Tuesday
Self-Destruct Button certainly fits the build for
one of the most random cards to be Banned, possibly
ever. From a luck sack point of view, I like this
move a lot. Although letting there be a 7000
Lifepoint different between you and your opponent is
actually more difficult than you may think. Ditto
not losing the game while making said difference. I
guess it's a luck sack that requires some skill.
It's certainly not to the annoyance or devastation
Last Turn can cause. I'm overall a fan of alternate
win conditions, or I suppose alternate draw
conditions, in case of this card. Self-Destruct
Button did actually pop up in more Decks than you
might think, but I hardly think this was Ban worthy.
Ratings:
Traditional: 2.85/5 Not a bad alternate draw
condition, but with nothing Banned, there are more
fun ways to go about this.
Advanced: Banned
Art: 5/5 Simple, but fun

If you are like me and have been around sense the
dinosaur era, then you will remember one of the most
annoying cards in the game. Self-Destruct Button
decks would simply end any game that was not going
in the player’s favor. You would mostly see it
played in a Final Countdown, Exodia, or Mill decks,
as those decks do not have a life point win
condition. You would also see it played with Wall of
Revealing Light, as that card can give you that 7000
point differential all at once.
If you are playing a deck that has risks or is an
all or nothing FTK type deck, then this card is for
you. If you play the Wing Dragon of Ra which takes
you life points to 100 but has the ability to end a
dual quickly, then Self-Destruct Button can save
your butt when your plan fails. There is also a card
called “Infernity Zero” that is the perfect match
for Self-Destruct Button, as when your life points
are reduced to zero, Infernity Zero automatically
wins the game for you.
Back in the day, we did not have Draws, so games
could go forever until someone won a game. Hate was
not the word we had for Self-Destruct Button. But
now with games being able to end in a draw, it is
not that bad unless it gets to day 2 at an YCS.
Let’s just hope that never happens. It is no fun to
play hard for 40 minutes just to end up in a draw.

Self-Destruct Button
Normal Trap
You can only activate this card when your Life
Points are lower than your opponent's Life Points
and the difference is 7000 points or more. Both
players’ Life Points become 0.
January 2014 Status: Forbidden
Today we look at Self-Destruct Button recent being
made Forbidden in the January 2014 ban list.
Self-Destruct button is noteworthy as being the only
card that will actually end a duel in a draw. This
card has been added to the ban list not just to stop
Self Destruct decks but because as with the already
banned Victory Dragon this card wrecked tournaments
since a match cannot end in a draw.
Overall it is banned because it didn’t fit into the
tournament structure, simple as that.

Happy Tuesday everyone! Today's review covers
Self-Destruct Button, an older trap that was
recently hit by the ban list.
Now you might ask yourself, "Why? What is the
point?" Well, along with Final Countdown, this card
was used in a deck type that was hardly fun to play
against, took forever for both players, and
ultimately degraded the spirit of the game.
That's not the full story though. There were decks
that would run this in tandem with other speed cards
to either draw Exodia during the opponent's opening
turn, or just use this to end the duel and progress
to the next one. I recall my favorite encounter
with this card; I was playing Spellbooks around the
Abyss Rising era, opponent playing said Exodia deck.
I won game one, no problem, so he decided to go
first the next game. He then proceeded to stall
with this combo until the end of regular time by
forcing the game into a draw before I got to my Draw
phase. I don't know how many people sided in MST
with Spellbooks, but I sure didn't. But anyway, we
get to time being up, and he sides in a lot of
copies of Poison of the Old Man, Emergency Rations,
anything to gain LP advantage... And won the match
like that.
Needless to say, it wouldn't have happened if not
for this card. Its only purpose in life is in decks
that are too stupid to see the light of day, and
thus only come out of the word work at your local
scene. Thankfully though now it's banned, though
whether or not it's from a gameplay standpoint or
because Konami listened to my letters about
heightened blood pressure, the world may never know.
Traditional: 1/5, Last Turn is legal here!
Advanced: Banned/5
Art: 2/5

Self-Destruct Button
Be assured that this card wasn't banned because
it was too good. It was only banned because it was
poorly designed and impeded the progress of the
game. Some people went to tournaments and
deliberately tied the game many consecutive times
just to go over the time limit and annoy the judges.
It was a rarity, yes, but not a welcomed one. Why
they waited until now, who knows, but at this point,
who cares?
It's other use was in a Last Turn deck. Let's say
you were not able to draw Last Turn in time, you
still had this card as a back-up option so you
didn't lose. But things have changed since then.
There's way better ways to winning games than just
using Last Turn (unlike in 2003-2006).
Traditional: 1/5 (Bad)
Advanced: Banned (but would be
a 1/5 - Bad)

That Kozaky guy sure has a penchant for blowing
things up. "Things" often being "himself". Welcome,
my guppies, welcome to Terrorking's brief review of
Self-Destruct Button.
This card isn't good by any stretch of the
imagination, but if you ever wondered why Wall of
Revealing Light is on the banlist, this is the/one
of the reasons. What you would do, my dear guppies,
is try to win the first game of a match and then
stall out all other games of the match by combining
Wall of Revealing Light and Self-Destruct Button and
win when the time for the match runs out. It was
what many call a "troll deck." In truth, this card
and the deck built around it has little to no
potency. It is just an "in-joke" between Yugioh
players, much like the so-called "Grandsoil F/OTK"
(all you need is Grandsoil + Cannon Solder + Swap
Frog or Mist Valley Shaman), and really has no place
being banned.
How to counter Self-Destruct Button: play as you
normally would. It takes amazing luck to set up this
perfect scenario where it ties you multiple times.
Traditional: 1/5 (you have Ring of Destruction here
for Draws)
