Happy post Labor Day
everyone! In lieu of the day of yesterday, we
have a two-fer-Tuesday for you. First up is
Heroic Challenger-Thousand Blades. At a
glance, and even perhaps on a second one, this card
seems rather unremarkable. Earth, Warrior,
Level 4, and only 1300 attack with an equally
appauling 1100 defense. But he does some cool
stuff. Once a turn, if in attack position, you
can discard a Heroic card. This prevents you
from Special Summoning outside of the theme for the
rest of the turn, but also gives you a Special
summoned Heroic Monster from your Deck. Which,
in turn, changes this card to defense position.
Obviously I'm sure you're pulling a Level 4 for an
XYZ here. If you take Damage while this card
resides in your Graveyard, you can Special Summon it
back to the Field in attack position. Said
effect can only be used once per turn. It's
better than it first looks, and it's actually
reasonably solid support for a theme.

Heroic Challengers have never been a great deck.
Doubt they will be. It's probably a good card
for them because it essentially a searcher that
gives you another LV4 to XYZ with. The revive
from graveyard effect requires it to be in the
graveyard first, requires you to take damage (which
you don't want to be doing often) and summons it in
Attack Position so you're risking taking even more
damage. I don't see it as splashable but it
does give the theme some more XYZ fodder.

Hello Pojo Fans,
HC Thousand Blades is the Summoner Monk for the
archetype. Very searchable by several means (Giant
Rat, RoTA, another copy of Thousand Blades,
M-X-Saber Invoker, etc). 1-for-1 once per turn if in
attack position is an even trade to set up an Xyz
Summon of a Heroric monster. The restriction of only
Heroric monsters prevents any abuse of mass Special
Summoning (the addition of Summoner Monk with this
monster gives you the potential of 3 Level 4
monsters).
A free Special Summon of this monster when you take
damage of any kind (even by your own cards) can set
up the repeating process of when this monster is in
attack position. Once per turn for either of these
effects is balanced, but the fact that HC Thousand
Blades isn't banished after using its Special Summon
effect benefits the player tremendously. Special
Summon HC Thousand Blades after taking the final
damage for the turn, draw, then ditch a “Heroric”
card to Special Summon another “Heroric” monster
(any level, another plus for flexibility). With
enough cards you could run through the Thousand
Blades in your deck in one turn and set up 2 Xyz
Summons.
A solid card for the archetype.

Review for 9/8/2015
Once again, I believe the
effects on this monster are switched. Heroic
Challenger - Thousand Blades is a Level 4 Earth
Warrior-Type monster with 1300 Atk and 1100 Def.
This is definitely weak on all fronts. However, part
of the reason we are reviewing this card is it's
utility as a Level 4 monster. Rank 4 monsters open
up while this is card is in the Graveyard.
The first effect is only usable
in an Heroic Challenger. Once per turn, while this
monster is in Atk position, you can discard an
"Heroic" card to Special Summon an "Heroic" monster
from your deck in Def position. However, you can
only Special Summon "Heroic" monsters for the rest
of the turn. The second effect is where this card
shines. While this card is in your Graveyard, you
can Special Summon it in Atk position after you take
damage from anything once per turn. The combo to
consider is with Performage Trick Clown. Trick Clown
can Special Summon any Performage monster from the
Graveyard when it is sent there from anywhere. Then,
you take 1000 damage which would trigger Thousand
Blades. All of a sudden, you have two Level 4
monsters on the field during either players turn.
This is part of the reason why Lavaval Chain was
banned. Satellarknights and other Level 4 Warrior
decks might love this card for it's combo with Ring
of Destruction or other self damage effects.
Score: 3.5/5 This is easy to
run at 1 for defense in any deck.
Art: 3.5/5 I didn't count, but
that looks like a thousand blades.

I would really hate to have to be the person behind
this guy in a line at the DMV.
Joking aside, we have a great support monster for
the Heroic Challenger theme. While his ATK and DEF
are weak, he's able to give you a chance to grab and
summon a bigger and better “Heroic” monster from the
deck. You'll have to discard a “Heroic” card to do
it, but if there are any Spell.Trap cards with
“Heroic” in its name, then you might not have to
sacrifice a monster.
Also, if you're under attack while Porcupine here is
in the Grave, you can special summon him in ATK mode
and possibly save yourself from a game over.
Overall, not a bad card. Weak, yes, but useful.
Melikes.
Final Score: 4/5 (Heroic deck)
