Puppet Plant

People have a propensity to neglect commons in favor of holos.  This is why Pojo hasn't reviewed this card back 5+ years ago when it came out, but its getting some shine now.  This card was brought to attention when competitive player and ARG writer Patrick Hoban topped a major tournament with 2 of these in his deck.

He knew that Warriors (like Satellarknights) and Spellcasters (like Shaddolls) were prominent in this DUEA meta so he ran it.  So, Puppet Plant, being restricted to those types isn't for every meta, but it will rise and fall perennially.  The flaw is that you might face decks which don't use those two types but if you know the meta, things will be good.

Taking control of a monster gives you more freedom than merely destroying it.  You can tribute it to get around many graveyard effects.  You can go aggro and attack directly.  It's fast and without cost.  It's a monster effect that requires no normal summon.  It's good stuff.  Side it when needed, and if you have some guts, main it like Hoban.

Puppet Plant

This is one of the oldest solution to Spellcasters. Ditch and take an opponents Warrior or Spellcaster for free. An ok side deck card against Tellarknights and Shaddolls.

T-REX Puppet Plant

Last time this card was being used was when Six Samurai’s were played, now it has become equally viable since it allows you to take control of not just Warriors, but Spellcasters as well.

This means that it can be used against Stellarknights, Shaddoll’s and even Burning Abyss… All Tier Decks!
Although it can only be used during your own turn (Main Phase 1 or 2), the fact that it can be used against so many Decks currently is a huge redeeming factor.

Essentially you use this card like you would Change of Heart and use it to clear the way for an attack for game, Tribute that monster, Synchro with it or use it to overlay with. Basically it all depends on what purpose serves you best.

While this card is back in favour again, how good/ effective it is fully depends on the current Meta. Currently the Meta is favourable for this card to be quite good.

Traditional: 1. There are simply so many better options here that Puppet Plant looks second rate.

Advanced: 3.25. Not good against everything, so this means that it’s generally only found in the Side Deck. That it is strong against the current Tier Decks means that it should be strongly considered by anyone planning on being competitive.

Wrapping up this week we look at Puppet Plant, a card that was first released in Strike of Neos but until now we never reviewed before.
Statwise Puppet Plant  is a quite average level 3 EARTH/Plant but this card will never be hitting the field, so it really doesn’t matter.

Puppet Plant’s effect is where thinks get interesting; by discarding it from your hand to the Graveyard, you can target and control an opponent’s Warrior or Spellcaster until the end of the turn. Barring the type condition, there is not other condition on the brainwashed monster which makes this really useful.

Also Puppet Plant happens to target two of the most common types in the game and can be used against a variety of decks; Shaddolls,  Lightsworns, Six Samurai, Elemental Heroes; Prophecy, etc. Of course this isn’t any good if your opponent doesn’t play any Warriors or Spellcasters and its stats don’t make it worth playing if they don’t.

Overall, a possible side card especially with a lot of the good brainwashing cards still banned.

Hello Pojo Fans,

Rounding out the week we've got Puppet Plant. This card has come and gone in Side Decks throughout Yu-Gi-Oh as the format changes. A 1 for 1 until the End Phase, you can ditch Puppet Plant to take control of one of your opponents Spellcaster or Warrior monsters. With the dominant two decks so far being Shaddoll and Satellarknight, Puppet Plant should see a resurgence. In a top-decking situation this could be the difference between winning and losing. The options for Puppet Plant aren't only to take control of one of your opponents monsters and attack with them, there are obvious combos. Synchro, Xyz, or tribute the monster before the End Phase to make sure your opponent won't be getting it back.

You can only use Puppet Plant during your turn, which limits the potential this card has. Also, if you are unable to discard to the grave due to a card effect, this card won't be very useful until you are able to. If you come into a situation where using Puppet Plant as a discard from your hand, you have the option to use its 1000ATK and go after their life points.

Puppet Plant will be back in Side Decks, and possibly in 3's. It is a great mirror match card.
