Monday
All right, we've got a fun week, and good things
on the horizon! We open this week with an unreviewed
card, have two Jump promos, and Thursday we start
our Top 10 Countdown for Judgement of the Light,
with its pending release! Sorciere de Fleur kicks
things off, I believe she was a card in the deck of
that French woman from the third season of 5D's. She
is a Level 8, Dark attributed, Spellcaster with a
beautiful 2900 attack but a troublesome 0 defense.
When this card is Normal or Special Summoned, you
can Special Summon a Monster from your opponent's
Graveyard. Said Monster cannot attack your opponent
directly, and is destroyed during the End Phase.
This is great...either it doesn't matter, cause
you're likely attacking for the win, it doesn't
matter cause you're going to XYZ or Synchro Summon,
or it doesn't matter because you're going to Tribute
for it. If you're playing Prophecy and/or
Spellcasters, you want to run at least one.

Sorciere de Fleur
DARK/Spellcaster/Effect/Level8/2900/0
When this card is Normal or Special Summoned, select
1 monster in your opponent's Graveyard. Special
Summon that monster to your side of the field. It
cannot attack your opponent directly, and is
destroyed during the End Phase of this turn. The
effect of "Sorciere de Fleur" can only be activated
once per turn.
Before we start looking at the top 10 from Judgment
of the Light, we are looking at some Random Promos.
First off is Sorciere de Fleur, a game promo for
Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D's Over the Nexus back in 2011, which is
kinda apt given the news of a new 3DS ZeXal game .
Anyways, Sorciere de Fleur is a level 8 Dark
Spellcaster (which is good) with 2900 ATK (very
good) and 0 DEF (terrible).
Its effect meanwhile is alright, one the plus side
it works whether you have Normal or Special summoned
it, and since Spellcasters do have a couple of easy
ways of special summoning. Also it allows you to
special summon an opponent’s monster. However the
fact that it can’t attack directly and it will die
during the End Phase. To be honest this card wasn’t
much cop when it was released 2 years ago and these
days Spellcasters are getting better and stronger.
Overall, an alright card with good ATK, Terrible DEF
and a limiting effect, if you want to special summon
a monster from the opponent’s grave, just play
Monster Reborn.

There are four Fleur monsters, each displayed by
Sherry LeBlanc in the anime. This is the Spellcaster;
there’s also a Level 8 Warrior Synchro that says you
must use the Level 2 Machine Tuner (you can use
Quickdraw Synchron instead). I’ll get to Necro Fleur
later, but the issue is that there are no cards that
unite the Fleurs together, so in essence all four of
them have nothing in common. The Tuner and the
Synchro are together, and Sorcière and Necro are
together, and that’s it. All of these cards were
promo cards in Yu-Gi-Oh 5D's video games.
Spellbook of Judgment summons out of Deck, Magical
Dimension summons out of hand, Spellbook of Life is
out of Grave. Since she’s a high-Level Dark
Spellcaster, Fool, Reaper, and Temperance of
Prophecy can all summon her from the Deck easy, but
you need a lot of Spellbook investment. Necro Fleur
is a weak Plant that, when destroyed with an effect,
gets out Sorcière from the Deck. 2900 ATK is pretty
powerful, especially considering how easy it is to
summon Spellcasters. 0 DEF is… literally
non-existent. When she gets summoned (except Flip
Summon, which you usually don’t need to worry
about), you get to steal a monster right out of your
opponent’s Graveyard! Granted, it can’t do a Direct
Attack and you have to return it at the turn’s end,
but an extra pair of hands never hurts (unless it
eats up the rest of your Monster Card Zones and you
wanted to summon something else). A free monster is
very versatile: high ATK, good effect, Synchro/Xyz
Material.
I’ve played against a Deck that used Sorcière des
Fleurs before, and I think I beat it. After looking
her over, I think the best strategy to use the
timeflower witch is to try to summon out a bunch of
Necro Fleurs at once, and then use a mass
destruction card like Black Rose Dragon, Darklight,
Needle Ceiling, Torrential Tribute, etc. so long it
destroys your Necro Fleurs (maybe it can be easier
to give control of the Necro Fleurs to your opponent
but that seems like it would be more trouble). This
will let you summon a bunch of Sorcière des Fleurs
at once. What makes Necro Fleur cool is that if you
use Fire King Avatar Yaksha, you can destroy it in
the hand; Chain Destruction can destroy it in the
deck and the hand (it works a lot like Yubel). In
the end, Direct Attacks from three Sorcière des
Fleurs will win the game, and you get to steal an
opponent’s monster to help you. I admit that her
lack of DEF means she can be slain by Tsukoyomi,
Maestroke the Symphony Djinn, or a freshly drawn
Book of Moon, but if you don’t get the OTK with a
triplet of 2900 ATK monsters, you can still get
ahead with some great Rank 8 Xyz power. Zombiestein
would probably be the most powerful choice, packing
4500 ATK and a negation effect for added protection.
Queen of the Night is a nice Plant monster, but she
requires three Level 8 monsters and that’s usually
not worth it. Coach King Giantrainer also requires
three Xyz Material, but that means you get to draw
three cards, so that’s usually worth it. The one I’m
most excited about is Felgrand the Divine Dragon
Knight. He’s coming out in the next Booster Pack,
November 8, and has a Quick Effect that lets you
protect any monster from card effects, meaning you
get to keep the monster you stole from the Graveyard
forever. My final tip is that if you really want to,
you can also use Forbidden Dress on the stolen
monster to get away with having to give it back.
She is a strong Spellcaster with a cute effect. In
any Spellcaster Deck she’s worth a thought, but in
heavy combo Decks like Prophecy or Dark Magician
usually you find you don’t have enough room and
there aren’t a lot of other kinds of Spellcaster
Decks. With her support from Necro Fleur, she can
also be splashed into some Fire Decks, but she is
used best when you capitalize on her.
Trad: 2.75/5 (admittedly she’s more powerful and
easier to summon than Dark Magician of Chaos)
Adv: 3/5
Aesthetics: 2/5 Oh my goodness, they messed up the
name horribly. “Sorcière” means a witch/sorceress.
De is a particle indicating location and “fleur” is
flower. In French, that comes out awkwardly as
“Witch of Flower” or “Witch from Flower.” Please do
me a favor and use plurals and call her Sorcière des
Fleurs, which is “Witch of the Flowers.” They
would’ve been better off just actually putting it
into English instead of being all fancy, unless the
gist of the original name is supposed to be just
Flower Witch. That said, she does look very pretty
the way her robes and hair sway in the wind.
Philosophy Corner: None for this week, sorry.
