Pojo's Yu-Gi-Oh! Card of the Day
Daily Since 2002!

Number 69: Heraldry Crest or Horror
- #LVAL-EN049

4 Level 5 monsters When an opponent's monster declares an attack: You can destroy all cards your opponent controls. If this card has "Number 69: Heraldry Crest" as an Xyz Material, it gains this effect. ● Once per turn: You can detach 1 Xyz Material from this card, then target 1 face-up Xyz Monster your opponent controls; this card gains ATK equal to that face-up monster's original ATK, and if it gains ATK this way, this card's name becomes that monster's, and it gains that monster's original effect. These effects last until the End Phase.

Number 69: Heraldry Crest is a great XYZ Monster. Is it's Chaos Counterpart? Having said that, C69: Heraldry Crest of Horror is just that...horror, in a number of ways. This strikes me as one of those "If you're able to Summon me you should win the game" cards. This is a Light attributed, Psychic type, Rank 5 XYZ Monster, with an absurd 4000 attack and 1800 defense. Anything with an attack of 4000 is worth looking at, even if it takes FOUR Level 5 Monsters to XYZ Summon. Three would have sufficed I think, but likely a precautionary measure against an incredibly powerful card with an equally powerful effect. The first effect is good, while able to be loopholed around. When your opponent declares an attack, you can destroy ALL cards your opponent controls. Your opponent isn't likely to walk into that, so be prepared to negate whatever they're using to negate this cards effect. (Following me?) Also, as is Chaos fashion for XYZ, an additional effect similar to the original non Chaos form is applied if the original is equipped as an XYZ. Honestly, this guy needs his own Deck to function, assuming such a thing is possible at all. Might be more of a fun Deck, but could work out if you can keep him on the Field a turn or two.

Number C69: Heraldry Crest of Horror

With rank-up magic cards and other gimmicks due to come out in future sets, this card may not be nearly as difficult to summon as it lets on.  If you do need to use 4 LV5 monsters to summon it, it's totally not worth it (at the slightest).  But it wouldn't be a bad card if it is made possible to summon.

4000 ATK is nice, but it's still just as succeptible to Bottomless Trap Hole and such as most other XYZ's are.  Stat boosting effects are nice, but brute force alone does not make a good card.

Worst of all, it's removal effect is passive - not active.

Your opponent can avoid it by using basic removal instead.  And do you really think someone will declare an attack when their opponent has such a powerful monster on the field anyway?

Rank Up is a mechanic I, and most other people that don't care for the Zezzle anime, find to be poorly-done. I won't go into why, but for the most part it's pretty unwieldy. Today we look at one of the less unwieldy ones: Heraldry guy.

Now, as far as Psychic type Xyz go, you're not likely to see too many of those. But do remember that the best, or one of the best, Rank-Up cards is Rank-Up Magic: Limited Barian's Force. With that card you can turn any Rank 4 monster into a Rank 5 "Number C" monster. Heraldry Crest of Horror is a Number C. Now normally when you don't "properly" Rank Up, your "C" monsters don't get their effects, or get really subpar ones. Not the case with this one. Regardless of what you use to summon him, whenever your opponent attacks all of their monsters get wiped out. That's pretty good, but then this went the extra mile by having a very good 4000 ATK. If you're using Herladry, you can Rank Up all the Xyzes with the other Rank Up spells, so there's that.

Advanced: 3/5. Decent enough utility, but being a Rank-Up monster bogs it down immensely.
Traditional: 1/5
