Pilica, Descendant of Gusto
Shout out to Christian Moss for helping me take care
of the site. He (with myself) interviewed and hired
good reviewers such as Snype, Vendetta,
GuyWithTheHat and T-Rex. Since he's been doing all
that behind the scenes work, he has had less time to
review, so I'm just making him visible. Anyways,
onto Pilica.
First of all, use 3 copies of Pilica in your Gusto
deck or else (like Fred Sanford said) you are a "big
ol' dummeh!!".
This card's effect even triggers on a Special
Summon! Also, keep in mind that your own searchers
can bring this card from the deck to the field so it
can activate its effect instantly. Save 1000 LP on
Soul Charge. Why not? The monster you summon has
its effect negated, but so what? Most Gustos
activate in the graveyard anyway, so there's no real
loss.
As someone who has played Gustos for a while but
then abandoned them for a while, I see Pilica as
very good support. The deck still has numerous
flaws, though, and is going to need a lot more than
just Pilica if it wants to be viable.
The deck type suffers from several weaknesses:
1) Your monsters have be destroyed in battle. This
makes them, in this format, slow. Ramming into the
opponent will make you incur too much damage and
isn't viable for some of them.
2) Searchers often miss their timing
3) The Psychic-type monsters are better than the
Winged-Beast-type monsters, making it a bit uneven.
4) There has to be some way to get these monsters
into the graveyard aside from battle. (Gustos need
a buffed-up Dragon Ravine)
Pilica, surprisingly, doesn't fix ANY of these
flaws. Then again, I can't expect one card to fix
the flaws.
However, it does function like a Wolfbark and a Junk
Synchron allowing you to get out another bird Gusto
in order to Synchro Summon a more powerful monster.
At LV3, Pilica can sync with Gulldo to make the
recently unbanned Goyo Guardian for example. You
have to wait a turn for non-WIND but you can always
Special it during your opponent's turn (e.g. a
searcher) and then sync. But this card nabs you a
free Gusto synchro at face value.
Another thing to note is that this card is not
necessarily just limited to Gustos. It also works
on any WIND-type monster. A hybrid combo in the
future is possible, though for now I see this being
used in strictly Gustos.

Pilica, Descendant of Gusto
Wrapping up this week we have Pilica, Descendant of
Gusto a new addition to the Gusto Archetype.
Statwise it is a WIND/Psychic which is quite common
for Gusto, with 1000 ATK and 1500 DEF both or
average for a level 3.
Effectwise, when this card is summoned you can
target and special summon a WIND Tuner from your
graveyard in DEF mode. This is always a good effect
even if the Tuner’s effect are negated but since you
brought back a Tuner you are planning to Synchro
Summon a WIND Synchro monster, that or a WIND Xyz
monsters since you can only special summon WIND
monsters. If you are using a pure Gusto build this
isn’t a problem and will get you any Gusto Tuner and
allow you to Synchro Summon all but 1 Daigusto
Synchro Monster, which is very good.
Overall, for Gustos this makes summoning their
Synchro monster easier and it can be used in
standard WIND Synchro decks as well, but this is
clearly designed to work the best with Gustos.

