Solemn Scolding
- #NECH-EN079 If this is the only Set card in your Spell & Trap Zone, when a monster would be Summoned, OR a Spell Card, Trap Card, or monster effect is activated: Pay 3000 LP; negate the Summon or activation, and if you do, destroy that card.

Could this be "The Solemn
Cycle"? It took years since debut until the
original Solemn Judgment saw a lot of play. To
be fair, it was one of the few cards that benefited
from power creep. When Solemn Warning came
out, people were skeptical of that card too.
Was a summon really worth 2000 LP? But then,
it got used more and more until it had be limited to
2 (and eventually 1). And people are skeptical
of Solemn Scolding now, so it may very well be
vindicated too.
This is definitely a sequel to
Solemn Judgment, except instead of paying half of
your life points to negate 99.9% of the cards in the
game you pay 3000. This is a fair cost early
game, but mid to late game, it will put you in a
position where you can die from one attack. Or
you'll have <3000 LP and this card will be
unusable. There are other things plaguing this
card too. It needs to be the only set
Spell/Trap you control. Yes, lots of players
will be using the strategy of setting a chainable
quick-play/trap that can get itself out of the way
for Scolding, but at the same time, Scolding goes
against the deck types that Judgment propelled.
Judgment was usually used to protect large setups
with 2-3 other face-down traps. Paying a lot
of life points and then having your field wide open
is a problem. Also, with Solemn Warning
already used and Soul Charge still played a lot, to
many players, Scolding will simply not be worth the
3000 LP cost.
I've been a bit pessimistic but
this card has overall potential. It's only
1000 LP more than Warning yet its capable of worlds
more. It just needs to find a meta that can
accommodate it, and it's not be this coming NECH
meta. But it will find its place eventually.
Traditional - 1
Advanced - 2.5 (this card
could very well be a 3.5 or 4 in the future, but i
have to rate it for what it is right now)

Solemn Scolding
This is another card whos true potential will
shine in February. Currently this card has no play
for Shaddolls or Qliphort. This will be a major card
in Nekroz due to not needing a large amount of
backrow. This card gives massive control to an
already powerful deck!

The Solemn Family is growing...which is a
contradiction in itself. Judgement,
Banned...Warning, Restricted...Scolding...well let's
see. I greatly suspect I'm going to be the
unpopular opinion here, and I am kinda slamming this
card. But here's what I see...restricted in
action right off the bat. But bigger than
that, it's the only Set card you can have in your
back row, if you hope to activate it. However,
let's assume, if only for the sake of argument, that
it is, and you can. When a Monster would be
Summoned (in any way, from any where, so versatility
is good here, as you might expect with a Solemn
card), or when a Magic, Monster, or Trap effect is
activated, you can negate said effect (or destroy
said Monster) by paying 3000 Lifepoints. If
successful, said card is destroyed.
Here are my problems...Warning is Restricted because
despite a price of 2000 Lifepoints (25% of your
TOTAL) was deemed a necessary and justified cost,
because of what it could do. As was Judgement
of course. It's a late game gem, where the
price of half could be next to squat, and wing you a
game. Here, the 3000 Lifepoints is just too
much. I can't see you using this if you have
less than 6000 or you're crippling yourself, and if
you're willing to pay that kind of a price, you're
too desperate and far gone as is. Plus, not to
mention if it gets negated itself, you're down a
card, plus all those Lifepoints. It's
versatile, but plenty of other cards across the
spectrum can do more, better, and/or for less.

Solemn Scolding
At a quick glance, this card actually seems as
though it could almost be an easy fit into your
Deck… After all it essentially is (effect wise)
Solemn Judgment, and with the added bonus of being
able to Negate the activation of an Effect monsters
effect.
I don’t think I need to be one to tell you how good
it is in this regard, after all, Solemn Judgment was
considered to be a Staple in almost every Deck while
it was legal at 1.
Even the cost to activate this card, an entire 3000
of your Lifepoints, while steep is still pretty
reasonable as long as the card is activated early on
in the Game. The biggest issue here is that
obviously you won’t be able to activate it all the
time making it a bad top deck card and most likely
you would only ever be able to use 2 of this card
during a Duel also.
Balance wise, that’s not really a bad thing. I say
“Balance wise” with this card, since a set cost
doesn’t cause the same issues that Solemn Judgment
had, especially since it could always be used
regardless of your Lifepoint situation.
Now for the worst part about this card… You can only
activate it if it is the only set card in your Spell
and Trap card zone, and this means that you won’t be
able to activate it purely as a response to
something. Of course if you were to activate this
card at the end of a Chain… After other Set cards on
your side of the field have been activated, you can
dodge this inconvenient issue. Other Spell or Trap
cards that you have face-up don’t prevent you from
activating this card, so it can be used alongside
continuous or equip cards without issue.
What really holds this card back is not just the
fact that it has an annoying activation requirement
but that it’s set cost is 3000 Lifepoints, and that
3000 Lifepoints makes it potentially unusable or at
the very least something that eats up a massive
chunk of your Lifepoints.
Traditional: 1. Don’t know why you would play this
here… After all, Solemn Judgment if your first
choice if you require a Counter Trap anyhow.
Advanced: 2.5. Has potential to be really good, but
because of it’s drawbacks, I expect this to see only
small amounts of play.

Solemn Scolding
Next up we have Solemn Scolding, a new counter trap
to add to the Solemn series of Counter traps.
Solemn Scolding is trying to be a balanced version
of the classic Solemn Judgement, and by balanced I
mean awful. Yes Solemn Judgement is currently banned
and it is slightly more powerful since it does also
negate monster effects but this is no way a
replacement. The condition is awful, as this card be
the only Set card you control, granted you can have
face up cards but it is still leaves you vulnerable
if this card just fail. Also 3000 LP as a cost is
way too high, especially on a card with an awful
condition and other cards can do similar effects but
cheaper.
Overall, an awful condition and an overly expensive
cost makes this a really bad card. Whoever designed
this card ot approved its creation needs a Solemn
Scolding.

Hello Pojo Fans,
Players have been waiting for a new “Solemn” card to
come out to replace their Judgment, and now they
have it with Solemn Scolding. Different variation on
the artwork, but this Counter Trap is parallel to
it's predecessor. If the opponent activates
anything, pay 3000LP to negate and destroy it. There
is one catch though: this card has to be the only
set s/t you have on the field. While you can have
another set s/t and, through chaining still be able
to activate this card, it's much easier just to set
this and negate whatever your opponent tries to
throw at you
Leaving this as the only card in your s/t zone set
makes it an easy target for s/t destruction. Because
of its restriction, Scolding is best played
tactfully. If you know a big play is coming from
your opponent, set this card and stop their move.
The other downside is the cost. 3000LP is a pretty
big cost. 2000LP from Solemn Warning was decently
big, but it was manageable. If you fall below 3000LP
then this card is nothing but a card that could be
used as a bluff, hopeful to take up an opponents
resource. Though it has the 3000LP cost and the
restriction to it having to be the only set s/t you
control, this card is a must to all duelist to have
at least at their disposal. Test it out, see if it
suits your deck, then go from there.
Traditional-3/5- Solemn Judgment can be activated at
any time, so it's better
Advanced-4/5- No Judgment means this card is more
playable
