The True Name
- #MIL1-EN016Declare 1 card name; excavate the top card of your Deck, and if it is the declared card, add it to your hand, then you can add to your hand, or Special Summon, 1 DIVINE monster from your Deck. Otherwise, send it to the Graveyard. You can only activate 1 "The True Name" per turn.

The True Name
When this was first released in Japan, I was
excited, because The True Name is a very unique card
with limitless future possibilities. I’ve seen it
tested in decks ranging from Sylvan, Dark Magician,
and Zombies to God Card decks themselves. Any deck
that makes prominent use of placing cards back on
the top of the deck should look at this spell.
At the moment, there’s nothing that consistently
does this, however, so The True Name isn’t finding
room in many decks outside of Sylvan, but there are
not only future possibilities, but current ones as
well. Cards that are a small amount of better
support away from making really good use of it.
Cards that jump out at me are Field-Commander Rahz,
Deep Diver, Gishki Avance (remember Zielgigas and
the God Cards are all level 10!), and Oracle of
Zefra, which is seeing a lot of play right now. And
while this is just a handful of possibilities
available right now, there are some cards that you
just read and know it can be great one day.
The True Name can be read like this in the right
circumstances: “Draw a card and summon a God Card
from your deck.” That’s broken. All it takes is the
right support.

Hello Pojo Fans,
The True Name is the card those wanting to play a
pure Egyptian God deck have wanted: a direct
searcher for one of the Egyptian Gods.
There are several ways to manipulate your deck so
you are able to know what your next card is. Classic
monsters like A Cat of Ill Omen and Big Eye can do
this, as well as newer cards from the Sylvan
archetype. Use one of them and make sure you
remember the name correctly. Play this card, declare
that name, excavate that card. You called it right
so you get that card to your hand and then Special
Summon a DIVINE of your choice from your deck. You
do have the option of not call the card correctly
and instead merely excavate the given card to the
graveyard.
Those who wish to Special Summon Obelisk and Slifer
using this card need two cards along with this card:
Foolish Burial and Plaguespreader Zombie. Foolish
Plague, stack on top any card from your hand, play
The True Name and call the card stacked on top. The
card allows you to Special Summon two of the few
choices for a DIVINE monster in the TCG right now,
however not all of them. Winged Dragon of Ra and its
other forms are left on the outside looking in. The
card is good, and easily combo'd to get you either
of the previously stated Egyptian Gods, but had it
included the text “ignoring the Summoning
restrictions” it would have been a much better card.
Still gets you what you want with relative ease, but
they will still be sent to the graveyard at the end
of the turn.

Here we have the beginnings of what can make any
deck viable, that being searchability. Divine
monsters usually are not searchable, but The True
Name can search them or Special Summon them. It is a
Normal Spell Card that, if you can predict the top
card of your Deck, lets you add that top card to
your hand. Then you can search or Special Summon a
Divine monster, but if you don't predict correctly,
you send the card to the Graveyard. There are many
cards that place themselves on top of the deck or
rearrange the deck so you know what's coming. Then
you get that free draw and an optional Divine
monster. You can only activate The True Name once
per turn, but it can potentially add 2 cards to your
hand for free, or 1 card and one huge Special
Summon. If you run a deck that let's you
consistently know what's coming next, run 3 of these
as your replacement for Upstart Goblin.
Score: 4/5 Huge Potential.
Art: 3/5 Nice reference, I just don't know to what.
