Number 102: Star Seraph Sentry
- #JOTL-EN053 Once per turn: You can detach 1 Xyz Material from this card, then target 1 face-up monster your opponent controls; halve its ATK, also, negate its effects. If this face-up card on the field would be destroyed, you can detach all of its Xyz Materials instead. If you do, any battle damage you take this turn is halved.

Today we look at Number 102: Star Seraph Sentry.
In Greek and Hebrew, the word "Seraph" means a
celestial or holy being. So appropriately we have a
Rank 4 XYZ Monster, who is a Fairy, of the Light
attribute, with 2500 attack and 2000 defense. S3
(as I'll refer to him for the rest of the review)
needs three Level 4 Monsters to be XYZ Summoned,
which immediately makes you compare him to other
Rank 4s that require three XYZ Material. Light and
Fairy are both excellent, and well supported,
starting with Honest. S3 has a couple of effects,
both of which I think are rather good. First, once
per turn, you can detach an XYZ Material from this
card to select a face-up Monster your opponent
controls and halve its attack. Furthermore, its
effects are negated. That makes the 2500 attack
look a whole lot better, doesn't it? Also, if this
card were to be destroyed while face-up (no
specification as to by how ie card effect or Battle)
you can detach all XYZ Material attached instead.
Also note it doesn't say THREE, just all, so it
doesn't matter if you've all ready used the other
effect once or twice, so long as you have a Material
to discard. If you use this effect, any Battle
Damage you take this turn is halved. I like this
card a lot, 2500 attack is solid, it can take out
cards bigger than itself, and even protect itself,
if only once. If you're all right with the three
resources to summon it, make room in the Extra Deck.

Number 102: Star Seraph Sentry
LIGHT/Fairy/Xyz/Effect/Rank 4/2500/2000
3 Level 4 LIGHT monsters
Once per turn: You can detach 1 Xyz Material from
this card, then target 1 face-up monster your
opponent controls; halve its ATK, also, negate its
effects. If this face-up card on the field would be
destroyed, you can detach all of its Xyz Materials
instead. If you do, any battle damage you take this
turn is halved.
Hurray time for another Anime Archetype, the Star
Seraphs are the main cards of Durbe and since (at
time of writing) he has only 1 duel, the Star
Seraphs have a whopping 4 cards and this is their
big gun.
Statwise Number 102 is fairly good, a LIGHT/Fairy so
there is plenty of support there and having 2500 ATK
and 2000 DEF is also very good for a Rank 4. What
does let it down is the fact it requires 3 LIGHT
Monsters, 3 monster Xyz monsters aren’t the easiest
things to support normally but adding an extra
restriction doesn’t help this card’s playability.
Effectwise it has two effects both with two parts,
the first one has not only a Shrink-like effect but
it also negates the effect of the monster as well
and this from just 1 Xyz Material is very good, plus
there isn’t a restriction on when it wears off.
The second effect allows you to protect it from
destruction if you give up all Xyz material on it
and then all Battle Damage is reduced by half for
that turn. On one hand destruction
protection and damage reduction is very good, but
there are two problems, firstly it does require you
to give up all the material on this card which isn’t
exactly a great thing, nor is the fact that the
destruction protection is an one-off so they
opponent could try to destroy this card again later
in the turn.
Overall an interesting card, both effects having two
parts is very good and the first effect is very good
value. The second effect isn’t as good. Still it is
hard to see many decks playing this given the
summoning restrictions needed.

Number 102: Star Seraph Sentry
Howdy there, todays card is another XYZ, but like
most XYZ there are far more that just fall short of
useful then the rest. This is a prime example of
one, 3 materials has not become fast enough yet and
cannot properly be used in the current scene. The
effect is great, actually amazing if used properly
it is too bad it cannot be used on the opponents
turn if I am correct. I wished the Seraph got more
support, but it seems like one of the fodders for
the set.
Traditional: 1/5 (Sadly too slow and not enough
resources here)
Advanced: 3/5 (No deck really spams 4 Star Lights
except maybe lightsworn, but there are better XYZ at
the moment, awesome effect though)
Art: 4/5 Nice art, wish it was a super though I bet
the wings with a gloss would make it look cooler.
