Closing the week and reaching #1 on our countdown,
appropriately enough I think (although my memory
fails me as to where exactly I had him on my list)
is Lightpulsar Dragon. As good as he is, I'm not
sure people realized just how broken he was until he
hit the Format and was used, by yourself and/or
others. He's crack for Dragon and one hell of a
card than can be utilized in about any Chaos build,
or anything else you feel necessary to play,
provided you have the right Light and Dark arsenal.
This is a Light Monster, as you may have guessed,
but Level 6 with 2500 attack with 1500 defense. Also,as
opposed to tributing, you can Special Summon ala
Chaos Envoy, by removing a Light and Dark Monster
from your Graveyard from play. Furthermore, by
sending a Light and Dark Monster to Special Summon
Lightpulsar from the Graveyard. But even better
than that, when sent from the Field to the
Graveyard, Special Summon a Level 5 or higher
Dragon-type Monster from your Graveyard. Odd that
Lightpulsar can only Special Summon a Dark, but
still really good I think. Multiple obvious targets
(sad Blue Eyes is left out) and respectable enough
attack at 2500, and ignoring the third effect,
playable outside of Dragons.
This is one of those cards that essentially wrecks a
Format, and although he has a great number of sick
combos, doesn't quite do it ON HIS OWN...I guess in
its own perverse way that helps add balance to one
excellent card. Continue to use and abuse this
while you can, I wouldn't be surprised to see him go
to Ban Land, but you never know what will, or won't
happen on a list. Usually never what you expect.

Topping our list for 2012 is Lightpulsar Dragon.
This is the card that almost single handedly
propelled Dragon decks to the top of the food chain.
I say almost because a card by the name of Eclipse
Wyvern came out of the same Dragon’s Collide
Structure Deck. Together they helped you search for
and keep Dragon’s boss monster, Red Eyes Darkness
Metal Dragon on the field.
The idea was to get Eclipse Wyvern in the
graveyard to trigger its mandatory effect to banish
Red-Eyes. Then you would banish Wyvern and a dark
monster to special summon Lightpulsar Dragon and
thus get Red-Eyes to your hand. Then you would
summon a Dragon-type monster and banish it to
special summon Red-Eyes. With both Red-Eyes Darkness
Metal Dragon and Lightpulsar Dragon on the field,
you had a soft lock on the field. If your opponent
destroyed Lightpulsar, you could use Red-Eyes to
bring it back next turn. If your opponent destroyed
Red-Eyes first or both of them at the same time, you
could use Lightpulsar’s effect to bring back
Red-Eyes when Lightpulsar was destroyed and then use
Red-Eyes on your turn to bring back Lightpulsar
again. This soft lock effectively made it so you
would always have Red-Eyes and Lightpulsar on your
field.
The versatility of Lightpulsar Dragon made it
easy to summon. By sending a light and a dark
monster to the grave you could special summon
Lightpulsar. If the light monster was Eclipse Wyvern
you could search for Red-Eyes. If the dark monster
was Red-Eyes, you then had your target for
Lightpulsar. If you had a Chaos monster in hand, you
had your light and dark monster in your grave. By
using Darkflare Dragon and Future Fusion, your plays
increase for days. The synergy of Lightpulsar Dragon
with the rest of the deck, Chaos monsters, and Dark
Armed Dragon made the deck overpowering and a major
force to be reckoned with.

I am very biased towards our number 1 on our
list, Lightpulsar Dragon. Released in the Dragons
Collide structure deck, it mainly, along with a few
other cards, brought life to Chaos Dragons. A level
6 LIGHT/Dragon type with 2500 ATK and 1500 DEF. He's
best used with other dragons/monsters that are of
LIGHT and DARK flavors, getting him out on the field
as fast as possible. Lightpulsar has that Black
Luster Soldier summoning thing going as you can
special summon him from your hand by banishing a
LIGHT and DARK monster from your grave. But you can
special summon it from your graveyard by sending a
LIGHT and DARK monster from your hand to the grave.
Also, when this card is sent from the field to the
grave, you can target and special summon 1 level 5
or higher DARK/Dragon type monster from your grave.
Let's be honest, 9 times out of 10 you are going to
try to get Red Eyes Darkness Metal Dragon that you
put in the grave when you special summoned
Lightpulsar, so that's all well and good. But there
are a few other targets, such as
Interplanetarypurplythorny Dragon, Vice Dragon, and
Dark Flare Dragon. Dragons ran roughshod for quite
some time, until they slammed the mighty banhammer
by banning Future Fusion, REDMD went to one and LPD
went to one as well. But despite that, Chaos Dragons
are still a force to be reckoned with, and
Lightpulsar Dragon is leading that charge. And is
the number 1 card of 2012.
