Now this is the card that Generation Shift should
have been. It's a searcher for speed, but can
also be a recovery card since it adds from the
graveyard as well. It can work for practically
any deck or archetype, which uses monsters with the
same level/type/attribute ; Very versatile, making
it good for past and future archetypes alike.
With the heavy hits that it took on the ban list,
this is somewhat of a buff for Burning Abyss.
By tributing your monster as the opponent is about
to use removal on it, this card becomes advantage
neutral. All in all, one of the better cards
in the set.

Painful Escape...normal Trap...I feel like if we
hadn't had Trade In, we wouldn't have this card.
Yes, they are two very different cards, but this
card is sort of a more vague version of Trade In.
You Tribute a Monster, and then you take one from
your Deck or Graveyard, of the same Type, Attribute,
Level, but with a different name, and add it to your
Hand. Honestly, I see little to no use for
this card. It's a -1, as you give up a Monster
and the Trap itself, and the payoff for it just
isn't worth losing a card for. I can't see
many situations where you're going to need the
Monster you're taking so badly that you give up two
cards to get it. I just can't quite get on
board here.

Hello Pojo Fans,
Painful Escape is a card made for archetypes. A -1
unless the tributed monster can break even for you
with an effect, your search is so narrow you can't
run this card unless you run several targets that
match up with the requirements. Being a Trap, this
card is slower than if it were a Spell, dropping its
playability. While useful as a search in an
archetype like Burning Abyss, Shaddoll, etc.,
archetypes are usually fast enough with searching
out specific monsters. The added benefit of being
able to pull the target from the graveyard is a
plus, but that won't outweigh the restrictiveness of
the card and its slow speed.

Painful Escape has a great name. It is a Normal
Trap that costs the tribute of 1 monster with a
Level (no Rank monsters) to search from the Deck to
the Hand another monster with a different name but
the same Level, Attribute, and Type. I read this and
instantly thought about Hieratic decks that benefit
from being tributed and run a lot of monsters with
the same Level, Attribute, and Type. There are other
cards that benefit from being tributed by an effect
that would not work with this card because it
tributes monsters as Cost. Performages benefit from
being in the Graveyard and Burning Abyss would gain
all of their effects. Then this card would give you
a free search. It is also chainable. There are
definitely a lot of pros on this card, but one of
the biggest negatives is that it only works if you
have a monster on the field.
Score: 3.5/5 This is a great searcher, especially
with ROTA at 1.

This
seems like a fun card to have for deck themes. A lot
of themes like Aquadiva, Atlantean, Ojama (see the
card art) and Melodious just to name a few have an
abundance of same-level/Attribute monsters. The
question is: are you willing to sacrifice one
monster for another? Well, if that second monster is
a game-changer, then by all means!
Draw
power is essential in this game, and if you're
lacking it then maybe this card can come in handy.
Just remember, you're not going to get that monster
on the field right away, as it goes to your hand. So
use this with caution.
Final Score: 3 / 5 (Good for deck searching, not so
good for field advantage)
