A Spellcaster closes out our week, and this is a good one.  This picture on this card is absolutely sick, more on that later.  Reaper of Prophecy is a Level 6, Dark attributed, Spellcaster Monster, with 2000 attack and 1600 defense.  Level 6 requires a Tribute, but Reaper can gain his effect(s) by being Normal or Special Summoned, so that's great to start off with.  Dimension Magic is a great way to accomplish a Spellcaster Special Summon.

Now, the effects of Reaper of Prophecy are based on the number of Spellbook Magic cards in your Graveyard with different names. Three grants Reaper 600 attack points, boosting him to 2600, which is good.  Four cards grant you the ability to add a Spellbook Magic card from your Deck to your Hand, which is great.  Finally, five cards let you Special Summon a Level 5 OR higher Dark attributed Spellcaster from your Deck.

Obviously I first think of Dark Magician, but there are other options we received in just recent sets even.  These effects don't target, for those who may be wondering, and they are applied simultaneously.  As part of a chain, if you had all three to apply, or even two, it would go highest effect (one with the most Spellbook cards) on down, so five, to four, to three.  Also for the record, these effects can be activated if Reaper is Special Summoned during the Damage Step.

Ratings:

4/5 Both Formats...Reaper of Prophecy might actually be better in Traditional if only because he can fetch Dark Magician of Chaos from your Deck via his effect.  Very powerful and worth playing in a Spellbook Deck

Half way there towards the end of our Pojo Top 10 countdown of Cosmic Blazar! Today we cover the main boss monster of one of the popular Prophecy Builds. It makes Prophecy Destroyer playable and has a triple effect. Let’s take a look at Reaper of Prophecy, our number 6 on the list!

Reaper of Prophecy
Level 6, Dark, Spellcaster

When this card is Normal or Special Summoned: You can activate this effect; apply as many effects as possible, based on the number of "Spellbook" Spell Cards with different names in your Graveyard. You can only use the effect of "Reaper of Prophecy" once per turn.
• 3 or more: This card gains 600 ATK.
• 4 or more: Add 1 "Spellbook" Spell Card from your Deck to your hand.
• 5 or more: Special Summon 1 Level 5 or higher DARK Spellcaster-Type monster from your Deck.

2000 ATK / 1600 DEF

It’s a pretty good card I must say. It has a bunch of abilities in one; which are easy to get across due to the ease of getting spells in grave due to Power and Wisdom. Spellbooks have quite some search potential, so it will be easy to get the higher end effects.

So, you can potentially can have a 2600 Attacker, that searches a Spellbook, and grab another Dark Spellcaster to special summon. That’s pretty powerful off of one summon! From what I have heard, it isn’t that hard to summon as well; as you can easily revive a spellcaster off of life and easily tribute it. And as mentioned earlier; it isn’t that hard to get all 3 effects off in this deck.

There is entire Prophecy deck that revolves around summoning this guy and xyz summoning a rank 6 with Destroyer. You can later revive Destroyer using its ability. Or! You could go old school with it and summon Dark Magician or Dark Magician Girl for some fun plays.

Sadly, this build isn’t ideal right now due to our lack of Magi Magi Magician Girl, who is the main target to summon as all of your spellcaster support will work on here and she does some amazing things. You could go for Strike Bounzer or Force Focus if you really want to though.

Advanced: 3.75

I would give it higher, however without access to Magi Magi; it’s playability in the TCG is a bit lower.

Traditional: 2.0

You could try Chaos Prophecy in traditional; though I have no idea how useful it would be;haha.

Art: 3.5

The Reaper is one of my favorite tarot cards actually, so I love seeing a Spellcaster version of a Reaper.

Today we finish out the first half of our Cosmo Blazer top 10 countdown with number 6: “Reaper of Prophecy.”

“When this card is Normal or Special Summoned: You can activate this effect; apply as many effects as possible, based on the number of "Spellbook" Spell Cards with different names in your Graveyard. You can only use the effect of "Reaper of Prophecy" once per turn.

• 3 or more: This card gains 600 ATK.

• 4 or more: Add 1 "Spellbook" Spell Card from your Deck to your hand.

• 5 or more: Special Summon 1 Level 5 or higher DARK Spellcaster-Type monster from your Deck.”

Unfortunately I have not had much time to test the prophecy deck. However, it seems pretty solid and every new piece of support pushes it one step closer to becoming a top Meta deck. Reaper of prophecy (Reaper) has a lot going for it: It adds yet another boss monster, is easily searchable, has a good effect, and helps make Prophecy Destroyer more playable.

