Black Rose
Dragon just got a sister!
This card
certainly has the ability to hurt some Decks far
more than others, and for me, my first thought when
looking at this monster is “Shaddoll hate,” and if
your opponent is playing Shaddoll’s, they will also
hate you!
Initially,
you can Summon Black Rose Moonlight Dragon
reactively in order to remove a Special Summoned
monster from the field, and then if your opponent is
playing a Deck where the Special Summon of Level 5
or higher monsters is common, you can sit on it
proactively and force your opponent to find another,
mostly less optimal way to get rid of this.
Be mindful
though that you only benefit from the additional
effect if your opponent is going to be Special
Summoning Level 5 or higher monsters, and its effect
is only “Once per turn,” so your opponent can find a
way to work around this if indeed they would be
forced to Special Summon a Level 5 or higher monster
twice.
This first
effect of Black Rose Moonlight Dragon I see as by
far the most useful of its effects since the second
effect, described below, points out far more
weaknesses with that effect that it does provide
positives overall.
So while you
will be able to return monsters from the field to
the hand, I suspect that this will be far better
against Extra Deck monsters than it will be against
monsters that can be Special Summoned from the hand,
although it could in the right instance be
disruptive against Nekroz, but to do so you’ll have
to probably already be winning.
And against
Infernoids, this may almost be next to useless
unless your opponent has a very small Graveyard!
Equally useless would this be against Black Luster
Soldier – Envoy of the Beginning or Judgment Dragon
as the first time that turn they are Special
Summoned they go straight back to the hand and could
then be Special Summoned again without issue.
That’s not
to say that this card isn’t all that great, its just
that it will struggle to be useful against many
Decks overall.
Its on
Special Summon effect is still highly useful though
as it does return an opponent’s monster to the hand,
or Extra Deck if you choose an Extra Deck monster,
essentially making this card a Compulsory Evacuation
Device on “Legs.”
It could
also be used quite cleverly, if you manage to keep
it on the field, especially if you were using
something like Lava Golem, you could Tribute your
opponents monsters away and then you return it to
your hand immediately.
And for
those Decks whom can play Debris Dragon, this is one
more nice option that can be created with the Normal
Summon or Debris Dragon… Which will provide many
with just a little more reason to hope that Debris
Dragon doesn’t stay Limited forever!
Rating: 3.5.
The biggest issue for this card outside of its first
effect, which can actually be rather useful is that
its second effect is only useful against a smaller
number of Decks, and only actually negatively
effects a smaller number of those again, making it
situational for this part of the cards effect.
Useful effect, but outside of the first effect, not
applicable most of the time.
