Uni-Zombie
While this will not break Zombies by any means, I
certainly see this as a step in the right direction
since it has the potential to remove the need for
Zombies to use selective mill cards such as
Mathematician or Foolish Burial as well as even
remove the need (in some instances) for more random
milling cards such as Kuribandit or Ryko, Lightsworn
Hunter.
This is most primarily though because Uni-Zombie is
well… A Zombie! Rather than when using other monster
cards, this means that it can be Summoned from the
Graveyard with Zombie support cards such as Book of
Life or Zombie Master and it can also be recovered
with Recurring Nightmare.
Because of Uni-Zombie’s effect, it allows you to
more easily make higher Level Synchro’s, rather than
by using Plaguespreader Zombie, as well as being
able to be used in a Rank 4 Zombie Deck… The one
that uses Blue-Blooded Oni… Or in a Deck like
Vampires that Summons Rank 5’s. But even being able
to fill the Graveyard with useful Zombie’s more
easily is more than reason enough to use this card.
The downside to the 2 different effects of
Uni-Zombie is that in the first instance, you must
discard a card to increase a monsters Level, and as
Zombies generally use Zombie Master already, finding
discards may be just a little harder to do, but
since the card discarded can be any type of card,
using the effect is more easy to fulfil. Using
Recurring Nightmare in a Zombie Deck does become a
little more practical now though…
As for the second effect, which allows you to
selectively send a card from your Deck to your
Graveyard so that you can increase the Level of 1
card on the Field, which while at face value it may
seem to be a total inconvenience because of the “Oh
no! I cannot attack unless I use a Zombie-type
monster(s),” the fact is, Main Phase 2 exists for a
reason!
In addition a more “secret” (it isn’t really
“secret”) effect of Uni-Zombie is that you can use
it to increase the Level of one of your opponent’s
monsters… Potentially preventing them from Synchro
or Xyz Summoning during their next turn. And while
this would certainly be a move of desperation or
clever creativity, at least it is always an obscure
option that may present itself once in a blue moon.
More likely though would be using increasing an
opponent’s monsters Level so that you can send a
card from your Deck to your Graveyard without
changing the Levels of your own monsters…
Doing so could be most applicable if you were going
to Synchro Summon into Black Rose Dragon “Bomb” the
field, Summon some Zombies, attack and then Synchro
or Xyz into whatever is most useful to help you
survive through your opponent’s turn.
While Uni-Zombie is only ever going to find a place
in Zombie-type Decks, Zombie Decks such as Skull
Servants, Vampires or even Chaos Zombies will be
able to make good use of Uni-Zombie.
And for those of you who like to make more obscure
type Decks, look no further than using this to boost
your Burning Skull Head Deck.
RATING: 3.75. The 2 most important elements to
Uni-Zombie is that it’s able to replace or be used
as well as Mathematician and that it’s a Tuner. It
can also be used in place of Plaguespreader Zombie,
meaning that it doesn’t take up Deck space if you
were already using Plaguespreader Zombie.
Surprisingly, it is only a Common, so being able to
get a playset will be very easy Zombie fans.
