Formula Synchron
This is a card that has now become Semi-Limited from
being Limited.
Firstly, it’s effect:
“When this card is Synchro Summoned: You can draw 1
card. During your opponent's Main Phase: You can
Synchro Summon using this face-up card you control
as a Synchro Material Monster.”
Additionally, to it being a Synchro monster it’s
also a Level 2 Tuner, Light Machine type with 200
ATK and 1500 DEF.
Being able to Draw a card upon successful Summon
of this card is certainly a great effect as this
helps to reduce or remove any costs involved for the
Summon of this card, this effect alone combined with
the fact that it’s a Tuner would be more than enough
to make this card playable. And this fact is what
makes it such a valuable asset in Synchrocentric
Decks, and is an extremely important card for Decks
who’s aim is to Summon Shooting Quasar Dragon.
However, Formula Synchron’s second effect is what
I find to be an extremely valuable effect as being
able to Synchro Summon during your opponents Main
Phase can open up such plays as Synchro Summoning
into Black Rose Dragon, or Synchro Summoning during
your opponents turn simply to fulfil the activation
requirement for Torrential Tribute, or Chaining to
an effect that Targets one of your monsters simply
so that you can avoid that card, even Summoning into
what could be essentially considered a “Beater” can
be more than enough to disrupt your opponents plays.
Creative use of this effect opens up huge potential
for you to disrupt your opponent and this is truly
an effect that I feel is under used, but then it is
also underused due to the fact that because of it’s
first effect, and because it’s a Tuner, Formula
Synchron generally is a stepping stone to further
plays and Summons during the turn that it is
Summoned.
Some monsters are also dependant on having a
Synchro Tuner in order to be able to Summon them,
namely Shooting Quasar Dragon and Shooting Star
Dragon so Formula Synchron becomes a highly
important card for these Decks, also Formula
Synchron may well see play in any Deck that cares to
run Synchro’s, and while this may not be that great
a number of Decks, undoubtedly it will be a great
boost.
Expect to see this card in anything from
Synchrocentric, Frog Monarchs/ Lancer to Chaos type
Decks, all which can benefit from this cards
increase in number.
Traditional: 3.5. The fact that this card becomes
relevant when Summoning a Shooting Quasar Dragon… Or
two, makes this card still very valuable even in
this format.
Advanced: 3.5. Although it does provide a boost
to a great many Decks, the reality is that the Decks
that this card will mostly see play in simply aren’t
going to make enough of an impact for this card to
truly shine. Plus, as most Decks don’t even play 1
Formula Synchron, this card being at 2 is not going
to change how much play it sees in general.
