Superheavy Samurai Big Benkei
In short, you keep it in DEF mode and its a 3500 defense wall.
During your turn, it attacks in Defense
Position much like Total Defense Shogun.
But when it does attack it has a whopping
3500 ATK.
Its ATK may as well have been 3500, except the fact that its
original ATK is 1000 makes it work with other card
effects a bit differently.
So, while Limiter Removal won't work on this
big guy, the trap card known as "D2 Shield" will,
and it will incur a scary extra 3500 damage onto
your opponent.
I've been Big Benkei used in Machina/Gadget decks.
It has more than enough stars to be a discard
for Machina Fortress, and you can summon this card
for free with the Continuous Spell Card called
Machina Armored Unit.
You can use Giant Rat to pull a 3500 beater ;
not bad.
As for the merit of the Superheavy Samurai archetype itself, it
doesn't have a ton going for it.
Blue Brawler is 2000 DEF wall that can't be
destroyed in battle.
Swordsman is an 1800 defense wall that drops
your opponent's monsters ATK to zero when battling
cards such as this.
So, yeah, there are some combos.
This card won't ever be competitive, but it
could totally win in locals.
Assessments
Power – 3 ; Very very powerful in the conventional sense.
Brawn aside, it is a little bit lacking.
Versatility – 3/5 ; High-ATK
monsters (that aren't a nightmare to summon) are
rarely not useful.
Dependability –
2/5 ; Needs other cards to combo with it.
Not a great draw opening hand.
Card Advantage –
3/5 ; Massive floater can get over anything ; they
will need to use removal on this.
Speed – 2/5 ; This card isn't hard to crank out but it will generally
take a turn.
Ratings
Traditional – 1/5
Advanced – 2.5/5
