You can only use this effect of "Harpie Channeler" once per turn. While you control a Dragon-Type monster, this card's Level becomes 7. This card's name becomes "Harpie Lady" while it is on the field or in the Graveyard.

Now, coming in at #4 today as well, is Harpie Channeler. This is excellent support for a theme. I don't see Harpies becoming Tier 1, but this certainly helps the Deck in more ways than one. She has the same basic unremarkable stats as Harpie Lady (though Icarus Attack can come into play being Winged Beast) I'll point out.

She allows you to Special Summon a Harpie Monster from your Deck once per turn in face-up Defense position. Other than herself, of course. Said effect can also only be used once per turn. While you control a Dragon type Monster, this cards Level becomes 7.

Harpie's Pet Dragon does come to mind, but maybe you could make a Dragon Harpie hybrid instead. There is a Harpie's Pet Dragon variant XYZ in this set (whose name escapes me) in this booster as well, although only Rank 4 if I recall. Also this card is treated as Harpie Lady while on the Field or in the Graveyard. That's worth noting, not that you should play any of the Harpie variants aside from Harpie Queen or this anyway.

Next we are looking at: Harpie Channeler

"You can discard 1 "Harpie" card; Special Summon 1 "Harpie" monster from your Deck in face-up Defense Position, except "Harpie Channeler". While I may not have had many chances to play against Harpie decks, I can still see how deadly they may become next format. She has an excellent search/summon effect, and can make an instant Gaios/Bigeye/Draco. Because of this card I am actually looking into builds for next format. Harpies are going to be good.

Today's Card of the Day Double-Header will now take up to #4 of the Top 10 list, and the card that takes that spot is Harpie Channeler, which is a huge addition for any old-school Harpie players (and a Tribute to Mai as well) still out there somewhere.

Here is the effect for anyone who doesn't know what this 1400 ATK/1300 DEF Winged Beast does.

"You can discard 1 "Harpie" card; Special Summon 1 "Harpie" monster from your Deck in face-up Defense Position, except "Harpie Channeler". You can only use this effect of "Harpie Channeler" once per turn. While you control a Dragon-Type monster, this card's Level becomes 7. This card's name becomes "Harpie Lady" while it is on the field or in the Graveyard."

Needless to say, it does quite a bit. It is basically a themed Summoner Monk for Harpies with some neat bonuses along with it. For starters, Channeler lets you to turbo out Rank 4 Xyz like Gagaga Cowboy, Maestroke, Number 50: Blackship of Corn, Lightning Chidori, and Ice Beast Zerofyne in one turn. Unfortunately, you have to discard a Harpie card but I'm sure that is not terribly difficult to do.

However, it gets better. If you have a Dragon-Type monster, Harpie Channeler becomes Level 7. So what does that mean? Let's not forget Mai's old boss monster, Harpie's Pet Dragon, who is a Level 7 Dragon and a Harpie monster all in one so this card can also turbo out Rank 7 Xyz monsters as well. Also, Tempest, Dragon Ruler of Storm is a Level 7 Dragon so that can also help in making Channeler becoming a Level 7 as well.

Now, the overall discussion stop there but why should it be? There is one other thing most people didn't consider about this card: It doesn't have any Extra Deck restrictions, which means you can use Channeler as a Synchro Material. So if you Special Summon Channeler like with the effect of Flying Kamakiri #1, and then use her effect to Special Summon Harpie's Pet Dragon, then you can drop a Tuner like Effect Veiler and Synchro with Harpie Channeler to make a Level 8 Synchro like Stardust Dragon.

You get the idea.

Overall, this card is a huge boost to Harpie decks and makes it more solid overall as a deck. I'm sure Mai appreciates the modest boost in power as well as her loyal Harpie fans.

Traditional Format: 2/5 (If you want to play Harpies there, I guess this will help out there but I wonder how good (or how needed) it is over there.)
Advanced Format: 3/5 (This card is pretty cool when you think about it. It does make Harpies able to compete to some degree and, with some outside help, could actually make a difference if the format ever slows down. If you are bored and want to toy with something for fun that isn't complete junk, this is not a bad way to spend some of that time.)

At number 4 of Pojo's Top ten from Lord of the Tachyon Dragon is Harpie Channeler, that's right folks, we have new Harpie cards, now if only Konami would do more to support the forgotten archetypes, instead of chucking out one shot archetypes all the time. Anyway Harpie Channeler has two effects. The first allows you to discard a Harpie card to special summon a Harpie in DEF mode from your deck. Well since Harpies love special summoning this is a great effect, especially as this will alow you to summon most Rank 4 Xyz monsters that need two material. But that's not all, if there is a Dragon on the field (say Harpie's Pet Dragon) then this becomes a level 7 monster, allowing you to Xyz summon most Rank 7 Xyz monsters.

Overall a great addition to Harpie decks, not much on it's own but Hapries like to flock together
