Shaddoll Squamata
- #DUEA-EN025

FLIP: You can target 1 monster on the field; destroy it. If this card is sent to the Graveyard by a card effect: You can send 1 "Shaddoll" card from your Deck to the Graveyard, except "Shaddoll Squamata". You can only use 1 "Shaddoll Squamata" effect per turn, and only once that turn.

Formerly known as Shaddoll Lizard.

Shaddoll Squamata

Nutshell:

Flip Effect – Destroy 1 monster

Graveyard Effect – Send 1 Shaddoll from Deck to Graveyard

It's graveyard effect is quite important.  In some situations, it may seem circular.  Why dump a monster if you're just going to use that monster to dump another monster.  For cards like Sinister Shadow Games, this may be true, although who would not like an extra target in the graveyard for Shaddoll Falco?  The main point of Squamata's effect is to essentially allow you to dump the whichever of the other 4 you want.

Examples.

Mathematician cannot dump Shaddoll Beast.  But it can dump Squamata which can dump Shaddoll Beast.

If you use it for Shaddoll Fusion, you can activate any of the other Shaddoll effects from your deck.  So, it basically acts as Beast/Falco/Dragon/Hedgehog in your hand for the purposes of discarding via card effects.

It serves as monster removal, as well, with its flip effect.  Monsters are often floaters, and therefore, Squamata's monster removal isn't as important as Dragon's spell/trap removal.  But it still helps you clear by those hard to get monsters, especially ones with high ATK.  It's also a LV4 with a good 1800 ATK, so it can work for Rank-4 plays.  All in all, well-rounded.

Assessments

Power – 3/5 ; Helps the consistency of the deck.

Versatility – 5/5 ; Between milling whatever monster you want, monster removal, being a beater and a LV4, it's pretty diverse.

Dependability – 3/5 ; It does kinda depend on what's in your deck and whether there's anything you want to remove on the field, but it is all around self-sufficient.

Card Advantage – 3/5 ; Like the other Shaddolls, this is a 1-for-1, that can plus.  However, removing a monster is a weak 1-for-1.  The graveyard effect is quite nice though.

Speed – 4/5 ; High marks on this one.  Now you don't have to wait to draw Beast, Falco, etc as this card can emulate them.

Ratings

Traditional – 2.5/5 ; It's a DARK and it helps consistency.

Advanced – 3.75/5 ; A core part of the deck that may not be as devastating as the others but helps consistency.

Mechanic Design – 4/5 ; Quite good.  I feel it is the most unique and complex of all the Shaddoll monsters due to it having a diverse range of functions.

Artwork – 3/5 ; Pretty cool dinosaur-bones kinda vibe to it.  A bit scary.

Verdict

Monster-removing card which can essentially emulate the others when needed.  Run 2-3.

Shaddoll Squamata

Welcome to Twofer Friday, as we close Shaddoll Week with Shaddoll Squamata aka Shaddoll Lizard. Statwise it’s a DARK/Spellcaster which is very good with 1800 ATK and 1000 DEF both are common for a level 4 beatstick.

As with all main deck Shaddoll’s, Shaddoll Squamata has two effects. The FLIP effect is similar to Man-Eater Bug, only it is optional, but still being able to destroy a monster with no cost is always a good thing.

The second effect allows you to sends a Shaddoll card from your deck to the graveyard. While it can be any card, it is more than likely you will be going to for a Shaddoll Monster so you can get its graveyard effect and thin your deck. So another solid effect.

Overall another solid Shaddoll Monster, a beatstick with a destruction effect and a deck thinning effect. Another one for the Deck.

Hello Pojo Fans,

Unlike yesterdays monster, Shaddoll Hedgehog has small ATK/DEF and doesn't have the benefit of being a Tuner. Same as all Shaddoll's in regards to having two effects. Add a “Shaddoll” spell/trap from your deck if you flip it. If Hedgehog hits the grave by a card effect then you can add a “Shaddoll” monster from your deck except a copy of himself.

