg exclusive wind monster that can provide some interesting lock-downs against modern decks. Let's take a look at Mystical Fairy Elfuria!

Mystical Fairy Elfuria
WIND/ Spellcaster/ Level 3

Once per turn: You can reveal 1 WIND monster in your hand; until your opponent's next End Phase, neither player can Xyz Summon using monsters with a different Level from the revealed monster as Xyz Materials.

1500/900

Why the random wind monster in a Fire set? Well the next set is a wind-set with some new Wind monsters!

What do all competitive decks do now-a-days? Fire-Fists.... Mermail-Atlantean...Dino-Rabbit...Wind-Ups... they all have one thing in common; which is they xyz summon! With Elfuria, you can lock down an opponent from summoning their powerful boss monsters.

The issue? You have to reveal a monster with a unusual level to stop them. Level 3,4, and 5 will be your typical level. Luckily, some of the best wind-decks have some good levels! Gustos have some level 1's and 2's, wihle harpies have access to Pet Dragon which is level 7 (Mermails don't care about this sadly).

However, synchro based decks can easily run this over, and so can decks like Heroes. Elfuria can be a great tech for some wind-decks, just be wary of what you are playing against and if you can defend her.

Advanced: 3.0

It's pretty good for Harpies and Gustos to help battle some of the top decks of today.

Traditional: 1.5

Not that great to be here honestly.

Art: 3.0

Very pleasing to look at. Gotta love that exclusive art!

Mystical Fairy Elfuria
Wind/Spellcaster/Effect/Level3/1500/900
Once per turn: You can reveal 1 WIND monster in your hand; until your opponent's next End Phase, neither player can Xyz Summon using monsters with a different Level from the revealed monster as Xyz Materials.

To wrap up this weak we have Mystical Fairy Elfuria which is a Spellcaster for some reason, well that’s Konami for you, If it looks like a duck, sounds like a duck and acts like a duck; it isn’t a duck. Anyway Mystical Fairy Elfuria is mainly designed for WIND decks, it’s effect is actually quite nasty, reveal a WIND monster and neither player can Xyz Summon unless the material are the same level as the revealed monster. So if you reveal anything that isn’t level 3 or 4, you have a good chance of stopping your opponent from Xyz summoning.

Of course this effect has two drawbacks, first off it affects you as well so if you want to Xyz summon you either have to reveal a monster that you will be Xyz summoning with or give the opponent a chance to Xyz summon as well. Second it does require you to have a fair bit of knowledge or guesswork of your opponent extra deck, pick the wrong card and you might actually give the opponent an advantage.

Overall a good effect and it can use both WIND and Spellcaster support, just be very careful with it’s effect.

Advanced: 2.5/5
