Sylvan Sagequoia
- #PRIO-EN021 When a "Sylvan" monster is sent to the Graveyard (except during the Damage Step): You can Special Summon this card from your hand. Once per turn: You can excavate the top card of your Deck, and if it is a Plant-Type monster, send it to the Graveyard. Otherwise, place it on the bottom of your Deck. If this card is excavated from the Deck and sent to the Graveyard by a card effect: You can target 1 "Sylvan" Spell/Trap Card in your Graveyard; add that target to your hand.

Monday
Sylvan Sagequoia opens the week. A Level 7, Wind
attributed, Plant Monster, who has a very nice 2600
attack and 2100 defense. This is a wonderful card
and worthy of the two Tributes in its Deck, assuming
you actually are in a scenario you have to Tribute
for it. Save the Damage Step, when a Sylvan Monster
is sent to the Graveyard, you can Special Summon
this card from your Hand. Secondly, once per turn
you can excavate the top card of your Deck. If it's
a Plant, it goes to the Graveyard, which helps make
the Sylvan Deck run. If not, it goes to the bottom
of your Deck. Also, finally, if this card is
excavated from the Deck and sent to the Graveyard
via card effect, you get to add a Sylvan Magic or
Trap card from your Graveyard to your Hand. This
guy does a lot, various effects which all helps his
friends and his Deck. You play Sylvans, you play
this.

Hello Pojo Fans,
Sylvans start off this week with Sylvan Sagequoia.
This Wind, Level 7 Plant-Type Sylvan monster with
2600ATK/2100DEF. “When a "Sylvan" monster is sent to
the Graveyard (except during the Damage Step): You
can Special Summon this card from your hand. Once
per turn: You can excavate the top card of your
Deck, and if it is a Plant-Type monster, send it to
the Graveyard. Otherwise, place it on the bottom of
your Deck. If this card is excavated from the Deck
and sent to the Graveyard by a card effect: You can
target 1 "Sylvan" Spell/Trap Card in your Graveyard;
add that target to your hand.”
Special Summoning itself from the hand when a
“Sylvan” is sent to the Graveyard allows for easy
Special Summoning in a Sylvan Deck. Good attack and
defense stats, and being a level 7 offers some
ability for Sylvan players to go into Big Eye,
Dracossack, or Orea. When Sagequoia is excavated to
the Graveyard by a card effect you can target and
add a “Sylvan” spell/trap to your hand from your
grave. There are only three of those cards currently
out, but to get back the new draw power of Sylvan
Charity would be like flipping Magician of Faith
after using Graceful Charity for Sylvan players. The
“except during the Damage Step” limitation doesn't
hurt this card either, as there are plenty of ways
to get a Sylvan into the Graveyard. Dark Hole the
field, drop this guy, and strike for 2600 damage.
Combine Sagequoia with Mount Sylvania to Special
Summon Sagequoia, then pick whichever Sylvan from
your Deck you want to excavate with Sagequoia this
turn and put it on top of your Deck.
Traditional-4/5- All Sylvan cards, support cards,
and stuff like Graceful Charity and Painful Choice
Advanced-4/5- Too good not to play in a Sylvan deck.
This guy can leap out of your hand with ease.

Sylvan Sagequoia
Hermitree was once the big-gun of the deck but now
Sagequoia has supplanted it as the Sylvan deck's
go-to boss monster.
Haha!
Get it?
SupPLANTed.
Anyways...
Some builds are cutting back on Hermittree while
others find a way for the two big guys to co-exist,
but nonetheless, Sage establishes himself as the
better one with his "when excavated" effect actually
netting you a card rather than just repositioning
your deck like you can already do with Sylvan
Charity.
Hermitree does have a cool +1 draw effect if
it excavates successfully, but Hermit is more
situational than Sage since excavating a card is
easier than summoning it.
Being a LV7 material for the recently reviewed Orea,
another heavy-hitter in the deck, this card is not
summoned by tributing.
A playset of Miracle Fertilizer can help with
that, but this card's Special Summoning effect can
also help.
Other rank-7's like Draccosack and Big Eye
also help. It's
a capable beater at 2600 when needed.
By having a standard ignition excavation effect,
this card can work quickly.
When excavated, it nets you a +1.
My pick would usually be Sylvan Charity, but
regardless of what you pick, its one of the
strongest excavation effect in the deck.
All in all, a straight-forward but
well-rounded card that fuels the engine in numerous
regards.
Sylvan decks should run 3 copies of Sagequoia.

"You know what really grinds my gears? Go-gurt. I
mean, where does yogurt have to go all of a sudden?"
In my belly, that's where. Yeah, you think about
that. I thought about it after hearing it so many
times. I know strange people.
Hello, my little gingersnaps, and welcome to another
Terrorking review. Today we shall chop down a
plant—a Sylvan monster, to be more precise. Today is
Sylvan Sagequoia, bearer of a the terrible puns.
Yes, yes. This is the theme's second main deck boss,
and somewhat less cumbersome than the Hermitree. The
main thing that has going for it is being able to
summon itself. Really, if you're a main deck boss
that can't summon yourself, that's an instant strike
against you. The way you summon this is from your
hand when a Sylvan monster is sent to the Graveyard,
and it doesn't care from where. Right there this
means you can summon it when you're setting up (it
can miss the timing, so be careful of that), or
summon it defensively when your opponent overpowers
one of your monsters. I mean, that would've made
this card decent enough.
Next, when this card is sent from the deck to the
Graveyard, you get a Sylvan spell or trap from your
Graveyard back to your hand. What should be coming
to your head when you read that effect is "OH EM
GEE! I GET TO USE SYLVAN CHARITY AGAIN!" Yes, that's
what you'll be doing it: using it to get you your
Sylvan Charitys, but don't forget about Mount
Sylvania and Sylvan Blessing.
Now let's look at its level. It's 7, which is highly
relevant due to Sylvans being able to accommodate
the Dragon Rulers. and thus have access to
Dracossack, Big Eye and a card we looked at last
week, Sylvan High Arbiter. You can also have it feed
your Spore, turning it from level 1, to level 8,
which means you can tune it with the other Sylvan
boss, Hermitree, to make Rank 8s like Sylvan High
Protector and Helipolis. Furthermore, this being
level 7 gives you access to Level 8+ Synchro
monsters. There's just a lot of uses for this. Have
fun.

Traditional: 1/5
I've noticed my fellow reviewers giving "Mechanical
design" scores now, so I shall take a crack at it.
If you do not see me mentioning it when rating a
card, it means I'm not fond of it mechanically (just
like when I rate art) and don't see a point in
mentioning it.
Mechanical design (by Yu-Gi-Oh standards, of
course): 4/5. Missing the timing makes this card a
bit more intuitive, and its relevant typing and
attribute aid its playability perhaps more than its
effects (PERHAPS).