Pulling any monster of the archetype to the hand can set up a fusion play, but if you are able to flip this guy on your turn and go into a fusion without needing to add a monster to the hand, then the flip effect is better. Shaddoll Core and Shaddoll Fusion are the only current targets, but a Shaddoll deck will be likely running at least two of the Core and three of the Fusion. There's different ways you can play to get the flip effects off the same turn  you set any “Shaddoll” monster (Book of Taiyou, A/D Changer).

This guy isn't as good as Falco, but he is needed in 3's. Any searching that is going to reload your hand for another big play is good.

Squamata

Fun Fact: If you didn't know, Squamata is the largest order of scaled reptiles encompassing all lizards and snakes
Why they didn't just leave it Lizard, I still don't know..but it's our Card of the Day. Dark/Spellcaster..you get the deal if you read any of the reviews this week(minus tuesdays..still say mine was the best). Squamata boasts the best lv4 attack of the group at 1800 and as always, two really good effects. If it's flipped, nuke a monster just like good ol man eater bug..i'm showing my age there. If it's sent to the graveyard by card effect, you can send another shaddoll to the graveyard from the deck. Since Shaddolls are going more Mathematician over Armageddon Knight, and Math can't send Shaddoll Beast, this indirectly lets Math send Beast anyways to trigger its effects. I mean basically, if you've read any review, all the Shaddolls are good, and the deck definitely is a top contender this format, Toronto is only a week away :)

Closing out this week is Shaddoll the Hedgehog- er… Shaddoll Hedgehog.

This card is the corrupted version of Neo Flamvell Hedgehog. It is Level 3 (which isn’t particularly great in this Deck, but opens up Armades plays with Falco), and has 800 ATK and 200 DEF, both of which are pretty pitiful.

However, Shaddoll Hedgehog is the Deck’s primary floater, as both of its effects add a card from your Deck to your hand. Its Flip Effect, which adds a Shaddoll Spell/Trap Card, is powerful during the first few stages of the game, as it makes the card effectively three extra copies of Shaddoll Fusion, a card you want to have as early as possible. Its second effect will add any other Shaddoll monster from your Deck to your hand, giving it utility in nearly all stages of the game and helping you maintain strong advantage.

Given its strong utility at all stages of the game, and the fact that it’s the one Shaddoll that you want to open with in almost any situation, I would argue that Shaddoll Hedgehog is one of the only two Shaddoll monsters that is arguably (at least at this current time) a three-of (the other being Dragon, for reasons I mentioned on Wednesday). The consistency it provides for the Deck is too great.

Shaddoll Squamata starts us for this 2 for 1 Friday. A level 4 DARK/Spellcaster (How is this a Spellcaster?) with 1800/1000 for ATK/DEF. As the rest of its fellow Shaddolls, it has a flip effect, Target one monster on the field and destroy it. Man-Eater Bug fans rejoice! Squamata's other effect falls in line with its brethren as if it's sent from your deck to the graveyard, send one Shaddoll card from you deck to the grave. With 1800 ATK, it can hold its own with most monsters, and with its 1000 DEF, you are sure to get that flip effect off when your opponent attacks. You can use other Shaddoll monsters, Mathematician or Foolish Burial to get in from deck to grave, to send what other Shaddoll card in the grave. It's safe to say that Squamata is just as useful as the others, Shaddolls are a very well oiled machine and Squamata is worth a few spots in the deck.

How is this a Spellcaster?

Vendetta Friday - Shaddoll Squamata

So todays card of the day is Shaddoll Squamata. 1800 Attack, flip effect to destroy a card on the field. Its a good card by any means. It also has a mediocre mill effect to mill another Shaddoll, which is all well when you use Kuribandit, The Dark Creator or Sephylon, but has very few applications outside of those cards. It can be used with Mathemitician to dump >4 monsters like Beast, or to dump core but thats about it.
