Dust Tornado is an interesting card. More to say here than yesterday. It's an OLD card, one that seems to either be played by everyone, or no one. A Normal Trap, so not quite as easy as a Quickplay like yesterday to be used, but still very good. For the immediate plus, it lets you destroy any Magic or Trap card on your opponent's side of the Field. Face-up or face-down, and it doesn't require a cost. Not that I'm holding the 500 Lifepoint cost of Twister against it, I'm just saying. For an added bonus, it has the second effect of being able to Set a Magic or Trap card from your Hand. Where Twister is primarily a side-deck card, Dust Tornado certainly has a spot in the Main Deck. Even with the three Mystical Space Typhoon, I wouldn't at all fault anyone for still playing one of these. Or still taking the time to side a couple. Dust Tornado play is low at the moment, but we see something like MST go back to 1 or get Banned, this will become hot again. It always finds a way to stick around.

Dust Tornado
Normal Trap
Target 1 Spell/Trap Card your opponent controls; destroy that target, then you can Set 1 Spell/Trap Card from your hand.

Wrapping up this week, we have another Mystical Space Typhoon Wannabe; in this case a card that is nearly as old as MST; Dust Tornado.

Dust Tornado is a Normal Trap; that allows you to target and destroy a Spell/Trap card the opponent controls and if you do you can set 1 Spell/Trap from your hand. The first part of the effect is the main one and it is a good one, apart from the fact that it has to be an opponent’s card it has no conditions and 95% of the time you are going to be destroying your opponent’s back row and not your own.

The second effect while nice isn’t all that useful, chances are you would have already set any Spell/Traps you would have wanted to on your own turn, and even if you did set a card, you wouldn’t be able to use it until your next turn anyways. Still it is a nice effect to have just in case. Of course being a trap card it is slower than MST.

Overall, while not as good as MST (but few spell/trap destruction cards are), this is still a good card.

Hello Pojo Fans,

Hope everyone has a great Friday. We're finishing up the week with an old card, but one that could still see a lot of use: Dust Tornado. A Normal Trap Card, Dust Tornado destroys one Spell/Trap Card on your opponents side of the field, if you destroy that card, you can set one Spell/Trap Card of your own.

Much like yesterday's CoTD: Twister, this card is a lesser version of Mystical Space Typhoon. Being a Trap Card, you have to set it and wait to activate, that's a downer. It's a one-for-one trade, then, if you choose, you can set a spell/trap from your hand. You won't be able to activate the card this turn. If Dust Tornado had the special effect of allowing you the ability to activate the card you set with its effect the turn you set it, then Dust Tornado wouldn't be unlimited. Any spell/trap your opponent controls is up for being targeted, and you can chain it to drop the attack of an opponents monster that is powered up by a face-up card, but Dust Tornado, like Twister, can't beat out MST.

Dust Tornado

This card came out in 2002 from the set Pharaoh's Servant.  It was reviewed on Pojo three times since its release but has not been reviewed at all since 2006.  So, let's have a modern take on it. The nostalgia, though.  I pulled it in one of my first packs. The super-rare Dust Tornado was a great option for those who couldn't afford the ultra-rare Mystical Space Typhoon.

Speaking of which, with Twister, I already refuted the erroneous mentality of "MST is at 3. Therefore all other Spell/Trap removal is crap." Dust Tornado runs very much along the same lines.

Just because MST is better, doesn't mean this card should be forgotten. Like I said, with cards like Necrovalley, Tenki and Madolche Chateau being the new backbone of modern decks, you need all of the spell/trap removal you can get.

It goes without saying that you shouldn't run Dust Tornado in the main deck unless you are already using 3 MST in the main deck and feel like you want more spell/trap removal.

It's largely the same context as Twister. But here's the difference. Twister is faster, but Dust Tornado is more versatile. DT can destroy Set spell/traps to clear away cards like Mirror Force and Bottomless Trap Hole. Twister cannot do this.

But Twister has the advantage of being able to activate during your own turn. So if Skill Drain or something is choking your deck, you can activate Twister as soon as you draw it and make an offensive push. Rather than waiting a turn, letting your opponent play more cards and attack you before you can launch your offensive.

It's a matter of personal taste though. Some may prefer Twister's speed. Others may prefer Dust's reliability. Me, I prefer Twister, but Dust Tornado should not be slept on either. It's totally your preference but be sure to have at least one of these.

If you're not using 2 Twister in your side deck, then definitely use 2 Dust Tornado instead. Or you might want to split 1 and 1 on both.

I would recommend having at least 2 copies of Dust Tornado in your collection.

Traditional: 1.5/5 (format doesn't rely as much on continuous cards)

Advanced: 3.5/5 (consider this for your side deck)

3.5/5 (simple, but i like the blue color. Looks great as a holo)

Terrorking

Like yesterday, we come to yet another side deck card: Dust Tornado. I know, I know, you're already rolling your eyes, but bear with me. Let's go catch some salmon and hibernate... I did ask you to BEAR with me, after all. Yes, yes, terrible pun, I know. Not even a pun, just a really bad joke. I apologize yet again.

This card, in exchange for hitting Spells and Traps regardless of their position, is a Trap Card and must be set. For that reason, most players don't bother with it. It has a secondary effect of letting you set a card from your hand, but that comes up so seldom that it might as well not be there. That's really all there is to be said about Dust Tornado. If you're really paranoid about backrow, keep a copy in your extra deck.

Your fact this day: Changing another country's weather is considered a war crime under the Geneva Convention of 1976.
