Hot Red Dragon
Archfiend
Red Song by Frogstreet Press
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sMfkODJw30M
(I can spell red! Fire trucks are red.
Stop signs are red!! Yeah that was fun!!)
I like that you can activate this card's effect
during your Main Phase, making it faster. You
can switch your other monsters to Defense Position
and hold off on summoning for a little while in
order to prevent the effect of it destroying your
own monster. The attack restriction prevents
other monsters from attacking so you can't OTK with
this card, but still being able to attack with a
3000-ATK beater after using a removal effect is
quite good. Synchro's aren't really in now,
but for decks that can make it, it's certainly a
step up from the original Red Dragon Archfiend.

Hot Red Dragon Archfiend, one
variant of the original we will cover this week, has
the same core stats as the original. Same
attack and defense, still a Dragon, and same Synchro
Summoning requirements. But instead of being
able to destroy defense position Monsters, this
Archfiend lets you destroy all attack position
Monsters on the Field once a turn, during your Main
Phase 1. Not just your opponent's...but ALL
attack position Monsters on the Field. And it
doesn't do you much good to Normal or Special Summon
something else to attack with after that effect, if
used, as this is the only card you're able to attack
with that turn. I honestly feel even though
the destruction effect here is better than the
original, I like the original better overall.
Still might be fun and win you a game though.

Hello Pojo Fans,
It's Red Dragon Archfiend week at Pojo, and today
Hot Red Dragon Archfiend gets the spotlight. Same
everything as the original, however the effect is
better (depending on your situation). Wipe the field
clean of all attack position monsters is more useful
than all defense position monsters due to the fact
that you likely won't be facing a deck with several
monsters in defense at the same time. Can only
attack with HRDA, but with a likely clear path to
your opponents life points, attacking with a 3000ATK
boss monster shouldn't be a problem. While other
monsters could attack when it was Red Dragon
Archfiend attacking, that dragon was wiping out all
defense position monsters, then destroyed any
monsters you had that didn't attack, a potential
downside. Gorz is a threat as the destruction effect
is selective to Main Phase 1. In addition, if you
use the destruction effect your opponent has the
chance to counter and perhaps destroy HRDA. The
destruction effect can work for you if you gain
advantage from monsters being destroyed, but why
give up field advantage?
A solid, strong Level 8 Synchro worth trying out if
your deck uses Synchro monsters.

Hot Red Dragon Archfiend (HRDA
come'on it's almost Hot RoD. That name is so great.)
has the exact same stats as regular Red Dragon
Archfiend. Exactly the same. The Hot part of the
name does limit the old support that RDA got, but
the raw stats are still great, and the new support
for generic Red Dragon Archfiend monsters is good.
The effect is different, but
not necessarily better. Instead of destroying Def
position monsters during the Battle Phase, HRDA
destroys all Atk position monsters once per turn
during your Main Phase 1. The restriction here is
way better than RDA because if your monsters are in
Def, they wouldn't be destroyed and wouldn't be
attacking anyway. I wouldn't invest in Summoning
this and making your opponent's monster to Atk
position, just summon RDA. Similarly, don't force
your opponent's monsters to Def just to use RDA. I
can't wait to make an RDA deck.
Score: 4/5 It's still Extra
Deck. If you can fit/summon it, then why not?

Somebody's been in the sun for a bit too long...
Same stats as the first, but now he comes with a
built-in nuke; during your first main phase, you can
automatically kill all other ATK-position monsters,
including your opponent's. This is great, because
some monsters get their effects when killed in
battle; this neutralizes them. The only downside is
that he can (and often will) nuke your own monsters
other than himself. You're likely not going to have
other monsters on the field by the time he's
summoned anyway, unless you do the effect before
summoning a new one to add for another direct
attack.
One other drawback is that while he can nuke face-up
ATK-position monsters, the same doesn't go for
face-down DEF-position monsters. So no Raigeki for
you. Your opponent could set up a Flip effect and
pull it off despite HRDA's power, so use him with
caution.
Final Score: 4/5 (A slightly improved version of the
original) |
