Solemn Warning being Restricted was the best move
made by this Ban List. Now you have one Solemn
Judgement at your disposal, as well as a Solemn
Warning, and that's it. This is one of those cards
that has just all but wrecked the game being run in
multiples, although usually two as opposed to three,
at least in my experience. Why was this a good move?
For two reasons...first, it forces people to look
for Monster destruction found in this card in other
places, probably via other Monster effects, but
we'll wait and see what ends up wrecking this
Format. Second, it forces a player to be a bit more
conservative when playing. Since you only have one,
you better make the one you use count. Maybe your
opponent is going to throw something out they WANT
you to waste Solemn Warning on just to be able to
bring out something better, knowing that you all
ready played this card. Honestly, it could be better
than it was at one, as using the one, at the right
time, could win you a game. Though using one at the
wrong time, could lose you a game.

This week’s reviews are pretty easy and there is
not much to be said, as the powers of the cards we
are reviewing are well known. Solemn Warning is no
stranger to the restricted list as it has gone from
one, two, or three now several times. Having the
solemn brigade (Judgment and Warning’s), on your
first few turns usually meant a quick victory for
you. The 2000 life point damage is nothing compared
to the damage you will be doing with your attacks
and the ability to totally disrupt your opponent’s
strategy.
Taking Solemn Warning back down to one means that
you will be able to make more big plays with less
disruption. It also means that the game will speed
up, and cards like Bottomless Trap Hole and Maxx “C”
may be more playable. The solemn brigade are the
most powerful trap cards in the game. In fact, they
rate my highest rating and I rarely give cards top
marks. With only one of each and no Royal
Oppression, players will need to be more wary of big
plays.

Today we are going to be covering a hit that was
well deserved and surprised a lot of people that
Konami actually hit it. Ever since it was released,
it hit staple status for many decks. Let's take a
look at Solemn Warning!
Solemn Warning
Counter Trap
When a monster would be Summoned, OR when a Spell
Card, Trap Card, or monster effect is activated that
includes an effect that Special Summons a
monster(s): Pay 2000 Life Points; negate the Summon
or activation, and if you do, destroy that card.
I don't know if the effect was really needed,
after all... it is warning. I don't think I need to
explain why it was hit; a first turn warning with it
at 2 almost sealed game with the proper set-up. It
allowed you to gain the proper tempo. Furthermore it
stopped any type of summon whatsoever. In addition,
it was one of the few counters to Gorz and Starlight
that is commonly Main-decked.
So, what does it mean for it to be at 1 now?
Well, for starters, you have to use it wisely. Ever
since the list was announced and I have tested it; I
have seen warning as your fail-safe for monsters,
just like how Judgment is for everything else. You
have actually think when timing it correctly (egad!)
Was it deserved? Did warning need to be limited?
I for one think so. It warning has become a staple
and part of the general deck skeleton used by many
decks. Just like how duality was limited in
September, Warning was hit now as it was in almost
every deck.
Now, I would consider it a skill card. You have
time your warning just right in order for it to be
most effective; which is the way it should have been
when it first came out.

It's warning.... unless you are monster mash or
have a ton of life-point payment cards, then you
should use it.

Ban list week continues, today
we have: Solemn Warning
“When a monster would be Summoned, OR when a Spell
Card, Trap Card, or monster effect is activated that
includes an effect that Special Summons a
monster(s): Pay 2000 Life Points; negate the Summon
or activation, and if you do, destroy that card.”
I am honestly surprised it took this long for Solemn
Warning to get limited like its big brother Solemn
Judgment. Anything that lets you outright stop a
play is a big deal, especially when it has counter
trap status to stop cards like forbidden lance from
saving its target. It’s a good card, and limiting it
will still leave it as a nice choice to compliment
your trap lineup.

March 2013 Status: Limited
Ah Solemn Warning the card that gets more arguments
about when you can/should play it that most cards.
Maybe that is why Konami have reduced it from
Semi-Limited to Limited. Anyway joking aside, Solemn
Warning is another powerful card, basically for the
high cost of 2000 Life Points, you can negate nearly
any summon the opponent tries to perform (as long as
you play it right). As I just mentioned 2000 Life
Points is a very high cost, but thankfully it is
well worth it. Use it on the right monster or card
and you can complete ruin a player’s strategy. Of
course now being at 1, people will have to think
carefully of when to use i.
Overall, while it’s now limited I seriously doubt
people will stop playing it, stopping an opponent’s
monster from hitting the field is just too useful to
ignore.
