Welcome to Structure Deck week! This week we're
taking a look at cards from the new Fire Structure
Deck, and we open up with the new heavy hitting
Monster, Fire King High Avatar Garunix. We have a
Level 8, Fire attributed, Beast-Warrior, with 2700
attack and 1700 defense. Beast-Warrior is excellent
as he immediately gets and gives a boost to and
from, respectively, to the Fire Fist Archtype. 2700
isn't a bad attack, but I sort of hold Level 8
Monsters to a 2800 attack norm, and the 1700 defense
kinda leaves something to be desired as well.
So two tributes isn't usually something we see very
often in a Deck for a Monster, so he's got to be
very good. Like Dark Magician of Chaos good. When
destroyed, during your next Standby Phase, and sent
to the Graveyard, Fire King Special Summons himself
back to the Field. But he doesn't get this effect
unless destroyed by a card effect, although it can
be yours, or your opponents. When you do, he
destroys all other Monsters on the Field. In my
opinion, while actually being a good effect,
certainly hurts Fire Fist, as they work well in
combination together, and unless you're winning the
Duel that turn, it's very counter productive.
He does allow you though, when destroyed, and sent
to the Graveyard, to Special Summon a Fire King
Monster, other than himself, from your Deck, but
he'd be destroyed when Garunix returns to the Field.
OH, and he only gets this effect if destroyed by
Battle. The big problem is he doesn't return until
your next Standby Phase. It's too slow, if it were
your End Phase, it would be better, even though your
opponent would have a turn to regroup. But giving
them the time to prepare, or remove Garunix, since
if he were to be removed before his effect
activated, he wouldn't be able to revive and destroy
the Monsters on the Field, I think really hurts his
playability. He's just too situational, and
honestly, he's not that good.

We are going to have some pretty exciting reviews
for you this week as we look into the new Fire King
archetype released in the new Structure Deck –
Onslaught of the Fire Kings. We are going to start
things off with a bang by reviewing the granddaddy
of all Fire Kings – Fire King High Avatar Garunix.
Garunix is basically a Dark Hole that activates on
the stand-by phase after it was destroyed by a card
effect. If your opponent decides to destroy it in
battle, you can then special summon another Fire
King other than Garunix. That does not give your
opponent many options in dealing with this 2700
attack Beast, nor should I say Winded-Beast.
Getting Fire King High Avatar Garunix to the field
is the easy part. All you need is one of them in
your deck. If your opponent has a monster and you do
not, use the Onslaught of the Fire Kings spell card
to summon it directly from your deck. If you do not
have this spell card in your hand, you can use the
effect of Fire King Avatar Barong to add it to your
hand. If you do not have Barong, use fire Formation
– Tenki to search for it. You can also use Fire King
Avatar Kirin’s effect or Foolish Burial to send it
to the graveyard and then use Call of the Haunted,
Monster Reborn, or Circle of the Fire Kings to
summon it to the field.
Currently there are only three Fire Kings at our
disposal. We will get a forth one at some point
called Fire King Beast Yaksha that can destroy
Garunix in your hand, but for right now, we will
need to add other monsters to support the Fire King
theme. Personally, I like to go with a level 6 theme
in order to summon powerful Xyz monsters like Hazy
Flame Basiltrice, Number 25: Force Focus, Number 11:
Big Eye, Number 6: Chronomaly Atlandis, Photon
Strike Bounzer, Sword Breaker, and Inzector Exa-Beetle.
In order to do that, I play Hazy Flame Cerbereus
(can be normal summoned), Laval Lancelord (can be
normal summoned), Goka the Pyre Malice (use with
Cerbereus and the Fire Kings to get their effects),
and Manticore of Darkness. All of these cards can be
normal summoned or special summoned easily, are Fire
monsters, and can be used with the other Fire King
cards to create great symmetry and a strong deck
type.
Fire Kings have a big downside, so make sure you
side deck heavily for monster removal as this type
of deck makes heavy use of the graveyard and can be
disrupted very easily. It is hard to tell at this
point how good Fire Kings will be. We may have to
wait until the next set comes out to have enough
Hazy Flame monsters to make the deck worth wild. If
YCS Miami is any indication, Fire Kings are not top
tier at this time. If they do make it to the top one
day, it will be because of Fire King High Avatar
Garunix.

