Number 80:
Rhapsody in Berserk
First of all, a
friendly reminder to the COTD team. Explain the card
and its deeper strategies. Don't just copy-and-paste
it and then paraphrase it.
Onto the card.
Basically, just ignore the first effect: "equip to
XYZ and gain 1200 ATK effect". It's horrible because
its extremely situational. But don't the judge card
purely by that. Also, the stats of this card
0-ATK/1200-DEF are incredibly weak (and it would've
been nice if it were a solid 1900-ATK beater, but
don't judge it purely by that either.
The "detach to
banish" ability is what makes this card viable,
especially since you can use it twice on the same
turn it is summoned. You basically splash it in your
Extra Deck against graveyard-dependent decks just to
deny them capabilities of reviving monsters or
moving cards out of the graveyard to satisfy costs.
Okay, this begs the
question, why not just use the card Soul Release and
banish 5? Soul Release may be more powerful but you
have to draw into it. You may be able to side it in,
what if its on the bottom half of your deck? Being
that this card is an XYZ, you can bring it out at
nearly any time. This card's ease of use and
splashability really help.
Basic Math
The cost of 2 LV4
monsters puts you at -2. Since this monster has
really weak stats, I don't think it should be
counted as a card advantage. Maybe in the same sense
a single Scapegoat token is. So, let's say bringing
out this monster immediately puts you at -1.75
From here on out,
the advantage this card has depends on the
situation. If you can banish 2 graveyard floaters,
this card would be at a +.25. This of course assumes
the graveyard floaters you are banishing can
break-even or +1 themselves. For example, you want
to banish cards like Dandylion – not cards like
Necro Gardna.
Overall, it depends. This card could easily be a -2.
It could also be a break-even card that does more
than the sum of its parts.
Verdict
This is a very
meta-dependent card and its usage will depend on the
meta. I can see this card as a splashable XYZ to
handle graveyard-decks. But if graveyard decks ever
become big, I can easily see people running 2 or 3
of these out of necessity.
Not essential to
own, but nice to have. Get this card if you are able
to.
Ratings
Traditional
– 3 (Anything that doesn't help OTK/FTK/Lockdown
won't get above a 3 in this format. Plain and
simple. But it is a very graveyard heavy format and
you can banish Chaos food among other
graveyard-floaters)
Advanced
– 3.5 (A very good card overall. Of course its usage
will vary on numerous factors and the card advantage
factor is dynamic but it has potential due to its
speed and versatility.)
Mechanic
Design
– 3.5 (It's a little underpowered in some regards:
the stats and equip effect, for example. But this
card overall is balanced and takes skillful use to
plus out of.)
Art
– 3 (Generic cliche DHERO-like fighter though the
foil lettering is flattering.)
