At face value, it may seem like El Shaddoll Fusion is inferior to Shaddoll Fusion due to the latter’s ability to fuse from Deck. But an experienced player will know that ESF is actually the much stronger of the two due to the sheer versatility it has from being a Quick-Play Spell.

El Shaddoll Fusion allowed Shaddoll Decks to tack on damage during the Battle Phase, dodge effects that would harm a Shaddoll monster by simply fusing with it, and lock down your opponent during their turn by summoning Winda in the middle of a Chain, among other things. The sheer amount of options the card gave was really quite ridiculous.

Now Limited to 1, Shaddoll can no longer rely on this card to go for hyper-aggressive pushes. This change to the list significantly slows Shaddoll down, but it doesn’t really kill them.

Banning Construct, though? Yeah, that really killed them.

It got Limited, which is a bizarre choice.  It's not much consequence compared to the draconian ban of El Shaddoll Construct (They couldn't just put it to 1?).  It's still an easily searched and easily recovered card in the Shaddoll deck, however, the ban of Construct weakens the deck (to where it probably won't top again), so you're not going to see as much of El Shaddoll Fusion in the meta as you once did.

Regardless, it's very helpful to the deck.  Since it's a quick play you can activate it during the opponent's turn (to react to what they do) or during your Battle Phase (to get another attack).  And if you do it in response to removal, it helps offset the cost of summoning the Fusion.

Another Restricted card, El Shaddoll Fusion, is our card today.  Everyone should be very familiar with this gem of a Quickplay Magic card.  Pretty short here, it gives you access to any Shaddoll Fusion and you're allowed to use Monsters from your Hand OR the Field.  You can't ask for much more than that.  No cost, no negative effect here, and being able to spring this during your opponent's turn is beautiful, in a word.

Hello Pojo Fans,

Shaddolls got hammered in the latest ban list to say the least. Mathematician down to 1, Construct banned, and the worst, El Shaddoll Fusion to 1.

Quick-play ability to Fusion Summon any of your awesome Shaddoll Fusion monsters was a way of being aggressive on your opponents turn without losing ground. You could set off your Shaddoll monster effects, summon a bigger monster, potentially halting their big plays and forcing them to call back their attacks. Not only that, during your own turn you could use this during the Battle Phase as a way to get in another attack and more damage or clear out any remaining monsters, while at the same time gaining advantage through the Shaddolls sent to your grave.

The card worked on either players turn, was a game-changing card, and needed to be dealt with. It's a shame too, this really derails any momentum Shaddolls could have made after the recent ban list.

"Mean and Evil

With the advent of Dimension of Chaos, it is at last time to say goodbye to any old challengers: yesterday we talked about the impact of the limit of Ritual Beast Ulti-Cannahawk on the 'Ritual Beast' deck - Spiritual Beast Rampengu becomes a tad less useful in short - and possibly of whether the limit was warranted. Seeing how the "Unfairnutty" deck was brutally murdered after winning worlds last year, a similar fate was perhaps to be expected for version 2.0: 'Ritual Beast' was far from liked by a majority of players, and many hope to see this deck go for good as a result of the latest hit.

The timing of Ritual Beast Ulti-Cannahawk's limit is however suspicious to say the least, and, no matter how glad I would be to find that Konami of America takes notice of the wishes of their fanbase, I can't say this hit makes it seem like they did: very few of the additions to the forbidden/limited card list were necessary if you ask me - yes, 'Nekroz', 'Qli-', 'Shaddoll' decks have been around for a long time, and hits to these decks would have been in order only a few months ago, would have let variety flourish, but it is only when a greater evil is released, decks that were going to wipe the floor with the rulers of old anyway, that it was decided to permanently end their reign: 'Kozmo' and 'Majespecter' will fill the void 'Nekroz' etc. left behind and start suppressing any other decks for yet another format before one can even say "the banlist is just another way for Konami to regulate profit".

Now for today's review bestowed upon me is the task to declare 'Shaddoll' dead, but let me make clear that this has nothing to do with the limit of El Shaddoll Fusion (want me to talk about El Shaddoll Fusion's limit? A minor consistency hit, that's all - thanks for reading), or even the ban on El Shaddoll Construct. 'Shaddoll' were like the 'Mermail' deck not too long ago, able to dodge a large number of hits by inventing themselves over and over again: throughout the last few formats we've seen several 'Shaddoll' variants surface, and even in OCG-territories, where El Shaddoll Construct (as well as some other members) has been gone for a while, 'Shaddoll' kept up decently well before the era of "Performage and Pals" - the deck has indeed a remarkable adaptability.

But what happens now is different: just like 'Mermail' before, 'Shaddoll' is starting to face opponents that do everything the deck can do, but better, faster, and more consistently. The 'Shaddoll' monsters are marvelously designed, and El Shaddoll Shekhinaga and El Shaddoll Winda especially remain higly impactful, so I can see 'Shaddoll' make an appearance again somewhere, someday; this will, as always, largely depend on whether a secondary theme will appear that gives the 'Shaddoll' part of the deck the options, the pressure, the power, that it needs at the time.

Advanced: 5/5. Surely El Shaddoll Fusion could have been better - it could have fused using opponent's monsters, or monster from the (extra) deck, but honestly a spell speed two fusion spell is fantastic already.

Goodbye Shaddolls. This is not restriction that limits Shaddoll players. That card is El Shaddoll Construct. Without Construct, El Fusion could have been semi-limited, and the deck would still be underplayed. With Construct banned, and this Quickplay going to 1, there is just no consistent way to push for game. El Shaddoll Fusion defined what Shaddoll players could do and when they could do it. 3 Constructs and 3 El Fusions was the way to dodge effects. But the might Banhammer says only Kozmo, and the will of the Banhammer is more powerful than even Solemn Judgement.

Score: 4/5 This only loses points for having a once per turn activation restriction.

Shaddolls seem like fun to play, and since their signature monsters are Fusion, it's good to see that they have their own type of Polymerization. The best part of this, besides being able to Fuse cards in your hand as well as on the field, is that you could also fuse from the Deck if your opponent has a special summoned monster. That's cutting a lot of corners, since Shaddolls aren't very specific on which monsters to fuse (it's always one “Shaddoll” and one specific element, no full names required).

A must have for its theme, of course. And since Shaddoll Fusions bring back a Spell or Trap “Shaddoll” card when they're destroyed, this card should be seeing a lot of action even with the limited use.

Final Score: 5/5 (Shaddoll only)
