Slifer the Sky Dragon
- #JUMP-EN061 Cannot be Special Summoned. Requires 3 Tributes to Normal Summon (cannot be Normal Set). This card's Normal Summon cannot be negated. When Normal Summoned, other cards and effects cannot be activated. When this card is Normal Summoned: You can pay Life Points so that you only have 100 left; this card gains ATK and DEF equal to the amount of Life Points paid. You can pay 1000 Life Points, then target 1 monster on the field; destroy that target.

Slifer the Sky Dragon, I'd put as more playable than
The Winged Dragon of Ra, but still not as easy to
use as Obelisk the Tormentor. Again you have to
tribute three Monsters for a Normal Summon. Again,
said Normal Summon cannot be negated, and cards and
effects cannot be activated when you do so. You
probably heard this too all ready, send this card to
the Graveyard during the End Phase if this card was
Special Summoned. Slifer gains 1000 attack and
defense for each card in your Hand, as should be
familiar, and takes 2000 attack off of any Monster
your opponent Normal OR Special Summons in attack
position. (If attack remaining after is less than
2000, said card is destroyed). Honestly, this might
be the one that can work in Traditional, because
you're more likely to keep cards in your Hand
because of Yata. Not that you ever want to be
running around with a small Hand, but he's probably
just as good in either Format. Really three cards (ie
3000 attack) is probably plenty enough.

3/5 both Formats

Our last God card is Slifer the Sky Dragon.
Slifer is one of the least respected God cards. It
has all of the summoning protections that the other
God cards do, but after that it is only good in
stopping your opponent from summoning monsters. They
will need to summon monsters with over 2000 attack
or in defense to even have them survive long enough
to be a factor against Slifer. That is not an issue
with the top deck in play today, as the Elemental
Dragons are mostly high enough to survive Slifer’s
effect. Then all they have to do is to summon
Big-Eye and take Slifer.
Slifer the Sky Dragon has other issues as well.
First, you will need to expend resources to get
Slifer on the field as it needs three tributes to
summon. By expending resources, it will leave you
short handed and Slifer with a low attack. Then you
have the issue of protecting Slifer, requiring you
to set more resources and lowering Slifer’s attack
even further. Second, Slifer is just too easily
disposed of. Unlike Obelisk the Tormentor, Slifer
can be targeted, so cards like Dimensional Prison,
Compulsory Evacuation Device, Ryko, Dark Armed
Dragon, Raigeki Break, and High Priestess can
obliterate Slifer.
The final issue with Slifer the Sky Dragon is
that it is limited to the number of decks that it
can be played in. You will need a deck that can spam
monsters to the field easily. Preferably by special
summons so you can normal summon Slifer the Sky
Dragon. One cool trick is to use Ojama Trio or
Nightmare Archfiends to get three tokens on your
opponent’s field and then use Owner’s Seal to get
them on you side of the field for your Slifer
tributes. Another cool trick with Slifer on the
field is to activate Nightmare Archfiends. The three
tokens will be in attack with 2000 attack points so
Slifer will destroy them dealing 2400 damage.
As good as the God cards are, they are not game
breaking and have a lot of drawbacks. They are big
and clumsy and often result in a dead card in the
hand. Only a select few decks can run them, and they
are not even close to being top tier.

Slifer the Sky Dragon
DIVINE/Divine-Beast/Effect/Level
10/?/?Requires 3 Tributes to Normal Summon (cannot
be Normal Set). This card's Normal Summon cannot be
negated. When Normal Summoned, cards and effects
cannot be activated. During the End Phase, if this
card was Special Summoned: Send it to the Graveyard.
This card gains 1000 ATK and DEF for each card in
your hand. When a monster(s) is Normal or Special
Summoned to your opponent's side of the field in
face-up Attack Position: That monster(s) loses 2000
ATK, then if its ATK has been reduced to 0 as a
result, destroy it.
Today we review the final Egyptian God card, Slifer
the Sky Dragon. Slifer like all the other God Cards
requires 3 tributes and no effects can be activated
when it is normal summoned. Like Obelisk it can be
special summoned but it will go to the graveyard at
the end of the turn. Annoyingly Slider doesn’t have
the same targeting protection that Obelisk has, it
wasn’t the best protection but it still gave the
card something.
Luckily Slifer does come with its main effects
largely intact. The first effect gives Slider 1000
ATK and DEF for each card in your hand. A simple
effect though it does mean that Slifer’s stats could
vary anywhere between 0 and 6000 (unless you have
something like Infinite Cards). Still in the right
deck this could do massive damage.
The second effect has been slightly nerfed as now it
only works on face-up ATK mode monsters but still
the ability to force the opponent to play
defensively or risk weakening or losing their
attackers is still very good; and 2000 ATK is a lot
to lose and while wipe out most level 4 monsters.
Overall a solid card, it really needs its own deck
an dif it had some more protection like Obelisk it
would have been better.