Let’s break it down. We start with the basics; it is a level 6 dark spellcaster type monster with 2000 attack and 1600 defense.  While these stats aren’t ideal for a level 6, Reapers effect will allow you to add an additional 600 attack if you have 3 or more spell books in your graveyard. So if you can keep a solid number of Spellbook spell cards in your graveyard this becomes a 2600 beat-stick.

Reaper can be Special Summoned from your Deck with "Magician's Circle", "Fool of Prophecy", and "Temperance of Prophecy". Or, it can be searched via "Justice of Prophecy". This wide range of options gives you a level of freedom constructing Prophecy decks that is seldom seen in newer archetypes. I personally feel Reaper lends itself more strongly toward an aggressive strategy, however it can even find a place in a control strategy without requiring too many tweaks.

Reaper’s effects are really nice. If you have at least 3 Spellbook spell cards in your graveyard she gets a nice attack boost. If you have at least 4, you can search 1 Spellbook spell card from your deck to your hand. Have at least 5 you can bring out another copy of Reaper (Without getting the effect of the second) or a copy of Prophecy Destroyer. I don’t know about you, but the thought of a boss monster that searches out the answer to any situation scares me a little; a boss that can search an answer AND summon another giant monster straight out of the deck? That is utterly terrifying.

In summary we see that Reaper of Prophecy has a lot going for it, even more support on the horizon, and the potential to help re-shape the Meta. I don’t know about you, but I am going to start putting this deck together before it tops a YCS and jumps in price.

Traditional: 5/5 (Spellbook is fast enough to hold their own in traditional.)

Shadowlaw

Hey everyone Shadowlaw back for another card review.  Today we have Reaper of Prophecy one of the brand new spellbook monsters released in cosmo blazer.  So let's see what this guy can do.  First whenever he is normal or special summoned you can apply effects equal to the number of spellbooks with different names in grave.  3 he becomes a 2600 beater, 4 you get to add a spellbook from your deck, 5 ss another lvl 5 or higher spellcaster from your deck.  Right off the bat I realize how non restrictive these costs are.  He doesn't have to be normal summoned so feel free to spam/reborn him.  Second spellbooks are constantly in the grave in this deck so expect to have at least 3 different ones by pretty early in the game.  Lastly he doesn't even have the restriction that he can't ss himself just that he can only go off once per turn.  So basically you're looking at a slightly restrictive lvl 6 tour guide for spellbooks that also has some broke effects.  Plus rank 6 monsters are great being able to go bounzer at will is amazing.  I really like this card if you have 4 diff spellbooks in grave it breaks even or plusses, if you have 5 it's either a plus 1 or 2 which is fantastic.  I think this card is a big part of the reason that spellbooks are going to become a fiercely competitive deck this format and wouldn't be the least bit surprised to see decks running this alongside prophecy destroyer for a great rank 6 engine.

Ratings:
Advanced: 4/5 not broke good but close
Traditional: 3/5 it's at least dark and spellcaster
art 2/5 it doesn't really impress me that much

Well thanks for reading this week and to anyone going to the colorado regionals next week good luck and if you play johnny nagel and wins take a pic and mail it to me at ajd7gf@mail.missouri.edu and I'll put it up at his locals for everyone to laugh at.  Just a little incentive.

Today we have an interesting monster that just makes a good archetype even better. This card is number 6 on the top 10 Cosmo Blazer list and it definitely deserves its spot.

Reaper of Prophecy
Attribute: Dark
Type: Spellcaster/Effect
Level 6

When this card is Normal or Special Summoned: You can activate this effect; apply as many effects as possible, based on the number of "Spellbook" Spell Cards with different names in your Graveyard. You can only use the effect of "Reaper of Prophecy" once per turn.
• 3 or more: This card gains 600 ATK.
• 4 or more: Add 1 "Spellbook" Spell Card from your Deck to your hand.
• 5 or more: Special Summon 1 Level 5 or higher DARK Spellcaster-Type monster from your Deck.

ATK/2000                     DEF/1600

Okay so right away this card seems to be good. It has decent stats when its attack gets raised by its effect. Reaper has multiple effects that can activate depending on the number of spellbooks in the grave.  Not only does this card have multiple effects but all of these effects are good.  It’s also very nice that this card can activate its effect when it is normal summoned or special summoned.  This means you can get its effect through tribute summoning, Spellbook of Life, Monster Reborn, Fool of Prophecy, or Temperance of Prophecy.

