Lord of the Red was the coolest thing Joey ever
did...EVER. It was so awesome, it almost made
that travesty of the Orichalcos arc worth watching.
Lord of the Red is a Ritual Monster, but he has a
LOT of things going for him. He's Fire,
which actually increases his playability, and being
Dragon, gives him plenty of support. He's not
technically in the Red Eyes family, but he works
well with them also. You specifically need Red
Eyes Transmigration to Ritual Summon this card, but
you can bring him out with all kinds of resources.
You're allowed to Tribute Monsters from your Hand or
Field and/or remove Red Eyes Monsters from your
Graveyard from play, so long as they total 8 or
more. He has the base Red Eyes stats (despite
being Level 8) of 2400-2100, but honestly, that's
probably the biggest downfall here. First,
once a turn, when a card or effect is activated, you
can target and destroy one Monster on the Field.
Secondly, also once a turn, given the same
circumstances, you can target a Magic or Trap on the
Field and destroy. Plus these effects can be
activated during either players' turn.
Circling back a moment, the 2400 attack is going to
be a bit of an issue, but with all that negation
built in, he could be on the Field a very long time.
I mean, yea, he doesn't negate any effects, which
does kinda stink, but he's still a good card.
Especially as far as rituals are concerned.

Lord of the Red
It requires the Ritual Spell
and a Ritual Monster to summon, making it inherently
situational, although being able to banish the cards
from graveyard in a deck type that has overall
gotten good support lately make it manageable.
Its effects of basically being able to destroy the
opponent's cards whenever they do anything are quite
good, although they do not negate effects.
While it punishes decks with a lot of face-up
Spells/Traps, it's still victim to a quick Raigeki,
Dark Hole or Bottomless Trap Hole. Definitely
better than most nostalgia support out there though.

Hello Pojo Fans,
Alongside Nekroz monsters, Lord of The Red
solidifies Ritual Decks return to popularity.
Advanced Ritual Art or Red Eyes Transmigration can
be used to Special Summon this guy, and he's
searchable by Manju or Senju. While it could have
higher ATK for a Level 8, its effects are what make
it a tremendous monster worth building a deck
around.
A +2 off of ANY card activation other than its own
effect is unheard of. Activate a draw card and get a
free monster kill and spell/trap kill for the turn.
Lord's effect happens either turn, giving you the
same destructive power if your opponent wants to
activate any card. The effects are Quick, meaning
you will resolve them before Lord of The Red is
destroyed (if it is being destroyed by something
like Raigeki) and the effects are optional, so you
don't need to kill something if it would backfire
against you.
Making Lord's ATK low was a way of balancing it out,
but this guy isn't very balanced as it is. Trade In
is possible, Red-Eyes support aids him, and he has
two easy ways of being Ritual Summoned. A first-turn
Lord spells disaster for your opponent and that can
happen rather easily.

So right from the start I have some problems with
this card. I'll start from the top. The name of the
card is Lord of the Red. Why isn't this a Red-Eyes
monster? It doesn't gain any of that new support
from the latest set. However, its ritual spell,
Red-Eyes Transmigration, does contain the correct
name. Next problem is that this is a Fire monster.
Red-Eyes cards have almost always been dark. This
was particularly good for chaos builds, but not Lord
of the Red. The last problem I have from the top is
the 8 star level. Advanced Ritual Art would have
been perfect with this card if it had been 7 stars.
Now in a Red-Eyes deck, you would need to run some
level 1 Normal monster. I know Red-Eyes
Transmigration tries to mitigate this problem by
letting you banish Red-Eyes monsters from your
graveyard, but that goes against what Red-Eyes
monsters want to do. It should have been sending
Red-Eyes monsters back to the deck to fit the
theme.
Ok, now that the rant is over, let's look at the
effect. The minimum 2 card requirement for summoning
this ritual Dragon monster is worth it. This effect
destroys cards. It targets those cards and destroys
them for free. Any card on the field. Activate
something on your turn and pop 1 Spell or Trap.
Activate something else on your turn and pop 1
Monster. It's fairly straight forward. You can
change the order of destruction and use your
opponent's activations to destroy their cards. The
effect is excellent.
Finally, I have one small problem with the stats of
the monster, 2400 atk and 2100 def. From Normal
Red-Eyes to this, it gains 100 def. Why? does one
star higher really only equal 100 def more?
Score: 2.5/5 The effect doesn't negate anything, but
the monster is ok.
Art: 4/5 Joey in armor looks cool.

Raise your hands if you saw this in the anime and
instantly wanted it. ….Okay, put your hands down.
Konami has finally granted your wish.
Another fun Joey card from the Orichalcos arc,
this is a Ritual card that could work for Red-Eyes
decks. And hey, there a thing now. Woo-hoo! Ahem,
anyway, Lord of the Red is a step up from Paladin of
White Dragon, because it's got Red-Eyes' ATK and DEF
stats, AND it can kill a monster or Spell.Trap card
once pet turn. Pretty impressive. The downside is,
it can only use this effect when another card's
effect comes into play. When your opponent uses an
MST or a Raigeki, you could still potentially pull
off an insta-kill, but you'd also be feeling the
effects of your opponent's activated card. So it's
sort of a 1 for 1 deal. Not bad, but unless you're
playing a full Red-Eyes deck, you might want to skip
this one.
Final Score: 4/5 for Red-Eyes decks; 2/5 for
other decks
