Welcome to what I've dubbed combo week! All these cards, (good or bad as they may be) really only work in their own Decks, so all ratings (unless specified otherwise) will be for their playability in said Decks. This card today is, in my opinion, the most splashable of the five this week, possibly save Friday's card. Galaxy Wizard opens the week, a Level 4, Light attributed Spellcaster, with 0 attack and 1800 defense. Here we have a Monster with 0 attack not really being a problem as this guy doesn't need to do any attacking. Once a turn, you can increase this cards Level by 4 (ie from 4 to 8) which is obviously to assist in high level Synchro Summoning or the Summoning of a Rank 8 XYZ Monster. That is a pretty decent effect, and the part that could let you play it anywhere. As for Galaxy specific play, you can tribute this card to add a Galaxy Monster, other than this one, from your Deck to your Hand. We don't play a great deal of Rank 8 XYZ Monsters, so Galaxy Wizard could easily be lost in the shuffle.

We are going to be wetting your apatite for the new Zexal Tin that just came out. One of the main themes in Zexal as most of you know is the Galaxy/Photon theme. It is this theme that gets a big boost from this new tin. That is our focus for this week. The first card up is Galaxy Wizard. Galaxy Wizard has two effects that make it a perfect fit for the Galaxy/Photon theme. First it can make itself a level 8 monster which is what Galaxy monsters thrive on. Second, it can search for any Galaxy card.

The first thing we notice is that we basically have a normal summon level 8 monster that we can use to Xyz with. It also has zero attack, so we can summon it from the graveyard with Limit Reverse. If we do not have a use for it as a level 8 monster, we can always tribute it for a Galaxy card from your deck. Depending on what we have in our hand, we can get Galaxy-Eyes Photon Dragon and Galaxy Queen’s Light, or one of the new cards from this set, Galaxy Knight, Galaxy Expedition, and Galaxy Zero.

So let’s take a look at some of the plays you can make with Galaxy Wizard. On your first turn use Wizard to search for Galaxy Knight. Second turn, special Summon Photon Thrasher, normal summon Galaxy Wizard and use it’s effect to special summon Wizard, make Wizard a level 8, then Xyz for a rank 8 monsters. There are a lot more plays you can make with the new cards in the Zexal Tin which we will be getting to all week, so stay tuned.

It's Zexal tin week! A whole bunch of new cards are released in this tiny tin, and we start off with some space magic in Galaxy Wizard. He's a great addition to the Galaxy archtype, as he can search out other Galaxy monsters by tributing itself. That's good, but you lose some field presence by doing that, so use wisely. He can raise its own level by 4, boosting it to level 8. That makes for some good Xyz/Synchro summoning right there. He's a LIGHT/Spellcaster, so all those benefits go along with it, such as Magician's Circle, Honest, Shining Angel and even Spellbook of Life. With other cards like Galaxy Knight and Photon Dragon, it makes the deck pretty fun. Don't be surprised if this deck type tops a few locals sometime soon.

We start off the week with: Galaxy Wizard

“Once per turn: You can increase this card's Level by 4 until the End Phase. You can Tribute this card; add 1 "Galaxy" card from your Deck to your hand, except "Galaxy Wizard".”

Whether you are planning to build a dedicated Galaxy deck, or just splashing it into a Special Summon Spam (S3) deck, this is your go to guy. His attack is literally nonexistent, but he has a big booty that can hold a monster or two off in a pinch. He also makes some crazy combos with Galaxy Queens Light. You can pull him to the field with Shining Angel or Summoner Monk and you can use his effect to make him a level 8 and tribute him for advance draw. I like him.

This week we look at the new Kaito cards from the 2013 ZeXal Collection Tin since last week we looked at Yuma’s. First up is Galaxy Wizard; who acts as the Galaxy archetype’s main searcher. Of course he has another effect, which allows him to increase his level by 4 making him a level 8 monsters. This along with tomorrow’s card is clearly designed to get out Neo Galaxy-Eyes Photon Dragon. This effect also combos nicely with Galaxy Queen's Light allowing all your monsters to become level 8.

This second effect is a searching ability and a powerful one at that. By tributing Galaxy Wizard, you can search your deck for any Galaxy card and add it to your hand. What’s good about this effect is that it doesn’t have to be a monster it can be a spell or trap card with Galaxy in its name. Also since he is a LIGHT/Spellcaster with 0 ATK, there are a lot of ways to special summon this guy.

Overall if you play a lot of Rank 8 Xyz monsters this might be the card you need. Granted he is largely a combo card but a smart player should be able to get the most out of him.

Today's Card of the Day Review (and for the entire week here) will come from the newly-released Zexal Collection Tin. With that said, we will start with an underrated cards that is an archetype staple by the name of Galaxy Wizard.

Galaxy Wizard is an Ultra Rare within this short set, packing 0 ATK, 1800 DEF, and a Level of 4. It's LIGHT and, weirdly enough, a Spellcaster so it is a bit interesting in a way.

"Once per turn: You can increase this card's Level by 4 until the End Phase. You can Tribute this card; add 1 "Galaxy" card from your Deck to your hand, except "Galaxy Wizard"."

A short effect but a darn good one. First off is the level-increasing effect. Case-in-point, this is a Normal Summonable Level 8 monster at no cost to you. While that is very important to Galaxy and Photon themes, it actually has use outside of them. It is something to keep in mind if you are the daring outside thinker.

But let's go back and focus on what this means for Galaxy/Photon decks. With this ability making it a Level 8 on demand, it makes Galaxy Expedition live right there, allowing you to call a Level 5 or higher Galaxy or Photon monster straight from the deck and on the field, namely yours truly, Galaxy-Eyes Photon Dragon. Also, due to it being a Level 8 and Galaxy-Eyes being a Level 8, you can do a 2-card Rank 8 Xyz afterwards. Also, since it is a Level 4 monster, it can be Special Summoned from the deck via the Spell Card Accellight. Lastly, to go on with this, it is a Galaxy monster so if it is face-up on the field, it is a legit target for a Galaxy Knight Normal Summon.

It's second effect adds a lot of consistency for the deck, allowing you to search for any Galaxy card you want and add it to your hand. Key word here is "card". This does apply to Spell and Trap Cards so Galaxy Expedition is fair game. You do have access to Galaxy Knight as well, which is another key component for the deck. Or, if you are the creative type, Galaxy Queen's Light is also available as well.

One more thing worth mentioning: It is a Level 4 monster with 0 ATK. That has value as well esp. since it is so easy to get it in the graveyard. Why would I say this? Simple really. Debris Dragon. This card can help make one-card Rank 4 Xyz Summons quickly using this in the graveyard, which is something worth considering if you need that extra flexibility.

All-in-all, this card is definitely a staple at 3 copies for the deck so if you want to run this deck at its strongest, you need a playset of this. Fortunately, they aren't that difficult to pull or to find and we can thank Konami a lot for that.

Traditional Format: 2/5 (While the card is a god-send in Advanced Format, it may be a bit too slow for this format.)
Advanced Format: 4/5 (This is the kind of stuff that can make Photons relevant.)
