Wednesday
Continuing the week we look at Photon Pirate.
Level 3, Light, Machine, 1000 attack and
Defense...Light and Machine are very well supported,
and its effect can really be useful in its Deck. Up
to twice a turn you can remove a Photon Monster from
your Graveyard, and Photon Pirate gains 1000 attack
for each Monster removed. So he can have 2000 or
even 3000 attack each turn, provided you have the
necessary fodder to remove, and he's only Level 3,
so I like him, might be fun to use I think.

The Photon card that we are reviewing today is
Photon Pirate. Like the last two cards we have
reviewed, this card does everything we want it to do
in a Galaxy/Photon deck. First, we can make it a
2000 attacker for use with Galaxy-Eyes Photon
Dragon. All you need to do is to special summon
Photon Thrasher and summon Photon Pirate or use
Accellight to special summon it and use it’s effect
to be able to special summon Galaxy-Eyes Photon
Dragon. You can also special summon Photon Pirate
with Shining Angel, Limit Reverse, Call of the
Haunted, or Monster Reborn, and then summon Galaxy
Knight, use Pirate’s effect and then special summon
Galaxy-Eyes Photon Dragon. That is a lot of
resources, but with the right support and against
the right deck, it could be worth it.
Banishing Photon monsters from your graveyard is
kind of counter productive, but in a tight spot, you
could make Photon Pirate a 3000 attack monster to
get over your opponent’s big monster. While a good
fit in a Galaxy/Photon Dragon deck, it may be better
to stick to a rank 8 making theme.

Today we sail the deep seas of space (Is that
possible?) with Photon Pirate. He has the ability to
simply to turn into a huge level beatstick, by
banishing one "Photon" monster up to twice per turn,
it gains 1000 ATK for each Photon monster you
banish, making him up to 3000 ATK. Considering that
Photon Pirate is a LIGHT/Machine type, teaming this
card with Limiter Removal and Honest in the same
turn makes for a very huge monster ATK wise. You
could also use Pirate's effect to boost his ATK to
2000 and use him with Photon Thrasher to special
summon Galaxy Eyes Photon Dragon. Photon Pirate has
his uses, but I can mainly see it being used to be
turned into a giant beatstick in various ways, and
he also makes for a pretty good top deck draw
towards the middle/end of the duel should you find
yourself in that situation. Best used in a Photon
build.

Today we are looking at: Photon Pirate
“You can banish 1 "Photon" monster from your
Graveyard; this card gains 1000 ATK until the End
Phase. You can use the effect of "Photon Pirate" up
to twice per turn.”
My first thought is how great this guy could’ve been
if they had let you banish any monster in an
Injection Fairy Lily type of way. As it stands, he
is pretty good tech for a photon deck, providing an
answer to big threats late game and dodging stuff
like Level Limit Area B/Gravity Bind/Messenger of
Peace is nice. I just don’t think we have all the
needed pieces to make a viable top tier build yet.
(Though maybe it would be the next Jeff Jones Physic
deck if someone was able to break them open?)

Alright!! Today we have a Photon monster that is
one of my favorite monsters from the Zexal Tin. Is
it a good card? Not really but it’s a Pirate!! That
already makes this card awesome. Now let’s see what
this card can do.
Photon Pirate
Attribute-Light
Types-Machine/Effect
Level 3
You can banish 1 "Photon" monster from your
Graveyard; this card gains 1000 ATK until the End
Phase. You can use the effect of "Photon Pirate" up
to twice per turn.
ATK/1000 DEF/1000
Alright right off the bat, this monster is
obviously only useful in a Photon deck. It can boost
its attack by removing Photon monsters from play.
The problems with this monster are that it can only
use its effect during your turn and that galaxy
monsters cannot be used to boost this pirate’s
attack. That limits this monsters uses and shows
that this monster is only useful in casual play.
There aren’t really any other uses for this card
outside of that. It isn’t a horrible card but it is
very disappointing compared to the other Photon
support.
Advanced: 1.25/5
-This monster is not a very good card. It’s slow and
probably one of the worst Photon cards.
Traditional: 1/5
-This monster is just not good in this format. It’s
too slow and not worth using here.
Art: 2/5
-No eye patches, peg legs, or hooks? It could have
had at least one of those features. It really
doesn’t look much like a pirate at all. This game
could use more pirate monsters but not if they look
like this.

Today's Card of the Day Review is another card
from the Zexal Collection Tin: Photon Pirate.
It's a Level 3 LIGHT Machine, which is weird
considering it is a pirate from scape, that doesn't
look very effective early on in the match but can
finish the job later as clean-up. It has 1000 ATK
and 1000 DEF.
"You can banish 1 "Photon" monster from your
Graveyard; this card gains 1000 ATK until the End
Phase. You can use the effect of "Photon Pirate" up
to twice per turn."
This card is, in a nutshell, a Reinforced Human
Psychic Borg for Photons in which the ATK increase
is not permanent. To get use out of this card, you
need Photon monsters in your Graveyard to banish and
this card can easily be a Normal Summonable 3000 ATK
monster for just one turn. It's pretty lethal when
you think about it.
Unfortunately, that needs Photons in your
Graveyard for you to banish first. Also, to make
things worse, most Photon monsters is not cards you
just want to banish to begin with. You normally want
your Galaxy-Eyes Photon Dragon in your Graveyard for
Galaxy Knight plays or general revival via Call of
the Haunted or Galaxy Zero, you want your Photon
Thrashers there since it can be retrieved with ease
via The Warrior Returning Alive, and your Photon
Sattelite can come back via Galaxy Zero/Call of the
Haunted as well. You do get the benefit of using
Return from the Different Dimension to make another
big play off of this but that is a bit slow to pull
off.
Lastly, this only works on Photon monsters and
not Galaxy monsters. Even though there isn't a lot
of Galaxy monsters you want to banish, you still
don't have the option to do so regardless, which
only limits this card's ability.
All-in-all, unless you are running a mostly
Photon deck, you won't find much use of this outside
of a strictly tech as a 1-of. Most cases, you are
better off without using this.
Traditional Format: 1/5 (It's really not that
great.)
Advanced Format: 2/5 (It's a decent late-game card
only if we get more decent/good Photons. Until then,
keep this in your crap binder.)

Photon Pirate
Light/Machine/Effect/Level3/1000/1000
You can banish 1 "Photon" monster from your
Graveyard; this card gains 1000 ATK until the End
Phase. You can use the effect of "Photon Pirate" up
to twice per turn.
Next up is Photon Pirate from the 2013 ZeXal
Collection Tin. Photon Pirate effect basically
allows you to Banish up to 2 Photon Monsters and he
will gain up to 2000 ATK. So basically you end up
with a level 3 monster with 3000 ATK! Also it’s a
light machine so you can use Honest or Limiter
Removal on it for more ATK. This card is probably
best used late game when you would have plenty of
Photon Monsters in your grave.
Overall if you want a level 3 powerhouse you
would be pushed to find anything better, this lack
of anything else does weaken him.
