A blast from the past last reviewed by Pojo in
07. Back then it was used to handle Gadgets,
Monarchs and sometimes Breaker the Magical Warrior.
It was far from a staple, but it was quality tech.
That describes it well today. Since then, though, it
has been largely neglected but its made somewhat of
a comeback recently since Satellarknights, Shaddolls
and Burning Abyss (all tier 1) have monsters with
effects that could trigger this trap.
It doesn't work on Special Summons and it doesn't
work on ignition or continuous effects. This makes
it difficult to main. On the flip-side, it's a
Counter Trap so its immune to Trap Stun and other
things that could be chained. Compared to other
effect negation it kills the monster instantly. So
Deneb can't be alive as Stellarnova Alpha fodder,
Mathematician won't plus and the monster in general
isn't able to be XYZ'd or Synchro'd.
It's a really focused kind of negation/removal. I'd
still say Effect Veiler, Breakthrough Skill and
Fiendish Chain are overall better due to their sheer
versatility, but Pulling the Rug is still a good
side deck choice depending on the meta. Yes, it's a
card that will rise and fall as formats change, but
it's still a worthy addition to your collection.

Pulling the Rug
Back in previous formats this was a power house
for siding against monarchs and gadgets. Currently
this card has rotated out of favor for more powerful
cards. Trigger effects on normal summon have also
fallen out of favor.

Pulling the Rug
I remember this card in the days back when Gadgets
were BIG and this was actually a really good card
against them. But then Normal Summoning was far more
important that it is now.
That said, Normal Summons are what really gets some
Decks ticking, and disrupting them can change the
outcome of entire games.
While it is only useful against effects that
activate when a monster is Normal Summoned, this is
incredibly useful against Satellarknight’s, Monarchs
the aforementioned Gadgents and of course Tour Guide
From the Underworld. Also cards thought about to a
lesser degree such as Junk Synchron, Deep Sea Diva
or Breaker the Magical Warrior fall to this card as
well.
This cards real power exists not only with the fact
that it’s costless to activate, but that it is also
a Counter Trap card, sadly it’s biggest weakness is
that it can only be activated during a specific
time, and is thus not Chainable.
Still, it’s an extremely valid Side Deck card,
primarily for use against Burning Abyss and
Satellarknights, and if able to be used against
those Decks early game it can prevent them from
getting a start.
Traditional: 1.25. If you go first and your opponent
needs a successful Normal Summon to get going this
could be useful… Truly though, I would be avoiding
it here.
Advanced: 3. Situational and a bad top deck as well
as only truly useful against a few Decks. Still,
worthy of being used in the Side Deck as an
additional “Hate” card, and may be able to really
slow an opponent down from beginning otherwise
explosive plays.

Pulling the RugCounter Trap
It’s twofer Thursday and one of the cards isn’t a
card from The New Challengers, instead it was
released in Strike of Neos way back in 2007.
Back in 2007 no-one cared about Pulling the Rug,
however as with other old cards it is starting to
see a bit of a boost thanks to recent decks. Pulling
the Rug effect is simple it negates the activation
and effect of any Effect Monster whose effect
activates when any monster is Normal Summoned and
then destroys said monster.
This effect didn’t mean much back in 2007 when
everyone was fusion summoning Cyber Dragons and
Elemental Heroes but with decks like Monarchs,
Tellarknights, Gadgets, etc; Normal Summoning has
become more popular. Of course this isn’t useful
against other decks like Lightsworn or Shaddolls, so
this is clearly a Side Deck Card and a solid one at
that.
Overall a solid Side deck card against the likes of
Monarchs and Tellarknights, especially if you use it
on a mandatory effect.

Hello, Pojoers, and I deeply
apologize I haven't been as active as I would liked
to have been. But here, we have a card that has seen
a resurgence of play, and for good reason.
"Negate the activation and
effect of an Effect Monster whose effect activated
when a monster was Normal Summoned (even itself),
and destroy that Effect Monster."
Looking at the card, it has a
lot going for it. Counter Trap means the opponent
would have to activate Trap Stun preemptively.
Wiretap and the likes are the only ways to negate
this.
It is a really fantastic card
currently, hitting quite a few of the cards relevant
these days. These are, but are not limited to: every
Satellarknight Monster, Mathematician, Tour Guide
from the Underworld, Qliphort Disk, and every
Monarch. Although its main use will be negating
Monsters like this, it does negate any Monster
effect activated on a normal summon, not just the
Monster's. This isn't going to come up often though,
but King Tiger Wanghu comes to mind, so use that as
a reference point.
Overall, a phenomenal card, but
most definitely relegated to the sideboard.
