Performage Trapeze Magician
- #CORE-EN053 2 Level 4 Spellcaster-Type monsters
You never take damage if the amount is less than or equal to this card's ATK. Once per turn, during either player's Main Phase 1: You can detach 1 Xyz Material from this card, then target 1 face-up Attack Position monster the turn player controls (other than this card); it can make a second attack during each Battle Phase this turn, also destroy it at the end of the Battle Phase. If this card is destroyed by battle and sent to the Graveyard, or if this card in your possession is destroyed by an opponent's card effect and sent to your Graveyard: You can Special Summon 1 "Performage" monster from your Deck.

Now that Performages have merged with Shaddolls,
this card is a nice addition to the Extra Deck.
It has strong ATK for a LV4 XYZ. It replaces
itself with a Performage monster, which isn't much
but helps pay for itself. It also prevents
basically most battle damage and card effect damage
you'd realistically expect to take (although burn
isn't common and you shouldn't worry much about
battle damage with a 2500 ATK beater on the field).
The attack effect is interesting, and the main
reason you'd want to use this card.. You could
use it to power up your own monster to OTK, or you
can use it to destroy an opponent's monster.
The latter is more risky and very very situational
but the former can help you push during late game.

Midweek brings us to another Performage Monster,
in this case, the Trapeze Magician. This guy
is fun, and annoying, and useful outside of the
Archtype, although fairly specific in being XYZ
Summoned by two Level 4 Spellcasters. Light
and Spellcaster is good, as is 2500 attack on a Rank
4. So first off, you don't take Damage, any
Damage, ever, if the Damage in question is less than
or equal to this cards attack. Not even
original attack, but current attack. How cool
is that? Although, and rightfully so there is
no anti-destruction effect or protection here, but
that's still a unique ability in itself. Next,
during either players' turn, you can detach an XYZ
Material to select a Monster of the turn player,
which can make a second attack this turn. Not
this card however, and while you're sitting there
wondering why you'd choose an opponent's Monster for
this...said Monster is destroyed during the end of
said Battle Phase. If destroyed and sent to
the Graveyard via Battle, OR destroyed by an
opponent's card effect, and again, sent to the
Graveyard, you can Special Summon a Performage
Monster from your Deck. He's great support for
a theme, and again, I wouldn't fault any dedicated
Spellcaster build for running one either.

Hello Pojo Fans,
While it may have its restrictions, Performage
Trapeze Magician is a good Xyz monster. Exclusive to
only Spellcaster-Type monsters, it has great ATK for
a Rank 4. LIGHT support is there, as well as
Spellcaster support. With 2500ATK and its first
effect, Trapeze becomes a Spirit Barrier with some
serious attack power behind it. Protection against
any damage less than or equal to Trapeze's ATK
allows you to leave monsters in attack mode without
having to worry about a big play taking them down
and seriously damaging your life points.
The second ability to allow for a double attack to
any monster other than itself in exchange for an Xyz
material is good, and that monster's destruction at
the end of the Battle Phase can be supplemented by
using this ability on monsters that benefit being
destroyed by effects or being in the graveyard
(Shaddoll). For the archetype this belongs to, when
this card eventually gets destroyed you do break
even with a “Performage” Special Summon from the
deck, which will prevent any shenanigans your
opponent may pull in regards to your graveyard.
If you run an abundance of Spellcaster-Type
monsters, this card may be a thought to use in the
Extra Deck.

This card reminds me of why I
hate Nekroz. Everytime I have this and El Shaddoll
Construct to attack for game, the opponent uses
Nekroz of Valkyrus. Anyway, I'm getting ahead of
myself. Performage Trapeze Magician is an XYZ
monster with great stats. This is a Rank 4 Light
Spellcaster-type monster with 2500 Atk and 2000 Def.
You need two Level 4 Spellcasters to make this
monster, but the restriction hardly matters because
the Performages Special Summon themselves very
easily.
Trapeze Magician has 3 effects
and they are all good. The first is a damage
mitigation effect. You take no damage equal to or
less than its attack. Essentially, you never take
2500 damage or less during any turn, during any
phase, so long as this is face up. One of the easy
combos is to detach Performage Trick Clown for the
second effect, use Trick Clown's effect to bring
something back, and NOT take 1000 damage because
Trapeze Magician is still on the field. The second
effect is for big damage pushes. Once per turn,
during either player's Main Phase 1, you can detach
a material and target some other face up monster
that the turn player controls to attack twice. Then,
it's destroyed at the end of the Battle Phase. I
have once successfully hit with Black Luster Soldier
three times in one Battle Phase because of this
monster. It was fun. It would also be possible to
target an opponent's monster so that it hits twice
and dies during their turn.
The final effect is where this
card rounds out it's usefulness. If it hits the
Graveyard by battle or if it's destroyed by an
opponent's card effect while in your possession, you
can Special Summon any Performage from the Deck.
That will get better as more Performages are
released, but even right now, getting Damage Juggler
to the field and then searching from that effect in
the graveyard is good. All these effects from one
XYZ monster, with good stats. It's balanced and
strong. It mixes defense and offense. It even has
on-field and Graveyard effects. What's not to like?
Score: 4.5/5 It's in the Extra
Deck, so run 1 and see if you have the Spellcasters
to summon it.
Art: 4/5 It's on some light
trapeze, so that makes sense.

“You
never take damage if the amount is less than or
equal to this card's ATK” …....Does that include
direct attackers like Inabi White Rabbit? Probably
not, but damn what a good effect if it did!
So
basically, this is how Trapeze Magician works: You
can pick a monster from either side of the field
(except this one), and let it attack twice, then
it's destroyed at the end of the Battle Phase. What
you want to do is wait till your opponent's turn,
then detach an XYZ material to activate Trapeze's
effect, then force your opponent to attack this guy
twice, and even if it's a 2500ATK monster, Trapeze
Magician won't be the one going bye-bye. Instead,
you're setting your opponent up for monster suicide.
Also,
if Trapeze Magician is killed either by battle or
opposing card effect, you can special summon another
Performage monster straight from the deck.... Heh,
clever. It's like in real life, when the trapeze man
fell to his death, they sent in the clowns to
dsitract the audience. …...That's..... morbidly
clever.
Final Score: 5/5 (Performage Deck)
