Shifting from Artifact to Sylvan we come to a cute little critter in Sylvan Cherubsprout. Not much a glance, with only 100 attack and defense, which is all but irrelevant. This is obviously a Plant, oddly a Light attributed one, I like my Plants to be Earth or Wind. But I digress. When you Special Summon this card, you can choose to excavate one or two cards from the top of your Deck. If there are any Plants, they go to the Graveyard, and the other(s) go the bottom of your Deck in any order you choose. If this card is excavated from the Deck, and sent to the Graveyard via a card effect, you can Special Summon a Level 1 Plant Monster from your Deck. So it's a nifty little cycle that even gets to include itself. It adds speed, and while may not be great on it's own, certainly can work combos well. A great tutor.

Sylvan Cherubsprout

Cherubsprout is used for the cards it can bring out more than all by itself.  When its excavated, you bring out a LV1 monster.  Often times, this will be Spore (a staple of the Sylvan deck because it can literally get you any XYZ/Synchro monster you want in play).  But it helps search out Princessprout which allows you to tribute it for an excavation, though to be honest, I would rather have Princess in the deck so she can become a LV8 for Felgrand.

On Special Summon, you get a free excavation, so if you stack your deck right that's another +1 for Soul Charge.

I see no point in Cherub special summoning another copy of itself.  You really only need 1 Cherub in your deck and even then it comes down to personal taste more than viability.  So, this card is not as useful as the other Sylvans: Hermitree, Marshalleaf, Kumushroom, and Sagequoia.  But if you have room to splash in a copy of Cherub, go ahead.

Welcome, youngins, welcome to Terrorking's review of Sylvan Cherubsprout. I'm gonna be frank here, not that I usually am not, but this card is not very reliable and you really should not be using more than 1 on the off chance you get it off. When Special Summoned (yes, Special Summoned ONLY), it lets you excavate 1 or 2 cards. When you excavate it, you can special summon a Level 1 Plant (Spore, Copy Plant, Sylvans' own stuff, another copy of this [which you won't, since I just told you to only use 1 copy]). This is a combo-reliant card, but when it goes off you get to make a big play: Synchro, Xyz, tribute fodder for the big Sylvans—multiple plays. Getting monsters from directly out of the deck is almost never a bad thing.

Sylvan Cherubsprout

When I first got my hand on a copy of this from the LVAL Special, I wished it was the Bujin card instead. Obviously you can't just look at an effect monster and determine its worth via its stats, because Cherubsprout is amongst the weakest of the weak at 100 atk and defense. The effect however, isn't horribly omg shoot me bad, but it's not really mediocre either. It get's special summoned, excavate 1 or 2. If IT get's excavated, you can special summon a level 1 plant from the deck. If you're running a typical Sylvan deck, that means you have a couple possible targets.

1) Spore - Best plant tuner in the game currently legal
2) Copy Plant - Immediate Rank 7 or 8 Xyz if you have Sagequoia or Hermitree out
or 3) Princesssprout, the occasional replacement for Copy Plant
the only real possible 4th is another Cherubsprout which of course means the effect would trigger but the obvious drawback is you'd be running 2 copies of Cherubsprout...

Sylvan Cherubsprout

From Artifacts to more plants as we look at Sylvan Cherubsprout. Stawise it is a LIGHT/Plant and strange combination but I guess plants absorb light and something. It has 100 ATK and DEF but since it is a level 1 it was never going to have massive stats.

Effectwise if this card is Special Summoned you can choose either one or two and excavate that many cards and any plants go to the grave. The fact that is can only be used when it is special summoned isn’t great but the choice is nice. The second effect is when this card is excavated from the Deck to the grave; you can Special Summon a Level 1 Plant from your deck, but you can only use this effect once per turn. Clearly this effect wants you to special summon one of these use you can excavated cards but the fact it has to be a level 1 Plant is quite restrictive and this monster’s first effect isn’t really worth it.

Overall, there are way better plants and Sylvans out there, play them instead.

Sylvan Cherubsprout is definitely a decent addition to the Sylvan archetype, though mostly for plays that it enables. When Sylvan Cherubsprout is excavated and sent to the graveyard, you can Special Summon a Level 1 Plant from your deck. This enables plays with Copy Plant and the TCG-exclusive Sylvan Princessprout, allowing Sylvans to make much more consistent XYZ plays.

Princessprout is especially effective with Cherubsprout as once she is Special Summoned, she can tribute herself to excavate one and then stack herself to the top of the deck. After she is stacked on top of the deck, if she is excavated she will Special Summon herself as any Level from 1 through 8.

So that means with Princessprout in deck, a single excavation of Cherubsprout will give you one excavated card as well as a stacked Princessprout. From there another excavation will allow her to be Special Summoned at any Level from 1 - 8, potentially giving you access to a high Rank XYZ.

With Sagequoia, you can drop Orea, the Sylvan High Arbiter, Number 11: Big Eye or Mecha Phantom Beast Dracossack.

With Hermitree, you can drop Alsei, the Sylvan High Protector or Divine Dragon Knight Felgrand.

Unfortunately, Cherubsprout will only activate to Special Summon Princessprout when it is excavated, making it a fairly bad card to draw. However, Sylvans thankfully also received Sylvan Charity which actually makes it quite easy to set up a Cerubsprout play if you do actually draw one.

Sadly, a lot of Cherubsprout’s playability is reliant on the cards he interacts with, which is not too surprising in a deck like Sylvans. However, due to how powerful Princessprout plays can be, he is usually teched at one in most TCG Sylvan builds to act as a searcher for her.

Advanced: 3.5/5 (It’s a solid searcher which earns it a spot in most Sylvan decks, but it doesn’t have a ton of utility on its own.)

Sylvan Cherubsprout isn't going to be very useful protecting you with its low stats, its sole reason for being in the Sylvan deck is, aside from it begin able to excavate either 1 or 2 cards when it is Special Summoned, if you excavate Sylvan Cherubsprout, you can Special Summon 1 Level 1 Plant-Type from your deck. There are a host of monsters that would be in a Sylvan deck that would benefit from this effect: Another Sylvan Cherubsprout, Sylvan Princessprout, Spore, and Copy Plant are all available targets for Cherubsprout. Excavating 1 or 2 cards (likely 2) with Cherubsprout can set up plays with other Sylvan monsters, but Special Summoning from your deck can create bigger plays. You likely won't be running more than two of Cherubsprout in the Sylvan deck.
