Number 57: Tri-Head Dust Dragon
- #NUMH-EN030 When this card is Special Summoned: You can target 1 monster your opponent controls; this card gains ATK equal to that monster's current ATK. If your opponent controls more cards than you do: You can detach 1 Xyz Material from this card, then choose 1 unused Monster Card Zone or Spell & Trap Card Zone; while this face-up card is on the field, that Card Zone cannot be used.

Number 57: Tri-Head Dust Dragon is one of those
cards I see and want to play for art value alone. We
have a Rank 4 XYZ Monster, who is a Fire attributed
Dragon, with a mere 100 attack but a mighty 2600
defense. Tri-Head Dust Dragon is XYZ Summoned with
three Level 4 Monsters. This card does some cool
things. For instance, when Special Summoned, you can
target a Monster your opponent controls. This card
then gains attack equal to the chosen Monster. The
downside to this effect is that it's a timing
effect, if your opponent doesn't have something
worthwhile and strong out, then you're left with a
2600 defensive wall. Secondly, if your opponent
controls more cards than you, you can detach an XYZ
Material to select an unoccupied Monster or
Magic/Trap card zone of your opponent's, which
cannot be used. At least as long as this card is
face-up on the Field. In short, there are better,
stronger, and easier to summon XYZ Monsters. Too bad
too because of the art.

I can not say that I like today’s card, Number
57: Tri-Head Dust Dragon. Yes, you can base a deck
type on this monster and I will get into that
shortly, but it is just too slow, sluggish, and
costly to be effective. I am also going to talk
about some of the verbiages that makes Tri-Head Dust
Dragon more effective.
If we use monsters like we talked about
yesterday, we can easily get three level 4 monsters
on the field to special summon Number 57: Tri-Head
Dust Dragon. Once summoned, Number 57 becomes the
biggest monster on the field as it has 100 attack
more than your opponent’s biggest monster if you so
choose. Then, you can lock down one monster card
zone or spell or trap card zone for as long as
Tri-Head remains on the field. If your opponent has
one monster on the field, you could play Ojama Trio
and activate this card’s effect to lock down your
opponent’s field. Without the ability to summon
monsters and attack your life points, you can then
simply burn your opponent for their life points to
win the game.
Notice that Number 57: Tri-Head Dust Dragon says
that when it is Special Summoned, that you can get
its attack gaining effect and it does not take any
materials to gain that effect. This means that you
can Call of the Haunted or use Red-Eyes Darkness
Metal Dragon to resurrect it and still get its
attack gaining effect. The other thing we notice is
that this effect lasts for as long as it is face-up
on the field. Let’s just hope your opponent does not
have Effect Veiler or Fiendish Chain.
Quite Frankly, I can think of a lot better Xyz
monsters that require 3 level 4 monsters than our
card of the day, like Evilswarm Ouroboros, Night
Papilloperative, Number 32: Shark Drake, Number 69:
Heraldry Crest, Number 91: Thunder Spark Drake,
One-Eyed Skill Gainer, and my favorite, Vylon
Disigma. Heck I would even choose Gagagigo the Risen
over this card with 2950 attack in most cases. Sorry
Tri-Head Dust Dragon but I just do not like you in
this fast format.

Number 57: Tri-Head Dust DragonFIRE/Dragon/Xyz/Effect/Rank
4/100/2600
3 Level 4 monstersWhen this card is Special
Summoned: You can target 1 monster your opponent
controls; this card gains ATK equal to that
monster's current ATK. If your opponent controls
more cards than you do: You can detach 1 Xyz
Material from this card, then choose 1 unused
Monster Card Zone or Spell & Trap Card Zone; while
this face-up card is on the field, that Card Zone
cannot be used.
Next up we have another Number Monster; Number
57: Tri-Head Dust Dragon. Statwise it is a
FIRE/Dragon, which means that it has plenty of
support there with 100 ATK which is really bad and
2600 DEF which is very good. It does require 3 level
4 monsters which I am not a huge fan of but they are
generic which does help.
Effectwise it has two effects and both are versions
of existing cards. The first effect which doesn’t
require Xyz materials happens when this card is
special summoned and it gains the ATK of 1 of your
opponent’s monsters. Having an effect similar to
Copycat is good and helps to get over the terrible
original ATK, also since it doesn’t require
materials even when you special summon it later it
still has an effect.
His second effect is a strange on and is similar
to the likes of the Ojama fusions and Ground
Collapse. If your opponent has more cards on the
field than you, you can detach a material and you
can make a card zone unusable. To be honest this
effect isn’t much, while you can render a card zone
unusable just 1 card zone isn’t going to change the
game especially if you are already are a
disadvantage. Still a solid effect but could have
been better especially as the other cards I
mentioned can do more with no cost or conditions.
Overall a solid Xyz monster which does benefit
from have an effect that doesn’t require Xyz
materials, but the fact it requires 3 monsters and
the effect that requires materials could have been
better probably means this card would see much play.