Now you may be thinking that Spellbooks can’t fill the grave up fast enough to make it work.  I haven’t played with a prophecy deck yet but you can probably combine the prophecy archetype with lightsworns to abuse this card.  This is just an idea and may not work too well but it’s worth trying out if you like prophecy decks.  So if you like using prophecy decks then don’t fear the reaper!  You may like him.  If you are playing against this card, that might be a different story.

Advanced: 4/5

-In its own deck it is pretty good.  I’m not sure if it belongs in a normal prophecy deck but I may be wrong.  It’s nice that this card can get pluses and be a nice beater at the same time.

Traditional: 1.5/5

-There is some potential here but I still don’t think it would be too good here.  It is dark but needs some set up.  You’ll probably lose most games before you can use this card at its full potential.

Art: 3.75/5

-I really like this card’s art but it seems a little too boring.  It is nice to see a cool looking magician that is also useful.

Today's Card of the Day, which marks as #6 overall in Pojo's Top 10 Cosmo Blazer cards of the set, happens to be Reaper of Prophecy.

Reaper of Prophecy can be looked at as the 2nd boss monster of the Prophecy archetype. However, if you were to compare the slick Reaper to the esteemed High Priestess of Prophecy, you will notice a ton of differences between the two. In fact, the 2 cards is so different to the point where it is best to run Reaper in its own dedicated build and leave High Priestess to another build for herself. In hindsight, I really doubt Konami has made these 2 cards to work alongside one another but, in truth, I will leave that choice up to the player.

For those who want to know the effect of this card, look no further:

"When this card is Normal or Special Summoned: You can activate this effect; apply as many effects as possible, based on the number of "Spellbook" Spell Cards with different names in your Graveyard. You can only use the effect of "Reaper of Prophecy" once per turn.
• 3 or more: This card gains 600 ATK.
• 4 or more: Add 1 "Spellbook" Spell Card from your Deck to your hand.
• 5 or more: Special Summon 1 Level 5 or higher DARK Spellcaster-Type monster from your Deck."

This card, being that it's DARK and Spellcaster, gives it access to a lot of indirect support. Any DARK support from Phantom Darkness will make this card a lot more playable as you can play Allure of Darkness and banish it after you draw 2 cards if you need the extra draw power. Magical Dimension can easily Special Summon this card on the field while blowing up an annoying monster along the way. This also avoids your precious Reaper from getting hit via Torrential Tribute and Bottomless Trap Hole since the last thing to happen is the monster being destroyed, not Reaper being Special Summoned.

So there is a lot going the Reaper's way.

It's a shame there is even more thanks to his oh-so-devious effects.

To get this card to be the strongest it can possibly be, you need 5 or more different Spellbooks in your Graveyard. It is easy to get 5 Spellbooks in your graveyard. 5 different ones, on the other hand, is clearly more difficult. You can do this by milling (which you can use Lyla, Lumina, or a combination of both. You also have access to the Fool of Prophecy for selective milling) or careful use of your Spellbooks (like Secret --> Master --> Tower will give you 3 different Spellbooks if Tower gets destroyed right there).

Good thing the card is quite usable even without 5 different Spellbooks in the Graveyard.

If you successfully gets 3 in your Graveyard, your Reaper comes out at a beautiful 2600 ATK, 100 ATK stronger than the High Priestess. A small but important advantage as this means Gem-Knight Pearl can only hope to trade blows with the Reaper instead of enjoying victory. You also don't have to fear Number 39: Utopia since he is forced to block your attacks in hope of a reversal. And yet people actually thought Number 39 will bring them "hope"? Such feeble-minded fools!

If you get 4 different Spellbooks in your Graveyard, your Reaper not only get his 2600 ATK he so very need to reap souls with but he can even search extra Spellbooks to join your hand.....for FREE! Oh, how nice of him. I never thought a Reaper would be so kind as to give you gifts worth having. If I was him, I'll give you the gift that gives on giving.....

Be glad it was him and not me.

If you are so skillful enough that you found a way to get FIVE different Spellbooks in your Graveyard, you get all of his great gifts for you to enjoy and your everyone else to hate: 2600 ATK, free searches, and he even gets to bring additional party animals to join in on the fun. After all, what could possibly be more fun than 1 Reaper hunting souls? 2 Reapers hunting souls together in unison!

Unfortunately, there's a catch to that Reaper hunting party. You can only use the effect of Reaper once per turn. Take note, all of you Reaper hunting maniacs because this restriction is more restrictive than you give it credit for. Why? Because you can only use 1 of the 2 Ignition Effects. If you use one, you can't use the other.

