Beatrice, Lady of the Eternal
- #PGL3-EN0212 Level 6 monsters / You can also Xyz Summon this card by sending 1 "Burning Abyss" monster from your hand to the Graveyard, then using 1 "Dante" monster you control as the Xyz Material. (Xyz Materials attached to that monster also become Xyz Materials on this card.) If Summoned this way, the following effect cannot be activated this turn. Once per turn, during either player's turn: You can detach 1 Xyz Material from this card; send 1 card from your Deck to the Graveyard. If this card in your possession is destroyed by your opponent's card (by battle or card effect) and sent to your Graveyard: You can Special Summon 1 "Burning Abyss" monster from your Extra Deck, ignoring its Summoning conditions.

Beatrice, Lady of the Eternal is a Rank 6 Light
Fairy-type XYZ monster with 2500 Atk and 2800 Def.
The name is actually bad because Lady of the Eternal
does not include Burning Abyss so all the
Malebranches will die if they are on the field
together. Well, at least the defense is good. Part
of the balance of Burning Abyss is their lack of
high Atk monsters. 2500 Atk is the same as Dante and
Vergil, but this has a higher summoning cost of 2
Level 6 monsters. Fortunately, Rank 5 and Rank 6
effects make up for the lack of brute strength on
their monsters.
The alternate summoning method for Beatrice is to
send a Burning Abyss monster from your hand to your
graveyard while a "Dante" monster is on the field.
You would get all of Dante's materials and the
effect of whatever Burning Abyss monster you sent to
the Graveyard. I like it. At the very least, this is
a better option than Downerd Magician to sit on top
of spent Dantes. I also like that this is an
official XYZ Summon for recursion effects in other
decks.
The on field effect of Beatrice cannot be used if
summoned the alternate way, but that's not the end
of the world. For the cost of an XYZ Material, you
can send any card from the Deck to the grave. That's
huge. Lavaval Chain is banned for the same effect.
And, you can activate that effect once per turn
during either player's turn. More than likely, your
materials will be getting their effects upon hitting
the grave and whatever you send will be useful as
well. I believe you can detach Dante to send Cir to
the Graveyard and use Cir's effect to get Dante back
on the field for another Beatrice. I will try to
coin the phrase of "Beatrice loops" for this
process.
Beatrice's last effect activates in the Graveyard if
she is destroyed and sent there by an opponent's
battle or card effect. If that triggers you can
Special Summon 1 Burning Abyss monster from your
Extra Deck and ignore its summoning restrictions.
Vergil is an excellent choice to get rid of
problems. Obviously another Dante on the field would
make for decent field presence. If 2 Beatrice's hit
the grave, I believe you get 2 Special Summons, so
have fun with that. So this is the only "real" way
to get Pilgrim to the field, but he's still not
worth the Extra Deck space. Still, it's good to have
options, and Beatrice, Lady of the Eternal has many
great options.
Score: 4.5/5 Very Well Balanced.
Art: 5/5 Very Nice.

Beatrice, Lady of the
Eternal
This is a super pretty card. It’s also a difficult
card to review. On the surface, it seems to be
pretty nifty and a solid startup monster, but as
with every single card in the game, just a slight
adjustment in the effect can make or break a card.
Crush Card errata anyone? And Beatrice unfortunately
has a sentence that makes me cringe.
“If summoned this way, the following effect cannot
be activated this turn.”
Bummer. And I say that with feeling, because
Beatrice has all the ability in the world to make
Burning Abyss flow. But if you’re going to drop a
card and give up Dante to summon her (because let’s
be honest, you’re certainly not going to summon her
using 2 level 6 monsters), it’s a killer to just let
her sit there like a stump during your turn. I’m
well aware that her cost probably activates a
Burning Abyss effect and that she can use her effect
when the opponent starts his next turn, but that
doesn’t make up for it. Yu-Gi-Oh is all about big
plays now. Consistent big plays every turn. 10 years
ago, you could set a Magician of Faith and a Mirror
Force and feel safe and cozy. Today, if you take a
turn that does nothing but set a couple cards,
you’ve probably already lost the duel. So Beatrice
unfortunately loses most of her potential. Even her
last effect doesn’t make up for it in my mind,
because opponents have a bevy of cards at their
disposal now that can deal with her without
destroying her. And at 2500 ATK, she’s not exactly a
world-beater.
Now, on the bright side, Beatrice does have future
potential; she is still a generic rank 6 and sending
any card from the deck to the grave can be very
nice. There’s a reason Lavalval Chain got the ban
hammer and will probably never see the light of day
again. Should a new theme be released that takes
advantage of both level 6 monsters and the grave,
Beatrice would be a valuable addition. I definitely
see a future for her in fairy decks.
