Wednesday
Queen of the Night is a Rank 8 XYZ Monster, XYZ
Summoned with three Level 8 Monsters. She is a
Plant Monster, of the Water type, for some reason,
with an impressive 3200 attack and and 2800 defense.
She has three different effects to choose from that
can be used during either players' turn, simply by
discarding an XYZ Material. Though you may only
activate one effect per turn, and frankly, they just
aren't that great for what you put into her. Target
a Set Magic/Trap card the opponent controls which
can't be activated while this card is face-up on the
Field. Target a Face-up Plant and change it to
face-down Defense, probably the best of the three.
OR target a Face-up Monster to gain 300 attack.
How exciting. She just doesn't pay out for what
you put into her unfortunately. She looks great
though.

Hey folks. Our mid-week card
for this week is Number 87: Queen of the Night, an
XYZ monster released in last year's Number Hunters
set.
The Queen is a rank-8 monster, and her theme would
suggest that she was intended to be made with a
variety of the Plant Princess monsters. Her stats
are higher than any of those monsters, but one would
kind of expect that out of a 3-material rank-8
monster. The other big contender for a 3-material
guy is Neo-Galaxy Eyes, and frankly I feel he's the
better choice.
The Queen doesn't do anything great for the Plant
deck like Meliae does, and on top of that she's A)
More difficult to summon, and B), there are other
much more powerful choices in the Rank 8 category,
such as Felgrand, 107, and Sun Dragon. Despite
having 3 separate effects, the only useful one is
the spell/trap lockdown one, and frankly you could
either blow that up with Sun Dragon, or just make
Felgrand and keep your third monster, using Felgrand
for protection and having two monsters on the field
instead of one.
Sadly I feel the Queen is an awful choice for a
Rank-8 monster and unless you feel a hardcore need
to play the Plant Princess archetype to its fullest
extent, I'd stay away from this.

Hey Pojo Fans,
Today we're looking at a numbers monster: Number 87:
Queen of the Night. A Water, Rank 8, 3200/2800
Plant-Type, she needs 3 Level 8 monsters to be Xyz
Summoned. “Once per turn, during either player's
turn: You can detach 1 Xyz Material from this card,
then activate 1 of these effects.”
● Target 1 Set Spell/Trap Card your opponent
controls; while this card is face-up on the field,
that Set card cannot be activated.
● Target 1 Plant-Type monster on the field; change
that target to face-down Defense Position.
● Target 1 face-up monster on the field; that target
gains 300 ATK.
Being able to activate one of her effects on either
players turn is useful, having three different
effects to choose from, also good. The most useful
effect Queen has is her first one. Sealing a
spell/trap your opponent has set can shift the duel
in your favor. The only way they can activate that
card now is if Queen leaves the field, and with 3200
attack, she won't be going anywhere. The ability to
turn one of your Plant-Type monsters face-down can
save you from taking damage, and may even protect
them if their defense is high enough. This effect
could also be a Book of Moon if the opponent is also
using plants. Lastly, adding 300ATK to a face-up
monster on the field (any monster, regardless of
type) may do the same as flipping a Plant into
face-down defense. Queen's best effect will be
sealing three set spell/traps and staying on the
field with her strong attack.
One effect of three being good may be a balance for
this card, but it doesn't make her worth committing
three level eight monsters to Xyz her, when you
could Xyz a rank eight that takes only two
(Heliopolis). The card she tries to seal can still
be chained to her effect, so you may end up wasting
a Xyz Material. She can still be targeted by card
effects, so her tremendous attack power may not be
enough to keep her on the field more than a turn or
two. If you can get her out, great, make use of her
sealing spell/trap effect quickly and frequently.

Number 87: Queen of the Night
3 LV8 monsters for an XYZ is an incredibly steep
requirement. Even 2 LV8's is demanding enough as it
is. It has 3 effects and the ability to activate
itself during your opponent's turn, but neither of
those 3 effects are good. It has quantity of effects
but not quality.
Effect 1 - (locking down a spell/trap) is
temporary. It could be good for aggro, but doesn't
work against fast traps.
Effect 2 – (flip 1 plant monster face down)
Protects against Mirror Force and the like. It's
nice to have, but still a bit situational since you
probably won't be able to use it against your
opponent's monsters.
Effect 3 - (1 face-up monster gains 300 atk) Is a
nice added bonus but is not compelling. And that's
the entire problem with this card. All of it's
effects, expect maybe the first one in a handful of
situations, is “nice to have” but not important.
It's a card based on added bonuses.
If it required only 2 LV8's, it might be viable
sometimes, but for 3 high-level material, it's not
good at all

Do you perhaps recall some time ago I reviewed
one of the flower princesses? You know the one. It
had 2800 ATK. And it had an effect. And it was level
8. It did things. Things that I remember but won't
mention because I believe you should go re-read that
review (and all of my reviews). Yes, I remember
everything always.
Today, gentleguppies, we look at the queen of
flowers: Queen of the Night. This card, unlike the
princesses, is unapologetic in its awfulness. In
King Garbage's court, this is perhaps his vizier.
Let me put into rhythmic words how awful this is:
I spend three monsters to make you,
No protection, so all removal will take you.
Your first effect doesn't save you,
The trap will be played when they shake you.
Why turn my plants face-down?
That is a tactic of a clown.
Losing 300 ATK wouldn't even make a Kuriboh frown
This card is always the bridesmaid and never wears
the gown.
What I'm saying is this card is atrocious. You -2
yourself to make it, and then it has some awful
effects that don't serve to help balance out your
investment in making it. It doesn't remove the
facedown card, 300 ATK on one monster is an awfully
low amount of ATK lost, and turning a plant you
control facedown is so limited in application that
it might as well not even be on the card. Do not
ever use this. Do not play it in a box, do not play
it with a fox. Do not play it in a house, do not
play it with a mouse. Do not play it here nor there,
do not play it anywhere. Do not play it while eating
ham, do not play it while making spam. Do not play
this in good weather, do not play this card ever.

Like yesterday's card, Number 87: Queen of the
Night requires 3 level 8 monsters as xyz material.
This monster, however, can be made generically. This
makes it a little easier to summon, though it is
still a big card investment. The easiest way would
probably be with Photon monsters. You could also use
Gimmick Puppets, Mythic Dragons, or Dark Worlds. The
most realistic way in the top decks would probably
be with Mythic Water Dragon, Mythic Tree Dragon, and
Blue-Eyes White Dragon.
The problem here is you're overextending. Even
though summoning Queen of the Night is doable, it is
difficult, and Queen of the Night has no built in
protection. All your opponent needs is a trap to
cause you to go minus 2.
And what do you get for this overextending?
Basically just a big beatstick. The first effect can
stun your opponent's traps, letting you play around
Mirror Force and Dimensional Prison, but you'd be
better off spinning your opponent's card back to the
deck with Alsei, the Sylvan High Protector. The
second effect is usually pretty useless, though you
can use it to dodge something like Fiendish Chain.
The last effect lets you boost Queen of the Night
potentially up to 4100, which is bigger than most
things you'll come up against.
This simply isn't worth it though when there are
better rank 8 monsters you can summon with only two
materials.