Sorry but Reaper can't search Spellbooks and recruit party animals both during the same turn. He's the Reaper, not Santa Claus. You better go see Diablo or the Lich King for that. If you do go make a visit to them, I wish you the best of luck. You are going to need it.

However, despite these limitations, Reaper can do you a whole lot of good. After all, there is a ton of monsters you can summon with Reaper's 3rd effects. You got Prophecy Destroyer that can be revived by banished 3 of the 5 Spellbooks given to make Reaper the almighty being that he has. You could recruit another Reaper of Prophecy so you can swing 5200 ATK of awesome power at your opponent. You could bring some sexy to the party by calling on the adorable Dark Magician Girl. If you want graveyard control, look no further than Delg the Dark Monarch.

You can even throw-down old-school style with the Dark Magician himself. After all, we all can use a little "Dark Magic Attack!" in our lives. Simon He agrees.

And this is merely the tip of the iceberg.

But what? One of my examples doesn't make sense! Delg the Dark Monarch can't attack on the turn it is Summoned. It's useless.

Maybe you need to pay attention more. You got 2 Level 6 monsters on your side of the field. I think you can do something special with that alignment in play.

If you guessed "Xyz Summon", you are right. You got access to Photon Strike Bounzer (which just got a very accessible Super reprint that we all come to love), Sword Breaker, and Number 25: Force Focus at your beck and call and to think that only cost you just 1 Reaper on the field to pull that off. If we ever get any Rank 6 that requires DARK monsters or Spellcaster monsters, even more fun for us.

Especially if we ever get Magi Magi Magician Gal in the TCG. Unfortunately, due to outside forces, we may be waiting for a while for that card's release.

It's truly such a shame.

To wrap this very long review: This card has a ungodly amount of potential and I hope I showed you something you haven't considered before when using this card. While I would only recommend only using this in a Reaper-based Dark Prophecy build, feel free to experiment with this and High Priestess together if you like. After all, this archetype has a lot of hidden goodies waiting there for someone to unlock and enjoy.

And, for all that is holy, keep him away from me. I don't like scythes.

Advanced Format: 3.5/5 (Very good card. The "X different Spellbooks" will keep this card in check but, other than that, this card is well worthy of its power.)
Traditional Format: 3/5 (I may be biased but any card that summons Dark Magician Girl from the deck with no cost deserves casual respect.)

Reaper of Prophecy

Dark/Spellcaster/Effect/LV 6/2000/1600

When this card is Normal or Special Summoned: You can activate this effect; apply as many effects as possible, based on the number of "Spellbook" Spell Cards with different names in your Graveyard. You can only use the effect of "Reaper of Prophecy" once per turn.

• 3 or more: This card gains 600 ATK.

• 4 or more: Add 1 "Spellbook" Spell Card from your Deck to your hand.

• 5 or more: Special Summon 1 Level 5 or higher DARK Spellcaster-Type monster from your Deck.

Number 6 on the POJO top 10 from Cosmo Blazer is Reaper of Prophecy which is interestingly a Level 6 monster. Reaper of Prophecy has 3 great effects which he can all get depending on the number of different named Spellbooks in your graveyard. So if you happen to have 5 or more you will have a level 6 Spellaster with 2600 ATK which can special summon a high level Dark Spellcaster and get a another Spellbook to your hand. Also since he has 2000 ATK you can use Magician Circle to get him out along with all the other ways Spellcasters have to special summon.

Overall Reaper of Prophecy is a great card for Prophecy and Spellcaster decks, of course he works better mid to late game.

Traditional: 4.5/5

Advanced: 4.5/5

Had this at #7 on his list.

Reaper of Prophecy is one of those cards some duelists looked at and passed over quickly. It kind of reminds mr of Rainbow Ruins a little bit, only it depends on how many different Spellbook spell cards you have in the grave. And you get more than 1 effect as well. Nice. If you have 3 or more, Reaper gains 600 ATK, giving it 2600 ATK. 4 gets you a Spellbook spell card from your deck and 5 allows you to special summon a level 5 or higher DARK/Spellcaster from your deck. The first effect is pretty good as 2600 is hard to overcome. Reaper's second effect is pretty good, as it nets you a Spellbook card from your deck of your chosing. But the thrid effect is the best. Being able to special summon monsters like High Preistess of Prophecy or even another copy of Reaper, which that one gets you your third Reaper of Prophecy! That's a lot right there, 3 2600 ATK DARK/Spellcasters. Wrap your brain around that. The down sides are, early on in the duel, Reaper may be just sitting there in your had for a bit, and it is just as easily destroyed by Spells/Traps if left unprotected.