Pilica,
Descendant of Gusto
This card is a new Gusto support card from Primal
Origins, and for Gusto its just the shot in the arm
that they really needed.
Its Wind attributed is as per normal for all Gusto
monsters, and has the normal average low attack. For
Gusto's its Level of 3 is actually very handy...
Onto that in a minute.
And finally the fact that its Psychic means that you
could Special Summon this via Emergency Teleport if
you so desired, and considering that many Gusto's
are already Psychic this gives you more reason to
run E-Tele... If you aren't already of course.
Onto its effects, first: "When this card is Normal
or Special Summoned: You can target 1 WIND Tuner
monster in your Graveyard; Special Summon that
target in face-up Defense Position."
Certainly for a Deck that is so quick (normally) to
fill its Graveyard with Gusto monsters, (which are
all Wind) having a viable target is not going to be
problematic. The primary Targets for this effect are
Gusto Egul, Gusto Falco (if you even play it (or
just 1)) and most valuable, Gusto Gulldo.
That this effect works when you both Normal and
Special Summon it means that you can turn the Summon
of this card into a 1 card Synchro, Diagusto Spreez
being the most notable Summon.
And even better, if you already had another Gusto
monster on your side of the Field you could even end
up with 2 Diagusto Spreez!
Next part of the effect: "Its effects are negated."
Keep in mind while the card Summoned loses its on
field effects, cards sent to the Graveyard will
still get their effects, so for example if you were
using Gusto Gulldo to Synchro Summon with you'd then
still be able to Special Summon your Level 2 monster
from the Deck. So this part of the effect should
never cause you much of an issue.
"If you activated this effect, you cannot Special
Summon monsters for the rest of this turn, except
WIND monsters."
Since you should never be actually planning on
Summoning anything other than a Wind monster after
you use Pilica's effect anyhow, this isn't going to
cause you any problems either. This effect seems
like a big hurdle, but really its only (as I see it)
an effect that ensures that you'll almost always be
Summoning a Diagusto Synchro/ Xyz. Certainly there
are a few other targets that you may consider,
Leviair the Sea Dragon being one of those monsters
that on the rare occasion you may choose to Summon.
And a "Once per turn" clause added onto the end of
its card effect keeps this card balanced.
Pilica, Descendant of Gusto is most certainly going
to be a staple card in Gusto Decks, so get your
hands onto 3 of these because if you are planning on
playing Gusto's, this is going to be one of the best
cards in the Main Deck/ Deck in general.
Traditional: 1. (Not ever going to find place in
this environment).
Advanced: 4.5. (Note I'm giving this as a score
because of how well it boosts the Gusto Deck, as to
how well it'll effect the Deck for the Meta, I don't
expect it to make any sort of real impact. This said
they may be able to pinch a few more wins).

Hello Pojo Fans,
Won't be winning any battles with Pilica,
Descendant of Gusto (unless the opponents monster
can't handle 1000ATK), but she is meant to Synchro
and Xyz. Getting her effect off of Special Summoning
her in addition to Normal Summoning her lifts her
playability. Pilica can target a host of different
monsters that are Wind Tuners in your graveyard, and
though their effects get negated it isn't much of a
drawback. After her effect is activated, only Wind
monsters can be Special Summoned, but that still
means you can Normal Summon something else than a
Wind monster (if you didn't spend your Normal Summon
on her). She can be added to a Quickdraw-theme deck
for even more speed, or to a Plant deck to bring
back Spore and Copy Plant. She is a staple in Gusto,
Psychic, and Dragunity decks, able to be used
towards any Gusto and Dragunity Synchro, as well as
Stardust and Mist Worm. For Xyz, Pilica can make
Totem Bird or Leviair the turn she's summoned, and
if Special Summoned, that opens up the possibility
for even more choices. She's a +1 that can turn into
more depending on how you play her.
If you run a few Wind Tuner monsters, it may be
worth taking a look at Pilica.

Pilica, Descendant of Gusto
Pojoites, it's difficult to even concentrate cause
AP5 is spoiled and it's SOOOOOO beautiful..at least
in the foil department. If anyone gets them Yamatos/Dualities,
hook a brother up! Anyways now we see Pilica on the
Radar. Some local compadres and I were discussing
the applications of what Pilica could do and lo' and
behold, this happened
https://yugiohblog.konami.com/?p=18551#more-18551.
That's a feature match from this past weekends WCQ.
Pilica has a Debris Dragon/Black Salvo/Junk Synchron
style effect to special summon a WIND type Tuner out
of your graveyard. Unlike the 3 examples though, it
gets this effect when Special Summoned as well. Now,
how does one special summon a monster...obvious
answers include call of the haunted, but lets look
deeper, Pilica is a Psychic type, wasnt there some
quickplay spell that ... transports ... a monster
from the deck to the field, especial in times of ...
dire need?....I don't remember, but if such a card
were to exist it would not only thin your deck but
turn Pilica from a weak field presence into a mighty
synchro like Daigusto Sphreez just like the feature
match showed. While Pilica does have the drawback of
only allowing wind summons after it hits the field
and activates the effect, you can bring out anything
you want before it which can set up some beautiful
plays and maybe we'll see "Swagalicious", regardless
of the pilot, at future Regionals and YCS's.
Traditional 1.5/5
Advanced 3.25/5 - The WCQ proved anything can take
center stage even for one day, now it's up to all of
us to see what more can be done, and I do believe
more is absolutely possible :)
