Its a Tuner to summon Virgil and a nice defense
wall, making it the best of the new Malebranche
monsters. But its basically just a name, which
is all the deck needs to plus.
It's not as good as the original 3 Malebranche
monsters but its worth using 3 Rubic (as well as
Calcab and Alich) so it increases your chances of
making "first turn Dante".

Hello Pojo Fans,
Burning Abyss get a Tuner to go with their Synchro
monster in the new set. Rubic, Malebranche of the
Burning Abyss is the first “Burning Abyss” monster
that is a Tuner. Beside the standard “Burning Abyss”
monster effects, Rubic cannot be used as a material
for a Synchro Summon unless it is a “Burning Abyss”
monster.
While you still can Special Summon him if you
control no spell/traps, the restriction on how he
can be used in a Synchro Summon takes away from how
good Rubic could have been. There is only one
“Burning Abyss” Synchro monster, and though you
won't need to do anything special to match levels to
make Virgil (all main deck “Burning Abyss” monsters
are level 3) the fact that you can only use Rubic to
Synchro Summon Virgil is a big downside. Goyo
Guardian would be a great target for this card to
summon. You likely will always be playing to Synchro
Virgil, but Goyo may be needed and you won't have
access to him. The option of stacking Rubic with
another “Burning Abyss” and making Dante or any
other Rank 3 is still there, but Rubic isn't a
floater like all the other “Burning Abyss” monsters.
You can bring it out with Crane Crane or Tour Guide,
bounce with Birdman and go Virgil like that, but
that could've been simplified if Rubic didn't have
the restriction.
Run one right now. There are better Tuner monsters
you could tech.

Rubic is perhaps the most flexible in the Burning
Abyss archetype. A level 3 DARK/Fiend Tuner monster
with 100/2100 ATK/DEF stats, and much like the rest
of the bunch, if you control a monster that is not a
Burning Abyss monster, destroy this monster. If you
control no Spells/Trap cards, you can special summon
this card from your hand. And you can only use Rubic
for the Synchro summoning of a Burning Abyss
monster. You can use it's special summoning effect
to get it on the field, then summon another Burning
Abyss monster and do what you gotta do from there.
Or use Tour Guide to special summon it and have it's
effects negated and proceed as you wish. Or, just
leave it in in defense mode until you can get what
you need, as 2100 DEF is a bit hard to get around.
Rubic is a must for the deck type and it's pretty
much the swiss knife is some ways for the Burning
Abyss deck.
Traditional: 3 I think they can do well here
