Number 85: Crazy Box is a pretty crazy card,
pardon the pun, what with its arsenal of effects.
But more on that in a minute. This is a Rank 4 XYZ
Monster, and a Dark attributed Fiend, with a beastly
3000 attack and a despicable 300 defense. Right away
you notice this card can't attack, so there's a 3000
attack wall, which means your opponent has to
destroy this with an effect, or a Magic or Trap
card. Or simply change it to defense position. Crazy
Box is a die card, ie, a card reliant on a die
outcome, and each result of the die yields a
different effect. 1 and 6 are awful, resulting in
halving your Lifepoints and destroying this card,
respectively. So that's a 1/3 chance of something
quite bad happening. 2, 3, and 5 aren't bad effects,
as you Draw one card, your opponent discards a card,
or you destroy a card on the Field. Those at least
grant you advantage. 4 is an interesting one as it
negates the effect of a face-up card on the Field.
Immediately you think you could negate this cards
effect, allowing it to attack. I think it's fun, but
it's too unreliable.

We finish off the week with Number 85: Crazy Box,
a Xyz monster with six different effects depending
on your die roll, a whopping 3000 attack, and a
restriction that it can not attack. Are the effects
worth the die roll chance? Well let’s see. If we
roll a 1 we have to half our life points. That is
really bad. If we roll a 2 we get to draw a card.
Drawing cards is really good. If we roll a 3 your
opponent discards a card. That is really good too
unless your opponent is playing Dark World. If we
roll a 4 we get to negate 1 face-up card on the
field. That is also good. If nothing else, we can
negate Crazy Box and thus allow it to attack. If we
roll a 5 we can destroy 1 card on the field. This
too is a plus for us. Finally, if we roll a 6 we
have to destroy this card. Very Bad! We therefore
have 4 out of 6 chances to have a positive effect or
a 66.66% chance. Those are really good odds unless
you are unlucky with dice like I am.
The effects of Number 85: Crazy Box are not the
only things that make this card good. Crazy Box
combos well with cards like Skill Drain and Dice
Re-Roll. Even though Dice Re-Roll is a combo card
and I hate combo cards as they tend to be dead cards
most of the time, we have another nasty card called
Sixth Sense that we can use it with. Crazy Box is
also a Fiend-type monster so using it in a Dark
World/Skill Drain deck could give you a 3300 attack
monster with the Gates of Dark World on the field.
Crazy Box is also a Dark monster, so cards like Deck
Devastation Virus and Eradicator Epidemic Virus
combo well with it.
The effect that stops Number 85: Crazy Box from
attacking can also be overcome with Forbidden
Chalice, giving you a 3400 attack monster. Let’s
face it, 3000 in attack is pretty good so why no
take advantage of it. There is a card called
“Corrupted Keys” that came out in the last set that
can mass produce 3 more 3000 attack monsters that
can attack your opponent’s monsters. That is what I
call a quick advantage.
Number 85: Crazy Box is well worth the space in
the Extra Deck of the right decks. Fiend and Dark
World decks are the best fit with decks that can
spam level 4 monsters to the field as the next best
option.
