The Traveler and the Burning Abyss

Of the five Burning Abyss (BA) cards, this is the worst of them.  Do I think it's a horribly bad card?  No.  In fact, it might even be a little underrated.  But it's not as good as other trap cards that are available.  Lots of Burning Abyss decks are using cards like Karma Cut and Phoenix Wing Wind Blast since the BA monsters replenish the cost by activating their effects.

So, basically Traveler and the Burning Abyss revives the amount of BA's sent to the graveyard this turn.  Usually, that would be 1 or 2.  Rarely 3 or more.

Maybe this card could work and if you have the space, and the willingness to be a bit different from the rest, you can try this card.  But don't run any more than one of these.  Most Burning Abyss players avoid this card outright, though, and do so with good reason.

Most of the time, all this card really is is a less versatile Call of the Haunted.

Again, I can't say its a "bad" card, but it doesn't do anything extremely important either.  In time, it will probably be a good card when there are more combos for the deck in future sets.  For now, ehhh....

Assessments

Power – 3/5 ; This can create a defense wall, help you XYZ, and up your field presence.  It also can help you swarm.  But the other aspects of the card make it suffer.

Versatility – 2/5 ; Unless you discard something you want to bring back, there's not much to do with this card.

Dependability – 2/5 ; This card is really situational.  You need to have BA's sent to the graveyard and you need to have set it for a turn.  This is like a weaker version of Rekindling.

Card Advantage – 2/5 ; It's a chainable card (later in the turn) that can net you 1 or 2 floaters.  You rarely plus out of it though.

Speed – 2/5 ; Traps are slow when it comes to Special Summoning.

Hello Pojo Fans,

Burning Abyss decks will be throwing open the gates several times over. The Traveler and the Burning Abyss does what Hysteric Party did for Harpies: mass swarm. Special Summon any number of “Burning Abyss” monsters sent to the grave the turn you activate Traveler. They may be Special Summoned in defense, and Traveler can only be activated once per turn, but that is still more than enough chance for you to mass Xyz, Synchro, or combo your Xyz's with “Rank-Up” cards to bring out higher ranks. “Burning Abyss” monsters may only be able to activate their effects once per turn, but this card isn't primarily about gaining effects off the monsters, it's about swarming. Xyz into Dante or any Rank 3, activate their effects, gain advantage, then activate Traveler and do it all over again. Not only will you plus off the effects of the “Burning Abyss” monsters the first time they are sent to the grave, but you will have a for sure plus off this card.

The only downsides to this card is that it is a Trap Card, and if you are in a top-decking situation this card will not be of much use to you, unless you are able to get some “Burning Abyss” monsters into the grave after setting the card.

The Traveler and the Burning Abyss has been one of those meh cards. You don't wanna open it in a pack, you'd never consider using it. However, personally once Virgil is released in NECH along with the BA Tuner, I think this is going to end up being an amazing card. For those who have passed over this card, allow me to remind you. During the turn you activate it you can special summon any BA monsters sent to the graveyard that turn. So if you synchro for Virgil, you can flip it, re-special, and overlay for Dante. Plus, Virgil alone is so amazing of a card, that you can set this as a backup so when Virgil dies, you can end phase return it to the field allowing for more plays off of it. It's also a normal trap vs continuous so it is chainable to MST and you will still special summon.

Traditional 1/5
Advanced 1.5/5 This is a current score. Right now with the limited number of Burning Abyss monsters we have, the card is limited in use. Come NECH, expect this score to change.

The Traveler and the Burning Abyss is a relatively simple Trap Card: upon activation, it will revive any number of Burning Abyss cards that were sent to the Graveyard that turn. The card has a lot of factors that really hold it back; for one, the fact that the cards have to be sent there that turn means you can’t really generate advantage out of it, as you have to give up the cards (or gamble and hope you mill them with Dante) to even revive them in the first place. Additionally, the card is almost entirely outclassed by Soul Charge, which does effectively the same thing and is less situational. Soul Charge isn’t even run in most Burning Abyss Decks due to the inability to make unbreakable boards with it.

Overall, this is a card to pass on. It’s a more situational version of a card that Burning Abyss can’t even make good use of, and doesn’t really help the Deck’s current strategy.

Review Notes:
This card doesn't hold a candle to soul charge. I understand it can be chainable but it lacks everything that soul charge brings to the table. Overall, I do not like this card at more then a 1 of.

Traditional: 1/5

Advanced 2/5
