Daily Since 2002!

Number 38: Hope Harbinger Dragon Titanic Galaxy
- #PGL3-EN0082 Level 8 monsters
Once per turn, during either player's turn, when a Spell Card or effect is activated on the field: You can negate that effect, and if you do, attach that card to this card as Xyz Material. When an opponent's monster declares an attack: You can detach 1 Xyz Material from this card; change the attack target to this card and perform damage calculation. If a face-up Xyz Monster(s) you control is destroyed by battle or card effect: You can target 1 face-up Xyz Monster you control; it gains ATK equal to 1 of those destroyed monster's original ATK.

Strong stats, quality LV8 generic XYZ (one of the
better ones overall).
1st effect which negates a spell can be great,
especially since Pendulums (and cards used to tutor
them) are Spells. Though still vulnerable to
numerous monster effects. Will depend on your
matchup but since it's an Extra Deck card, there's
no draw-probability issues.
2nd effect essentially protects other monsters from
battle. Won't be doing much damage against a
smart opponent. Ancillary effect at best.
3rd effect can be practical in the instance you have
an additional XYZ monster, which won't be very
likely but good to have in a certain situation.

Wow what a name. Ok. Number 38: Hope Harbinger
Dragon Titanic Galaxy is a Rank 8 Light Dragon-type
XYZ monster with 3000 Atk and 2500 Def. Blue-Eyes
White Dragon stats are killer. This one requires
just 2 Level 8 monsters to XYZ Summon. So that makes
it strong and generic for decks that want an easy
beefy Dragon.
Number 38: HHDTG (even the abbreviation is
difficult) has a few effects that make it slightly
different from the rest of the generic Rank 8
toolbox dragons. The first is once per turn to
negate and absorb a Spell Card as an XYZ material if
they activate that card or its effect. That effect
on its own would make this a very good anti Pendulum
option. It also makes opponent's pay the cost
associated with the spell, but not gain its effect.
I also love that this effect doesn't require
material, so if you resurrect HHDTG, this effect is
live which would make its other effects live as
well. You could even negate your own spell if you
really want the XYZ Material.
The next two effects can be activated as often as
you want in either player's turn. The only one that
requires an XYZ Material is the one that lets you
detach to switch an opponent's attack target to
HHDTG. You can divert any monster to this card and
then pump it with Honest, but the play is somewhat
obvious. The last effect is to watch as a different
XYZ monster is destroyed by battle or effect and
then gain its original attack as a bonus to your own
XYZ target, probably HHDTG. You can destroy your own
XYZ monster to pump a different one so long as HHDTG
is still on the field.
All of these effects serve a purpose, but only the
first will really see play. This card really needed
a grave effect for when Dark Matter sits on it and
detaches. As a part of the toolbox, run 1 to out
Pendulum monsters.

Number 38: Hope Harbinger
Dragon Titanic Galaxy
It’s absolutely amazing that such a long name can be
squeezed into that little space on the card. What’s
equally amazing is that I can pare down this
monster’s equally long effect to something much
simpler: “Once per either turn, negate a spell
card.”
That’s pretty much it. The other two effects of his
are unnecessary. Any effect that allows you to
change the attack target to something else is just
useless, because no competent player would attack
under those circumstances. And the third effect is
just a boosting effect that’s situational at best
and will probably never be truly useful. So let’s
focus on the effect that matters.
I’ve been able to see this card in action in OCG
Blue-Eyes decks, and it’s pretty strong, especially
against mirror decks. In fact, it’s the strongest
counter to Gospel of Revival, because you negate it
AND steal it, preventing it from hitting the
graveyard, where it’s equally strong. I don’t know
where the TCG will be at when Gospel of Revival
finally does show up, but that spell card makes me
want to run this monster in any deck. And I guess
that’s the heart of the matter.
Number 38: Hope Harbinger Dragon Titanic Galaxy
is really good at what it does and doesn’t take a
lot of resources to summon. It has a great future, a
ton of support, and a brutal effect with literally a
reverse cost, where instead of losing an xyz
material, you gain one. Are you kidding me?
Good card.
