Anyone who has followed CotD long enough to know
me should have known exactly what the card for today
was. Amulet Dragon, like yesterday, is a Dark
attributed, Dragon-type, Fusion Monster, who must be
Special Summoned with Dark Magician and a
Dragon-type Monster, or The Eye of Timaeus. Amulet
Dragon is Level 8, as opposed to 7, with 2900 attack
and 2500 defense, and also nerfed from the show
considerably. Yugi's version received 300 attack per
removing any number of Magic cards from your
Graveyard from play. This one does the same but
receives a paltry 100 attack per instead each.
That's just insulting, must have been worried about
it being too broken late game. I mean, say ten Magic
cards, that's 3000 attack, to 5900 like that. But,
for a much needed plus, when this card is destroyed,
you can Special Summon a Spellcaster from your
Graveyard. If you can sneak a Dark Magician (and I'd
prefer Eye of Timaeus instead of a Dragon, unless
you're running a Paladin hybrid) into your
Spellcaster Deck, Amulet Dragon could pay off for
you.

Amulet Dragon
DARK/Dragon/Fusion/Effect/Level 8/2900/2500
"Dark Magician" + 1 Dragon-Type monster
Must be Fusion Summoned with the above Fusion
Material Monsters or with "The Eye of Timaeus", and
cannot be Special Summoned by other ways. If this
card is Special Summoned: Target any number of Spell
Cards in any Graveyard(s) (min. 1); banish those

each card banished by this effect. If this card is

We looked at Dark magician Girl’s Timaeus Fusion
and now we look at her master’s Timaeus Fusion;
Amulet Dragon. Despite Dark Magician being Yugi’s
Ace this monster only turned up once in the anime;
mainly due to the fact that Dark magician Girl was
an important character in Waking The Dragons.
Statwise it is a DARK/Dragon which is good with
2900 ATK and 2500 DEF both which are good for a
level 8. It requires Dark Magician and any Dragon to
fusion summon and of course a non-specific fusion
material is always good.
Effectwise, as with Dark Magician Girl the Dragon
Knight, Amulet Dragon has an alternate Summoning
Condition and can be Fusion Summoned thanks to The
Eye of Timaeus, but again it has that horrible
“cannot be Special Summoned by other ways”.
Amulet Dragon’s First effect is a version of his
anime effect, but instead of being forced to banish
all your spell cards and gain 300 ATK for each one,
Amulet Dragon reduces the ATK gain to 100 but allows
you to banish spell cards from either graveyard.
This turns Amulet Dragon into a version of White
Horn Dragon. The boost isn’t massive, both it will
still boost this over the 3000 ATK mark.
Amulet Dragon is a second effect; it didn’t have
in the anime. If it is destroyed, you can special
summon a Spellcaster from your graveyard. Chances
are it will be a Dark Magician but it is still a
really nice bonus effect.
Overall, some really nice effects, and could make
an appearance in Dark Magician decks. But as with
Dark Magician Girl the Dragon Knight, it will
probably be mostly used in fun decks.

Hello Pojo Fans,
We're finishing out the Dragons of Legend week on
Pojo with essentially the counterpart to Dark
Magician Girl the Dragon Knight: Amulet Dragon.
Another monster I've been pumped about getting since
seeing it in the series, Amulet Dragon is a lot like
yesterdays card. A Dark Dragon-Type monster with
2900ATK/2500DEF, it needs a Dragon-Type monster and
“Dark Magician”. It can only be Fusion Summoned and
cannot be Special Summoned by any other ways. You
can use “The Eye of Timaeus” to Fusion Summon this
card as well. If this card is Special Summoned:
Target any number of Spell Cards in any Graveyard(s)
(min. 1); banish those targets, and if you do, this
card gains 100 ATK for each card banished by this
effect. If this card is destroyed: You can target 1
Spellcaster-Type monster in your Graveyard; Special
Summon that target.
Like yesterday, this card belongs in a deck that
revolves around getting it out. Elemental Hero
Prisma, Phantom of Chaos, Dragons Mirror, and The
Eye of Timaeus are all good ways of advancing that
process. The ATK boost from removing Spell Cards
from either players Graveyard (min. 1) and from only
one grave is a nifty feature. The best effect that
Amulet Dragon has though is its Special Summon
effect of a Spellcaster-Type monster if Amulet
Dragon is destroyed. Any way of destruction will
activate this effect (even if the card doesn't hit
the Graveyard). You are likely going to have a
Spellcaster in the Graveyard (even if it is only
Magician of Faith or Effect Veiler), so getting a 1
for 1 trade is nice. Its stats are pretty good,
2900ATK is nothing to scoff at, and it could get
higher depending on if its effect hits. Spellbooks
could see their grave drained of resources and be
facing down a beefed-up Amulet Dragon.
And just like yesterday's card, Fusion monsters
aren't popular. You'll need to play Dark Magician,
or a substitute for it (but then you won't be
playing Prisma or Eye of Timaeus). Not being able to
be Special Summoned in any other fashion really
drops the playability of Amulet Dragon, as well as
DMG the Dragon Knight. If either could be Special
Summoned after being properly Fusion Summoned it
would drastically raise their playability (Red-Eyes
Darkness Metal Dragon, Lightpulsar Dragon, etc.).
Fun deck involving both of the past two days
monsters, and a fun deck can be competitive if built
correctly.

Amulet Dragon
Yesterday we reviewed Dark Magician Girl + a dragon,
fused together. Today, this is what Dark Magician
and a dragon would be like.
With an already strong 2900 ATK, it's ability for
you to banish your spells and gain a little bit more
ATK is largely superfluous. It's still vulnerable
to basic removal despite the inherent nature of
Fusion monsters being -2's to summon. It's a big
investment with little reward. The effect of
reviving a Spellcaster monster is nice, but is
passive and slow whereas DMG the Dragon Knight is
quicker and can be more aggressive by destroying an
opponent's monster clearing the way for an attack.
This card sits and waits, in comparison.
I would argue that this is a step down from DMG the
Dragon Knight. It's slightly stronger, but it's way
slower and less dangerous. And if I wanted to
revive a monster, why don't I just run Call of the
Haunted. It would save the headache.

And to finish the week, we come to yet another bad,
nostalgia cad. And we started so strongly too, my
beauties. Worry not, I shall make this somewhat
entertaining for you, as I always do.
Amulet Dragon is a card even worse than yesterday's.
Generally, when you Fusion Summon you're doing so
because the Fusion monster is better than its
individual parts... so Amulet dragon reviving the
Dark Magician you discarded to make it is rather
awful. You know, considering 2500 ATK is downright
laughable these days, and non-dragon-type normal
monsters are a cruel joke, Dark Magician is not
something you should even be considering.
But I got ahead of myself, talking about its revival
effect before addressing its main one. This card can
banish any amount of Spells from the Graveyard
whenever it's summoned, and it gains 100 ATK for
each. Earlier I said 2500 ATK is laughable... the
truth is all ATK is laughable without some kind of
protection behind it. This will be coming out at
3000+ ATK mostly, but without built-in protection,
you'll just be stuck with some awful 2500 ATK
vanilla monster after you summon this (and that's
assuming Number 101 isn't involved).
Can I say this is in the spirit of the original card
from the anime? I don't know. That card didn't do
much against Raphael in the second duel... in fact,
it was almost an after thought.
