Gilford the Lightning is such a sweet looking card.
Despite having a really great effect, it's a tricky
once to be able to pull off, let alone gain any
advantage from. Light, Level 8, Warrior, good
things to start, as is 2800 attack, but the 1400
defense leaves something to be desired. By
tributing three Monsters, Gilford lets you destroy
all Monsters your opponent controls. Assuming
you're successful in this effect, you need to
destroy at least three Monster just to break even
for the three you lost. It's easy enough to steal
Monsters from your opponent to tribute, but then
that's one less you destroy, so that seems
counterproductive. Kaiser Seahorse can count as two
of your Monsters, which makes this a little easier.
Gilford isn't something you could really throw into
a Light or Warrior Deck, he needs his own Deck to
truly be able to function.

Gilford the Lightning
LIGHT/Warrior/Effect/Level 8/2800/1400
You can Tribute 3 monsters to Tribute Summon this
card. If you do: Destroy all monsters your opponent
controls.
Next up we have the strongest card in Joey’s deck,
Gilford the Lightning. This was last reviewed in
2005, you can check out the original review here:
http://www.pojo.com/yu-gi-oh/COTD/2005/2005Sep/21.shtml
Statwise Gilford is a LIGHT/Warrior so there is a
lot of support for him there with a good 2800 ATK
and a bad 1400 DEF. Effectwise you can tribute three
monsters for this guy’s Tribute Summon and he
destroys all monsters your opponent controls.
Sadly for Gilford there is a card that can do much
better than this, Beast King Barbaros. Beast King
Barbaros has 3000 ATK, an alternate summoning
condition and this three tribute effects destroys
all of the opponent’s cards.
Overall a nice card for Joey decks but for anywhere
else just use Beast King Barbaros

Gilford the Lightning is one of the cards that
you will receive if you buy a box of Legendary
Collection 4 – Joey’s World this Friday. With 2800
attack, it is quite formidable to deal with when it
hits the field. It is a light monster, so Honest
will help to make sure you deal all 2800 in damage.
It is also a level 8 monster, so Trade-In will help
with draw power and get Gilford to the graveyard to
be reborn with Call of the Haunted.
Gilford the Lightning’s effect to destroy all of
your opponent’s monsters when tributing three
monsters is pretty nifty by then you will need a
deck that can special summon three monsters easily
like a Frog deck or have a monster that counts as
three tributes like Kaiser Sea Horse.
I am not big on big monsters that require tributes
as they tend to clog up your hands and are bad draws
when you are top decking. With Gilford the
Lightning, you also have to worry about the back
row. Three tributes are a lot just to get rid of a
few of your opponent’s monsters.