Angelic Nightmare
Hello everyone and welcome to
another week of reviews! Today we have the cover
cards to the new fire structure deck, Fire King High
Avatar Garunix!
Fire/ Winged Beast/ Lv 8/ 2700
ATK/ 1700 DEF
During the next Standby Phase
after this card was destroyed by a card effect and
sent to the Graveyard: Special Summon this card from
the Graveyard. When you do: Destroy all other
monsters on the field. When this card is destroyed
by battle and sent to the Graveyard: You can Special
Summon 1 "Fire King" monster from your Deck, except
"Fire King High Avatar Garunix".
Does this card not just scream
at you “Dark Hole”?This bad bird is nothing to scoff at, it’s
2700 atk stat is pretty hefty in today’s meta game
where 2700 can run into Grapha and beat over most
dragons and sea-serpent monsters. This card being a
two tribute monster is quite a bit of a price to
pay, but there are a few little trick you can use to
get our feathered friend out wreaking some havoc!
First, you can go the ninja
route. Sure, this may not seem like the best idea,
but Earth/Flame Armor Ninja and Ninja GrandmasterHanzo could be quite the little engine with
Ninjitsu Art of Transformation with the targets
being either Garunix or Sacred Phoenix of Nepthys.
Second, another card that debuts in this deck,
Onslaught of the Fire King. I don’t mean the
structure deck itself, but you’ll see tomorrow
*cough*spoiler*cough*.
Lastly, look at all the
continuous trap cards! With Mystical Space Typhoon
running around at 3 still and Heavy Storm running
amuck,
Call of the Haunted can serve as a nice little tool
for self-destruction. In a response to the prior
cards, call of the haunted will summon Garunix then
call of the haunted will be destroyed. Once CotH is
destroyed, so is the monster. The key words that are
DESTROYED and SO IS THE MOSNTER. So prepare for a
Dark Hole next turn. Also, Safe Zone could help
protect your monster from pesky Bottomless Trap
Holes and Dimensional Prisons. Yeah, those hurt a
lot.
Pros: Great effects and stats
Cons: 2 tribute and useless if
banished

Traditional: 2/5 (raigeki and
chaos emperor dragon will always reign supreme.)

Welcome to Fire King week! This week we shall be
looking at some of the new cards from the newest
structure deck! Today we will be looking at the boss
monster of the entire deck, so lets see Garnuix!

2700/1700
For all those old school players like myself, this
should look a lot like Scared Phoenix! Think of it
as a buffed up version of our old friend. Like my
other reviews, I am going to take apart each effect
to see what it does.
First, you have the resurrection. If he is destroyed
by a card effect, he comes back next turn and wipes
out all other monsters! Mirror Force, Torrential,
Grapha, Atlantean Marksman, Fire Fist Bear, and so
much more.... he simply comes back for vengeance!
This makes him incredibly hard to kill as you have
to either banish him, bounce him, or kill him by
battle
But if you do kill him by battle, then you just
trigger his second effect, allowing you to summon
another Fire King from deck. Even if the monster was
a 0/0 vanilla monster( there isn't, but just for
example), this is an amazing ability just because of
how it partners with the other effect to make
Garunix quite the pain to deal with.
Oh, and what is even better is if you get 2 on the
field. You see, Garunix doesn't have to die by your
opponent's card effect to use his ability; he just
needs to die by a card effect! So what happens when
he is summoned while you have another Garunix out?
Well the first turn will be a simple monster nuke,
but it will keep happening each turn! Thus you can
always make sure that your opponent doesn't have a
monster. Add in Sacred Phoenix into this combo....
and you have free field nukes every single turn!
The main issue with the card is the fact that he
isn't that easy to bring out. He can't summon
himself from the hand or anything, except by a good
ole classic tribute summon. However, there are two
extremely powerful spell cards in the set that can
help change that and make this a piece of cake to
summon!
Advanced: 4.5
Looking down a Garunix unprepared is extremely
dangerous. Most standard decks cannot stand up to
this card, or have an generic answer to stop it.
Traditional: 2.5
It wouldn't be That bad in here... free nukes are
always good. Plus, there is a huge ton of monster
destruction card here too.

It's a giant fire chicken!

