#5 - Galaxy Cyclone
- #CROS-EN062 Target 1 Set Spell/Trap Card on the field; destroy it. During your Main Phase, except the turn this card was sent to the Graveyard: You can banish this card from your Graveyard, then target 1 face-up Spell/Trap Card on the field; destroy it. You can only use this effect of "Galaxy Cyclone" once per turn.

Galaxy Cyclone is another quality Spell/Trap
removal added to the card pool. It's like
Night Beam and Nobleman of Extermination but instead
of precluding or banishing the set card it destroys,
it allows the player to get a 2-for-1 by also being
able to destroy a face-up Spell/Trap card. It
may not be too big of consequence anyway, as Vanity,
Warning, Torrential and soon-to-come Notice aren't
chainable. It's a neck to neck battle with
Mystical Space Typhoon as to which is the Spell/Trap
removal king. MST has the advantage of being
chainable (disrupting combos), being activated
during the Battle Phase and destroying a set card
during the opponent's turn (so they can't chain it
during yours), but it also runs the risk of getting
fried by removal when the opponent has no set cards
to chain it too.
On the plus side, Galaxy Cyclone gets the graveyard
effect for free if milled from the deck and can
somewhat compensate if its discarded. With
Pendulums around, it becomes more interesting.
If the opponent is in a bad game state, you can use
it to destroy one of their Pendulum Zones and leave
them unable to complete the scale next turn.
You can also use it to free up a Pendulum space for
combos, destroy a floater like Plushfire and give
yourself an extra Pendulum monster to summon from
the Extra Deck.

Hello Pojo Fans,
Merry Christmas everyone. The final card before the
holiday break is the s/t destruction card Galaxy
Cyclone.
While not as quick as MST, Galaxy Cyclone can
destroy a set s/t, then on your next turn take out a
face-up s/t. Forcing activation of the set s/t or
merely destroying it is good. To be able to banish
Galaxy Cyclone to destroy another s/t is a plus over
MST. Your opponents Pendulum Zone is the likely
target of this banishing, though there are face-up
cards like Kozmotown that need to be dealt with.
It may be slow, but it is a great destruction option
either in the main or extra deck. MST is still
better though. The restriction to which position of
card to target hurts this card.

We've reached the top 5! When previously reviewed
it received a surprisingly low score of 2.8/5. I
don't think it will score so low this time. Galaxy
Cyclone is in a category that used to be called
'staples.' Is it absolutely necessary in every deck?
No. However, every aggressive (not stall, burn,
alternate win condition, etc) deck will at least
consider this, in multiples, from now until forever.
Will it replace Mystical Space Typhoon? No. Does it
really do anything for the Galaxy Theme? Sorta, it
is searchable with Galaxy Wizard. Just watch, if
they ever limit MST again, the price of this card
will shoot to the edge of the galaxy.

I debated with myself whether or not to put this
on my List. I didn't, only because I had other
personal favorites, but I can see why it scored such
a high mark on this end of year list. Galaxy Cyclone
is, to put it bluntly, a double-MST. It can only
target a face-down Trap or Spell, but if your
opponent can't triger in response, then that should
be enough to wipe out his/her defense. Its second
effect is even better; removing this from play lets
you kill a face-up Spell/Trap, which means if your
opponent is playing with Continuous Traps or Spells
(Royal Decree, Level Limit Area B, and Swords of
Revealing Light effectively just to name a few),
then you've killed half of his strategy.
And also, it kills something else.... hm.... what
was it? It was on the tip of my tongue.... something
about Pentiums.... Platinum? …...Wait, now I
remember: PENDULUMS! IT KILLS PENDULUMS!
Now I forget why I didn't put this on my list. Huh.

versatility alone, but that would be cheating)