So we start out our Fire King week with: Fire
King High Avatar Garunix
“During the next Standby Phase after this card was
destroyed by a card effect and sent to the
Graveyard: Special Summon this card from the
Graveyard. When you do: Destroy all other monsters
on the field. When this card is destroyed by battle
and sent to the Graveyard: You can Special Summon 1
"Fire King" monster from your Deck, except "Fire
King High Avatar Garunix".”
Garunix is the new boss monster for the Fire King
archetype and he has a whole lot of firepower packed
into 2 effects. His first effect is the reason most
people will probably play him, especially as a
splash strategy outside of his own deck type. (Who
doesn’t like a built in dark hole?) His second
effect is what rounds him out against dragons and
anything else that runs enough big beaters to run
over him. Outside of his awesome effects we have
2700 attack and 1700 defense, which is decent for
his stats and great with his solid effect. His
biggest flaw is when you draw him, or he gets
bounced back to your hand. In a Fire king deck it
isn’t as bad, but splashed into something else
you’re not going to do much with him without taking
the -2 and tribute summoning him. (Short of Trade
In) I see (and have ran) him splashed into Fire Fist
decks all the time, and it never seems to end well.
I personally like him best in Fire kings or Ninja’s
(Super transformation is amazing) but have had
surprising success running him splashed into
Mermails. (Yes, Mermails.) Along with Onslaught of
the Fire Kings you can have a panic button for when
your combo gets denied.
Overall Garunix is a solid card that should at least
make you think when building your side deck.
As a side note, over the next few weeks I am going
to be testing him in pretty much every deck I have
access to and should have a rather comical report up
in the forums after I conclude my testing. (I know
not everything will work well, but I will try it
anyway.)

Shadowlaw
Hey Pojo viewers Shadowlaw back for another card
review. Today we have Fire King High Avatar
Garunix. Now this card is a lvl 8 fire
attribute winged beast with 2700 atk and 1700 def.
Now as for an effect during the next standby phase
after this card was destroyed by an effect and sent
to the grave it can be reborn and once brought back
it destroys all other monsters on the field.
Also when this card is destroyed by battle you can
special summon any Fire King monster from your deck.
Basically but this card is broken. It's sacred
phoenix on steroids. Because not only is it better
stat wise and has an arguably better effect but on
top of that it's even got a the ability to replace
himself if destroyed by battle. All and all if
you are running a deck that can trigger his effect
easily I would suggest running him as he is an
amazing card.
Ratings:
Traditional: 3.5/5 (still good but not as easy to
win with.)
Advanced: 4.75/5 (not completely broken but still
amazing)

This week we are looking at some of the cards from
the newest Structure Deck, Onslaught of the Fire
Kings. First up is the Deck’s cover card, Fire King
High Avatar Garunix. Fire King High Avatar Garunix
has two effects both which involve Special
Summoning a monster. The first effect is similar to
Sacred Phoenix of Nephthys except it will destroy
all monsters (barring itself).
Its second effect allows you to special summon a
Fire King from your Deck is this is destroyed by
battle. This effect has two problems; first given it
has 2700ATK it is going to be hard for the opponent
to destroy by battle. The second is due to Konami’s
love of creating new archetypes instead of
supporting the archetypes it already has and it is
the fact that there are only 3 Fire Kings available
at the moment (with two more coming in Japan) and
since he can’t special summon himself that
means you have only two choices which isn’t good.
Overall strong attacker and a great first effect,
let down by Konami’s love of creating new archetypes
and thus limiting the choice of monsters available.

Miguel
This week, we hail to the kings baby, as we
review some of the cards in the new structure deck,
Onslaught of the Fire Kings. We start with Fire King
High Avatar Garunix, who bares a
striking resemblance to a certain pokemon. Being a
level 8 monster, you can use Trade-In to grab
yourself two cards and save Garunix for later.
During your next standby phase, if Garunix was
destroyed by a card effect and sent to the
graveyard, you can special summon Garunix and
destroy all other monsters on the field. That can be
very nasty, especially if you The Seal of Orichalcos
as you can control a 3200 ATK monster, and the only
monster on the field at that point. If this card is
destroyed by battle, you can special summon a Fire
King monster, except another copy of Garunix. That's
pretty good, as most huge monsters usually don't
replace themselves as it is should they get
destroyed. But with 2700 ATK, that won't happen to
often. Garunix is a pretty good card, easy to summon
in a Fire King deck and can special summon either
itself or another Fire King depending on the
situation. This card is worth a spot in your Fire
King deck.
